01:08Julian is progressing really well, he's on the pitch. We are ramping up now certain actions and especially the volume

01:17And I think he's in a good trajectory, but still a few weeks to go. And Willie, as we all
01:23know, it's more a long-term injury.
01:26So, in September, it could be before the international break, maybe?
01:30I don't know. We have to wait and see. He needs to start to train with the group in the
01:34next week or so, hopefully, and then see how he progresses from there.
01:39But obviously, it's been a long-term injury right now and we want to make sure that every step that
01:43we take is the right one.
01:46He feels right to do that and it's such an important play for us.

03:01is because of the injuries to Saliba and Tim that we've spoken about, that area of the pitch.

03:18It's big that we want to improve the squad. We want to evolve the squad in order to achieve half.

04:12Well, it is because it's a trophy, it's a trophy that we can have
04:17because we earned it last year through winning the Premier League, obviously,
04:21and you can tell how hungry the players are, which is a good sign.

04:26You spoke there about the Community Shield.
04:28What it means to players back, new feeling.
04:30Is this a marker now for the campaign to come?
04:33Well, that's what we want and adapting to the circumstances
04:36and the kind of preparation that we had.
04:39But I said it the other day, I love the way the players have come back.
04:43Most of them earlier than expected, really fit with all the testing,
04:47and they all seem in great condition.
04:50And the moment that they started to look at each other and said,
04:53look at the squad that we have and what we are building,
04:56there's a lot of excitement around them.
04:58Because of the different returns and injuries you're dealing with as well,
05:02how long will it be until you reckon we will see the best version of Arsenal?
05:05The best version has to be on Sunday and that's the intention,
05:09that we have the best performance and the best way to start the season,
05:17obviously, by lifting the first trophy.
05:19That's the way we have prepared the season,
05:21is on day one be at our maximum level because that's the standards for us.
05:26And I know there's a lot of focus because they're trying to win their own players coming in,
05:29but do you have to have players to go out because of the size of the squad?
05:35Well, we have certain possibilities that we can explore
05:38if the right possibilities come across.
05:41But so far, with the numbers that we had, we have been happy,
05:45but obviously we need to accept that there are certain players that probably have to move.

05:52On Bryson and Saka, how much are they still managing the issues they had
05:56at the end of last season and over the summer?
05:59We haven't noticed anything, obviously.
06:01They have individual plans through the time that they have with the national team,
06:05obviously.
06:05They've been trying to evolve those issues and they have improved.
06:10And then in the rest period that they had,
06:12they both had a specific programme for themselves.
06:14They've been doing those.
06:16And so far, what I saw the last two or three days, it was really good.
06:20On Ethan, you said on Wednesday night you've sort of seen a difference in him
06:23this summer through pre-season.
06:24Has that changed your thinking in what your plans are for him this season?
06:29I don't know in the plans, but certainly it opens your eyes in terms of
06:33how much a young player can evolve in such a short period, you know,
06:37and what experience abroad with certain difficulties and challenges,
06:44what you can really get out of that.
06:46And I think he's done it in a brilliant way.
06:49I think it's unquestionable.
06:51The talent, the desire, the love and the passion he has for the game.
06:55It's something that I always loved about Ethan.
06:58And then I think he had some great games and he's shown everybody
07:03that he has the ability to be here.
07:06Do you want him to be at the club?
07:08I want him to be at the club, but something is, in the medium-long time,
07:12what is the best for the player as well.
07:14And Ethan needs to play football.
07:18And if he stays here, it's because we can guarantee him
07:20that he can have those minutes.
07:22Otherwise, it's just something that is not good for anybody, I think.

07:28I was going to ask about Martin Odegaard.
07:30He had a very interrupted last season with injuries
07:32and issues there as well.
07:34He seemed very sharp in pre-season.
07:36Are you expecting big things from him?
07:38I think those two cases, him and Bukayo as well.
07:41I see something else.
07:43Obviously, they had some issues last year
07:45and they couldn't have the consistency levels
07:48that they know that they can bring to the team.
07:51So, there is a big margin and a big gap there
07:54that I think the team is going to benefit from
07:56because I can see the desire in them.
07:58And on the transfer window, we know that you've mentioned before
08:01that you plan these things very far in advance, months in advance.
08:04But has it taken you by surprise how expensive some deals,
08:08particularly four players, a hundred million-plus signings,
08:11has that taken you by surprise this time?
08:12Yes, it has, yeah.
08:14I wouldn't bet on that, to be fair.
08:17But that's the market, that means that there are clubs
08:20that are happy to invest or they believe that the valuations
08:24of those players are that.
08:25And that's fair.
08:26At the end, the value of the player is what somebody can pay for you.
08:30And they've done it.
08:31So, that's the value and it's the right one
08:33because someone is happy to sell
08:35and someone is happy to buy.
08:36And in the middle, a player is happy to move
08:38from one club to the other.
08:39So, I think that's fair.
08:43There was a point last season where you talked about how quickly football evolves.
08:48You talked about the Newcastle and Barcelona Champions League game.
08:52And I was just wondering, coming into this season,
08:55have you already seen stuff that's different to last year?
08:58Or do you expect that to come?
08:59Well, last year we saw another one,
09:00the entire PSG and Bayern Munich,
09:03which was something probably that we haven't witnessed before as well.
09:06So, let's see.
09:07The World Cup brought some very different stuff.
09:10I think it's very different international football
09:12to anything related to the Premier League.
09:15But, yeah, we will wait and see.
09:17I'm sure there will be surprises
09:18and everybody will have to add up quickly to certain changes.
09:23I think the rules are going to be different as well.
09:25So, when the rules change, everything changes and the game evolves.
09:29So, we will see a change there as well for sure.
09:31And in terms of how your Arsenal team evolves after the Champions League
09:35you're talking about individual quality and the need for that.
09:39Is that something you see as a big shift or more of a tweak?
09:43Yeah, there is room there for sure.
09:45But with the players that we have with ourselves,
09:48I think elevating the quality of the players that we have with us
09:52and elevating the individual performance,
09:53it has to be the main focus.
09:55And when we cannot do that for whatever reason,
09:57then we need to think about recruiting.

10:06Last season you were reluctant to talk about it until it was confirmed.

10:10Can we just ask for your reflections on his exit?
10:16Probably I'm going to fall short on the way I can praise what he's done.
10:21First of all, for the Premier League, I think for the country,
10:24I think the way he has opened a different way of understanding the game.
10:29Here, I think he has escalated the Premier League to a different level.
10:33I think he has brought different standards to something that we haven't witnessed before.
10:38I was very lucky to be part of that for four years and understand and witness how it's done daily.
10:45I think it's remarkable.
10:46I think it's unique.
10:47For me, he's the best coach in the history of football.
10:50For many reasons.
10:51He's done in different countries, in different ways,
10:54but in a really sustainable and consistent way, which is the hardest thing to do.
10:59So, I think it will be missed in the Premier League.
11:02I don't know if coaches are going to miss him so much because it's so difficult to play against him
11:07and to compete in the manner that he does with his teams.
11:10But, yeah, I think a word of gratitude.
11:14First of all, personally, for the time that I have with him, it was incredible.
11:18And then because I think he has elevated all the coaches and teams to think and to work in different
11:24ways,
11:25and that has made all of us better.
11:28So, it's been a pleasure.
11:30And now it's Enzo, which is as good as him because I know him well
11:36and he will provide something different to the club and wish him the best.

12:08He's only for 10 years, which is I think nowadays something just incredible.
12:13I just wondered how special it was then for you to actually win the Premier League
12:17while he was still here, while he was still your friend, still your rival?
12:22Well, obviously one of the probably biggest challenges that I have faced in my career
12:26because I know the standards, I know that they have the background,
12:30they have this ability, they had the quality to go and do it again.
12:34So, it's been a real challenge.
12:36But as I said, I think I took it in a way that, okay, regardless of what happens,
12:41this is going to make us better.
12:43It's pushing boundaries time after time at every level in every department of the club
12:48to try to reach this level.
12:51When I arrived here, I had a sense in terms of distance and years
12:54how far we were behind because I was there and I could witness the daily operation
12:59there and the level and to be able to win it in the time that we've done it.

13:23Will he have more of a senior role?
13:25Well, he's 100 per cent with us, that's for sure.
13:28He's done again all the pre-season, he's in our system on every effect,
13:33and then how much he will play, like any other player, the same as well.
13:38He needs to earn it.
13:38If he earns it, he will play.
13:40If somebody earns it, he won't play that much.
13:43And with Miles Lewis-Kelley as well, what role do you see for him this season?
13:47Will it be more in midfield or will it be again at left-back?
13:51Depends.
13:51Depends what happens with the squad, depends how he trains,
13:54depends on the position, a lot of factors, nothing else.
13:58There are a lot of players that can play in various positions
14:00and this is a huge quality that we have in the squad.

14:10How difficult do you think it's going to be for him to come after Pep,

14:17What I know is that Enzo has the personality, the character
14:20and especially the knowledge to have an unbelievable job there.
14:25That's why he's been selected, because they could probably pick anybody
14:29and they've gone for Enzo for the right reasons.
14:32He has demonstrated that at every level,
14:34when he's gone to the Champions League and what he's done,
14:37when he's been at Chelsea and now here.
14:39So, I have no doubt that he will do a great job.

14:46The season is starting.

14:51In terms of conditioning, putting together the right team at the right time.
14:57I think we are in a really good place.
14:59I sense really good things and we are still adapting.

15:05and the Premier League is going to start a few days later.
15:09And I think we haven't compromised anything.
15:12I think we have taken every situation with a lot of naturality
15:18to try to get the team in the best possible condition.
