00:15So it is up now for anybody that wants to read about Josh Allen and the head coach, Joe Brady.
00:21For all these years, I've been telling people the last game I was in, a football game I was in
00:27the stadium, would have been the first game.
00:29I thought it was 1980, but I know it was against the Colts, so it wasn't 1980.
00:36And for years, I've been saying that was the last time I was in the stadium for a football.
00:41I've been in for a couple of concerts, but not actually a football game.
00:45So you just woke me up to the fact that all these years I've been lying.
00:48I've got to figure out when that Colts game was.
00:51Don't be too hard on yourself. Let's not call it lying.
00:53You can just, you know, maybe you were mistaken.
00:55I didn't remember correctly. I do remember very distinctly the people, the guy behind me was so drunk, he got
01:01sick and was passed out and didn't see one play of the game.
01:04Well, now I know you're lying. Now, because that would not be possible. That's never happened.

01:10All right. Well, whatever game it was.
01:13Yeah, a long time ago.
01:15Forced segue. Whatever game it was, the starters played.
01:18And now if you were to go to this game on Saturday in the new place, one o'clock against
01:23Carolina, the starters are going to play as well.
01:25Are you surprised?
01:27Not particularly.
01:29Like Josh Allen talked about one of the reasons.
01:32Well, he wants to play no matter what.
01:33You know Josh Allen.
01:35But he says, you know, just different things.
01:37He's got to figure out where the play clocks are.
01:38Get used to them.
01:40You know, all right, the play clocks are over here.
01:41The lighting is over here.
01:44Just different things that could be going on in the stadium.
01:48The turf, he mentioned.
01:52So, the environment is kind of what he was talking about.
01:57So, we all know he doesn't have to play at all in the preseason.
02:02He'll be fine.
02:03He always wants to play, and he reiterated that today.
02:07But there were reasons why.
02:10And Brady said, he talked before practice.
02:13So, he said, if you didn't get injured in practice today and you're healthy, you're playing on Saturday.
02:17That includes Josh Allen and everybody else.
02:19He'd say, for how long?
02:21I mean, that might mean one series if you're Josh Allen.
02:25I don't know.
02:26He doesn't know.
02:27I mean, Allen said he doesn't know if he's playing one series.
02:29How many games, you know, he goes, that's up to Brady.
02:33But he would like to get in there and at least get on the field and just figure out some
02:39of the things that he needs to figure out before that Thursday rolls around for the first home game.
02:43So, Paul, did Brady even say this?
02:45Is the fact that they're in a new stadium the point?
02:48Is it the reason here, or is it maybe not?
02:51He didn't say it's the reason.
02:55Like, one of the things is he wants to get the guys out there, you know, tackling, just doing things
03:00that you can't really do in camp.
03:03And that, you know, and that leads me to believe, you know, we may not see starters for a long
03:07time.
03:09But, and there's no, and this is every head coach, there's no game planning.
03:14I mean, they're not going to game plan for everything.
03:16And he's going to sit there and evaluate, evaluate what he sees.
03:25And, you know, so it's how are they adapting to the new defense?
03:31Not how is the defense game planning for Carolina and how do they do with that?
03:35But this is a new defense.
03:38You know, you've done it through training camp and OTAs.
03:40Are you where you're supposed to be?
03:41Or are you having problems with it?
03:44They also still are, you know, there might be some things that Allen and the offense like.
03:50Or there might be things they don't like.
03:53And they'll just say, you know what, let's just take this out of the book.
03:56You know, this isn't working.
03:57We've tried it in camp.
03:58We've tried it in a game.
04:00It's not working.
04:01Those are the types of things you're going to see here.
04:04The Carolina Panthers are basically, it doesn't matter what they do.
04:08It's what are the Bills doing?
04:10What are they trying to accomplish?
04:12What are they trying to do for Brady?
04:13The offense is Brady's offense anyway.
04:15But even the offensive coordinator, you know, he's still going to be a part of game day.
04:20He's going to be in the box this game.
04:21He's going to be on the field another time.
04:24You know, where is he going to be where he can be the most help?
04:28And Allen went out of his way today to compliment Pete Carmichael, the offensive coordinator,
04:33and what he's done.
04:35And, Mike, this will thrill you to no end.

04:38Brady is just like any NHL coach you want to call on.

04:44We found out that Conor McGovern, Cole Bishop, and Maxwell Harrison have lower body injuries.

05:07I mean, now in football, once the season starts, you have to give injuries.

05:16I mean, common sense would dictate, however, if somebody was going to be out a while, then you go ahead
05:24and say that.
05:24I think Sean McDermott had to warm up to that himself.
05:27You know, like, why take any chances?
05:30Maybe Brady is this way also.

05:36But if somebody's going to be out, like, I'm tending to think that all these injuries, like, everybody on that

05:47And I have no problem with a coach that doesn't want to say anything more than that.
05:52If he doesn't know, he doesn't know.
05:53That's completely fine.
05:55But if it's something worse, McDermott, for a while, like, to that point, he'd come on the station every Friday
06:02morning and talk injuries with Sal.
06:05And I would say early on in his career, he would never give up.
06:09Is somebody going to miss the game?
06:10But toward the end, he always did.
06:12If he knew, he was just, he sort of like, I don't want to say found God in this way,
06:19but, you know, for all the years of being paranoid about it,
06:22well, maybe I can get some advantage if they don't know if Taylor Rapp is going to play or not,
06:26he got to a point where I was like, yeah, well, he's out.
06:29And Friday morning became appointment listening for this because he got around to, like, just being real about it, which
06:35I thought was great.
06:37But, you know, coaches tend to not be, their instinct is to not be that way.
06:40I think if he's got an injury here that he knows is going to take him to the season, he
06:45can go ahead and say so.
06:46So, I'll give him enough benefit of the doubt here to think that he doesn't know that.
06:49You know, the first practice outside in Orchard Park, there was a low-flying helicopter that went over.
06:55And I honestly don't think it had anything to do more than it may have been a sheriff's helicopter, something
07:00like that.
07:02I would almost guarantee you it wasn't another team scouts.
07:06But I immediately thought of McDermott.
07:09You know, that's low enough.
07:10He might have run everybody inside or stopped practice or something.
07:15That was my immediate thought is if Sean McDermott was still there thinking, this is maybe a little bit more
07:21than we think it is type of a thing.
07:23Well, who knows if any of these players, again, will have injuries that extend into the regular season.
07:30I, again, will say I doubt that the Bills, I don't assume that the Bills know that yet, that there's
07:35still, it's still all up in the air.
07:37Where it is the biggest problem, I think, is in the secondary with Hairston and Bishop and Gardner-Johnson.
07:45I mean, maybe just, this is obvious, but you've got three potential starters that are not, I mean, even it's
07:52worth something, I guess, that they could play in the preseason.
07:55And they won't be able to do that probably at least for now.
07:58So, that'll be interesting to monitor, and maybe he's not great for the Bills.
08:03Yeah, Gardner-Johnson, at least in the beginning of practice, is doing the drills with the defensive backs.
08:08So, I'm not as concerned about him as maybe a guy like Maxwell Hairston or Cole Bishop.

08:15That's a big one, though.
08:16I mean, we've talked to a lot of people over the course of the summer, and the secondary is a
08:22real unknown for them.
08:23It's a big change from the days of Hyde and Poyer and Trey White, where they were just, like, so
08:29solid and, I mean, durable and everything.
08:33I mean, White had his injuries.
08:34But now you've got new faces.
08:37There's youth with Hairston.
08:40And this year's draft, so big one, you know, for the Bills to figure out.
08:45And Hancock, I mean, we talked about him a little bit last year coming in.
08:49But even a guy like Dee Alford, who spent four years with the Falcons, you know, so far, I can
08:56tell you, I've liked a lot of what I've seen in camp, but it's camp.
09:00You know, we're not watching games.
09:01You know, we're not watching, you know, can he come up and wrap somebody up and stop the run?
09:06You know, he's been in the NFL for four years with one team, and now he's with a new team.
09:12Early returns say they might have a good one here.
09:14But we still have to see camp and even camp with pads on is a lot different than when we're
09:21talking about games.
09:23With Paul Hamilton, he was out there today, the Bills and Panthers, Saturday afternoon at 1 in Orchard Park, preseason
09:29game number one.
09:30And game number one in the stadium's history, which is very exciting.
09:34Do you have your own take on this ongoing debate about James Cook and catching more passes this year?
09:44He was on with a guy we know, Matt Harmon, from Yahoo now.
09:49And Matt asked him about, like, it seems everybody's talking about this.
09:52And Cook basically said, what was the quote?

10:01Are you taking for granted that that's going to be with Carmichael?
10:04People have made this point.
10:05He had Alvin Kamara.
10:07Where that's going to be a newer feature of their offense or not necessarily?
10:11Well, with Johnson, Ty Johnson being the third down back, I was a little torn about it because I'm thinking
10:19James Cook is one of the best running backs in the NFL now.
10:22And you're taking him off the field on third down.
10:25But yet, Ty Johnson did a lot of good things on third down, including making some really nice catches, you
10:32know, for first downs and occasional touchdowns.
10:36And there were times I walked away from a Bills game going, Ty Johnson had a nice game.
10:41He really helped them on third down.
10:44But you also are taking one of the better running backs in the National Football League off the field to
10:49put him on the field.
10:52And now, James Cook, at times, has a little trouble catching the ball.
10:57And I don't want to say it's a problem because it's not a huge problem.
11:01But there have been times where the ball's been right there and it was going to be a big gain
11:05and he couldn't hang on to it.
11:08So, you know, definitely, I mean, that's the thing.
11:12I hear, well, they're going to make Kincaid a little bit more, you know, into the offense.
11:16And they're going to throw the ball more to Cook and, you know, I'll steal a line from Keon Coleman.
11:21There's only one football.
11:24And, you know, so all these things that I just brought up can't all happen, really.
11:32You know, because, you know, D.J. Moore is around.
11:34Well, they're going to try to get the ball to D.J. Moore.
11:37Hey, well, what about Josh Palmer?
11:39He's really had a good camp.
11:40And, you know, he can maybe do it.
11:42And what about Coleman?
11:44You know, how useful can he be?
11:45Can they start throwing the ball to him?
11:48Knox had a lot of balls go his way.
11:49Now, I think in an ideal world, maybe not as many balls go Knox's way and some of them go
11:56other ways.
11:59But that's the only thing with Cook is I sometimes sit there and say, it's third down.
12:04And you got a really good running back over on the sideline.
12:08Yeah.
12:09Are you a Kincaid believer, truther, Paul?
12:14I mean, it's kind of this much I think we know that when he is on the field and healthy,
12:20Allen will look for him.
12:22I mean, he's somebody that has had a good target share for a tight end.
12:26And even with that, some good, you know, yards per catch, those kind of numbers.
12:31Like, he is somewhat of a weapon.
12:33Then, you know, you have to – we're talking about his durability all the time, too.
12:37How do you feel about him?
12:39Exactly.
12:39And he's made some big plays for them and, you know, scored some big touchdowns.
12:45Now, of course, when that Kansas City game where, you know, the Bills didn't understand where the rush was coming
12:53from
12:53and Allen had three guys in his lap about the same time as the ball got to him and he
12:57just launched it
12:58and actually launched it where Kincaid could have caught the ball and he wound up, you know, dropping.
13:03I mean, I – honestly, I was, like, dumbfounded when that happened.
13:07I go, really?
13:07He didn't catch that.
13:09Because I just – for him, I – to me, that's a routine catch.
13:12And I was, like, shocked that he didn't catch that.
13:17So that's what I think of Kincaid.
13:19I think he's very good at catching the football when it's near him, around him.
13:23I think he runs great routes.
13:24But the durability, he's got to be available.
13:28And that's one of the reasons why Knox had the year he had because of the, you know,
13:34lack of durability when it came to Kincaid.
13:37Two minutes here, Paul.
13:38I heard you with Jeremy and Joe talking about Thomas Vanek and Jason Pomenville.
13:43And I thought it was smart that they brought up Derek Roy's name.
13:46Yes.
13:47And the more you guys – I felt like the three of you were all talking yourselves into, like,
13:52Derek Roy is on the same level.
13:53And maybe it's right.
13:55I don't – you know, but he's never – I don't even remember him with an A on his sweater.
13:59You know, he wasn't a big leader.
14:01He was, you know, more of a – I want to say, like, class clown type of – I'm not
14:06calling him a clown.
14:07But just, you know, more of that thing than a guy that everybody looked up to.
14:11But then I was starting to look up, and they were talking about – and I had talked about Pomenville
14:15having a great year and start in Rochester after he had been waived.
14:19And then I stumbled upon Derek Roy actually had a better start and did the same thing.
14:24They came up to Buffalo, and both were very good with the Sabres, you know,
14:28after that great start in Rochester.
14:30But I found it interesting, to Jeremy's point, that I remember Pomenville doing it.
14:35I didn't remember Roy doing it, and Roy's numbers were actually better.
14:39And I found that very interesting.
14:41And it just seems like Pomenville and Vanek got a lot of very deserved credit where maybe Derek Roy didn't.
14:50Yeah, I thought Joe made a good point about that, that because he was a center,
14:54maybe he was dumped on more, you know, than guys on the wing.
14:58You're looking to try to build up the middle, and you lose Breer and Drury,
15:01and then, all right, well, this is our number one guy.
15:04But doesn't really have too much to say about how good a player he was.
