00:00All right, you've got to take all of this with the caveat
00:03that I do think the Dolphins are going to be terrible.
00:06I don't know what is their win total, according to Vegas, Jason.
00:11I'd have to look it up.
00:12I can't remember what's the team.
00:14Cakes keeps slamming who?
00:16Who is he slamming?
00:17Cardinals, the Jets.
00:18Maybe the Raiders even.
00:20There's a team that he keeps slamming,
00:22and he knows they're not going to win more than four or five games.
00:24Oh, the Browns.
00:25Maybe it's the Browns.
00:26But when we had the Cleveland guy on,
00:28he said the defense is going to be so good,
00:30they're going to win more games.
00:31They're going to win a few games than you think.
00:32Even without Miles Garrett.
00:33Yes.
00:34He says they'll keep them in games,
00:36and they'll win more than, I think it's four and a half,
00:38or maybe it's five and a half.
00:40Can you tell me what the total is for the Dolphins?
00:43Because I do think they are somewhat putrid.
00:45But we're not going to let that rule the day.
00:47We're just going to go with the overwhelming headline
00:51from everybody virtually I saw that was covering the event,
00:55and that was essentially the Commanders dominated.
00:57Four and a half.
00:58Four and a half, right.
00:59They're going to be bad.
01:00They're going to be bad.
01:01Now, you have to be really bad to win only four games,
01:04so I don't know that I could go under that.
01:05Now, on the same site, Washington's only seven and a half.
01:08Right.
01:08Which is kind of interesting that they haven't increased it by at least.
01:12Well, put it this way.
01:13With Diggs getting there by at least a game.
01:15If we played the Dolphins, I think our total would be like 15.
01:18Okay?
01:19If we played the Dolphins every week, I think we could get to 15.
01:22So they just weren't very good.
01:23They're not very good.
01:24But we dominated, according to everybody that was there,
01:27the first joint training camp practice against the Dolphins yesterday in Ashburn.
01:33You mentioned all the people earlier that were there.
01:35Marco Rubio was there.
01:37I saw that, yeah.
01:37Wale was there.
01:39Freaking Blake Butera and Paul Tabone.
01:43When we were talking to Tabone yesterday,
01:44he was probably driving or on his way to Ashburn.
01:48Tabone?
01:49Yeah.
01:50Tabone was there yesterday, apparently.
01:52Okay.
01:52I mean, I definitely saw Tabone talking to Jackson Kent's parents in the stadium,
01:57but obviously that was a night game.
01:58That was later, yeah.
01:58By the way, Jackson Kent performed pretty well.
02:00Got decent reviews, even though he lasted four innings.
02:03Got a little struggle.
02:03He started to walk some guys.
02:05But, yeah.
02:05Got some good re-strikeout innings.
02:07Yep.
02:07Yeah.
02:07I think he had five for the game, or six.
02:10He looked pretty good.
02:11The one stat I saw is that I think he had three four-pitch walks,
02:15which, you know, we've got to try to tighten that up a little bit.
02:17But, anyway, focusing on the commanders, especially offensively,
02:22almost universally, people said that Jaden dazzled.
02:25Jaden looked really sharp, processed everything quickly,
02:31operated comfortably under center in David Blau's offense,
02:34connected with Terry, with Diggs, with Chig, with Trelon,
02:40with Antonio Williams, with virtually everyone.
02:42And all those guys had big catches.
02:45I think Trelon, I think, had a 70-yard touchdown.
02:48I know Antonio Williams had a play in the red zone,
02:52where he scored a touchdown.
02:54Just looked great.
02:56The passing offense looked great.
02:59That's the thing that also jumped out at people is it was really the first time
03:03to see extended time with Stefan Diggs.
03:07And he and Jaden appear to have a great chemistry.
03:11Everybody talks about how Stefan may be, what, 32 years old?
03:15But he still moves great.
03:17He may not be the 4'3 guy or whatever he was when he came out of University of Maryland
03:21and was kind of neglected in the draft.
03:24Didn't go into, what, the fifth round?
03:26But he, if he's going to be your number two, is an elite number two,
03:31really adds something to that receiving core.
03:35And it's also great insurance in case if something happens.
03:38I was reading a little breakdown on Diggs in particular,
03:41and Phillip Hughes from Sports Illustrated said,
03:43Diggs was clearly the class of the group.
03:45His route running consistent and created separation that carried over into team periods.
03:50He also caught a touchdown from Daniels.
03:52Yeah, they said he had a toe-tapping touchdown in the red zone drills.
03:57Look, you can't read too much into it, but it's encouraging news.
04:00Sure.
04:01I mean, if the recap was, yeah, Jaden struggled through an interception.
04:06He was 8 of 16 instead of 12 of 16.
04:09Yeah, we'd be very concerned.
04:11Yeah.
04:12The running game did struggle a little bit.
04:14I did see reports that people kind of said the build ran hard.
04:18It just weren't a lot of holes, right?
04:20And I think most people are chalking that up to the center issue.
04:24They need to get Allegretti back or at least get somebody of his ilk in there to start the season.
04:30I don't think anybody thinks that Julian Good-Jones or whoever it is that's filling in for him could be
04:35the guy.
04:36So you need to get Allegretti back before you can really sort of evaluate where they are in the running
04:41game.
04:42Defensively, people were raving about him.
04:44I mean, they just kind of like dominated from the jump.
04:48You know, they've been talking all camp about how Owe has just been a disruptive force.
04:53I think that continued.
04:55I'll be honest with you.
04:57I've been sleeping on Kalevon Chason.
05:00I've just been sleeping on how disruptive he potentially could be.
05:04And I think I saw yesterday, Grant's predicting.
05:07He's going on record saying he thinks Chason's going to be the guy that leads his team in sacks.
05:11Yeah, I was driving around, heard the same thing.
05:14So he's watching them and he's been impressed by Chason's.
05:17So that's encouraging.
05:18You wonder what happens when they're at full force, right?
05:20Because Dorrance Armstrong eventually is going to be in the mix.
05:22They don't have Armstrong.
05:23They don't have Dietrich Wise.
05:24And there's a third guy I can't think of off the top of my head that they didn't have.
05:27They have three key guys still not in the mix.
05:30And yet they were getting pressure from Payne, from Johnny Newton, from even Shai Tuttle.
05:37Is that the guy's name?
05:39Yes, they got brought up in Tennessee.
05:41Let's see.
05:41He's kind of like, maybe he'll be on the 70, not the 53, but he's making some waves.
05:46There's a lot of excitement about this defense.
05:48The defense is going to be dramatically different.
05:50I don't know how much better, but it's going to be dramatically different from one of the
05:54worst defenses I've ever seen last year.
05:56Good.
05:56Dramatically.
05:57So that's super exciting.
05:59Did they say how Sonny looked yesterday?
06:02I just heard that he flashed at times.
06:04All right.
06:05Good.
06:05Didn't hear anything marked from him.
06:09But nothing negative.
06:09People are raving about Amik Roberson.
06:14They're saying that that guy, even though he was kind of, the reputation was that in
06:19Detroit, he just really struggled, that he was their third DB, that he was playing the
06:23ones, and that really isn't where he was cast.
06:25I've seen several people say he looks like the best DB in camp.
06:30So, I don't know if that's good or bad, but people love his attitude.
06:34People love the spirit and the energy that he brings.
06:37Sanistro apparently had a big play where he needs that because, now, it's one of those
06:44things where, in a lot of the one-on-one drills, Sanistro's being caught and being beaten in
06:49some of these drills, but the drills, most people acknowledge, are kind of designed where
06:54the receiver has a huge advantage in these one-on-one things.
06:57But when they're playing seven on seven and 11 on 11, Sanistro's looking a lot better.
07:01So, for him to jump a ball, return it for 70 yards, they say it wasn't just like one
07:06of those practice, like that was a real 70-yard pick six, which was good for him.
07:14Just overall, an awesome day for Wight, including the kickers.
07:20I believe both kickers made all their kicks.
07:23Six for six, both of them, and I think both of them hit 60 yarders.
07:25Both of them hit 60 yarders.
07:27Stevens, they said, of course, might have had a little more length on his.
07:30They said his might have been able to go for 70, but Moody made his comfortably too.
07:34So, 1-800-636-1067, it is open line Thursday.
07:38If you happen to see any of it, you can give us a call, give us your insight.
07:41But, yeah, very encouraging news from the Commander's joint practice with the Miami Dolphins.
07:48You will see them in action in their first preseason game tomorrow night.
07:52Now, when we talked to Nikki about this yesterday, Nikki Javala from The Athletic,
07:56she pointed out the first teamers, they play more in this joint practice than they will
08:02in the preseason game.
08:03Especially if they play well, and they did play well, so...
08:08You'll probably hold them out.
08:09The only thing I wonder about is that last year went so bad, and some of it was, at least
08:17some people said it was because they had so many rest days and kind of were soft, and
08:22they didn't really try that hard in preseason and training camp.
08:26It was a different vibe.
08:27Is that maybe Quinn flips a switch and he plays them more than he has in the past.
08:33It's possible.
08:33We all said the McLaurin thing, kind of hanging over the team.
08:36Oh, yeah.
08:36I mean, there are a lot of factors.
08:37There are a lot.
08:38I mean, the biggest one being Jaden's health.
08:39But I think he's tried to address some of that with the way he's structured practices.
08:44Yeah.
08:44We're not having as many veteran days off.
08:46Right.
08:46It's not as, like, Club J-ish as it was last year.
08:49That's what I'm saying.
08:49Maybe he ramps it up in the preseason game, too.
08:51Well, they're still going to be careful and not going to want to get a star quarterback
08:55injured in a meaningless preseason game.
08:57So, I think that...
08:58But he is going to play him.
09:01I don't know that.
09:02Oh, really?
09:03I don't know that.
09:04I mean, maybe he's going to play.
09:06Well, has Quinn said that?
09:08I haven't heard Quinn say that.
09:10They might have played many of these top dogs.
09:13I have no idea.
09:14That'd be interesting.
09:15I think that he has played in the preseason the last two years.
09:20Well, he'll play maybe in that second game.
09:22Maybe not much.
09:23Maybe he'll play...
09:23Maybe he'll play a little...
09:24Maybe he'll play...
09:25One or two series, but we'll see.
09:27I think he's going to be...
09:27If he plays at all, it'll be very limited, and then he'll play maybe a quarter and a
09:32little more in a second, and then that'll be it.
09:33That's it.
09:34I'm telling you, he's too important to the team.
09:36Yeah.
09:36He's too important.
09:37I'm playing him.
09:39I like playing the young guys.
09:40I want them to get the rhythm.
09:41Yeah, but hold on.
09:41If they're not going to play their guys...
09:43No, I'm going to play the guys.
09:45I know, but he's not going to, based on...
09:47I wouldn't play him if they're not playing the first-team offensive line.
09:51Exactly.
09:51If they're not playing the first-team offensive line, if they're not playing Terry, if they're
09:54not playing Diggs, they're not going to expose all their...
09:57I think they're going to play all of them.
09:58Unless you're just going to run.
09:59Guys?
09:59He's just going to run the whole time.
10:00I think they're going to play all of them.
10:01But maybe it's going to be frustrating, because it'll probably just be for one or two series.
10:05I don't know.
10:06But I'd like to see him play for at least a quarter.
10:10About my life, that's not going to happen.
10:12I think it might happen.
10:13All the starters will play a full quarter?
10:15Sure.
10:15I don't think so.
10:17I don't think it'll happen.
10:17I don't think it's going to happen.
10:19I don't think they're going to play McLaurin and Diggs and...
10:21You might...
10:22They might start out with...
10:23And J.D. for a full quarter in the first preseason.
10:26Play Mariota for a half.
10:27I mean, a full quarter is probably two drives.
10:29Yeah, I don't think they'll play all those guys.
10:31Yeah, but based on last year, they didn't play those guys.
10:34They didn't play the top dogs.
10:35That doesn't mean that's why the season went bad.
10:38Of course not.
10:39I would say more often than not.
10:40It would maybe be the month or six weeks of camp, more so than one preseason game.
10:44I think it's frustrating as a fan because we've seen this trend where teams don't even play
10:49their starters at all in a preseason.
10:52The Commanders haven't been one of those teams.
10:54The Rams have been notorious for doing it.
10:57It'd be frustrating to me as a fan if...
11:01We understand that preseason doesn't really mean anything, but you still want to see your
11:05guys out there, I think, as a fan.
11:07And so I'd want to see Jayden out there, at least for a couple drives, see the offense
11:11humming.
11:11I get it.
11:12They get more work in this organized...
11:15I'll call it organized team practice because I don't think it's a true scrimmage, the joint
11:20practice.
11:21Right.
11:21Because they run certain things.
11:22No, they do one-on-one drills.
11:23They're like, okay, here's what we're going to do now.
11:24Yeah, they do one-on-one drills.
11:25It's all scripted.
11:26It's way more controlled.
11:27It's scripted.
11:28Yeah.
11:29I'd like to see some real action.
11:31Yeah.
11:31I'd like to see him, but I don't think he will.
11:33I want to see Jayden at the end of last year.
11:34They didn't even play him at the end of last year.
11:36Regular season games.
11:37You think they're going to play him in week one preseason?
11:39I'm willing to throw some cash on it.
11:42They benched him for the regular season games to protect him.
11:45I'll bet a five spot that he plays tomorrow.
11:48All right.
11:48It's in the books.
11:49Put it in the books.
11:50I haven't heard of it.
11:51I missed a quote.
11:52I don't think either of us have seen the quote.
11:55No, I don't have any inside information.
11:56Just based on last year and just kind of the trend and how valuable it is.
12:00And by the way, how great he's looked so far, why do you need to play him?
12:03And it's our version of the Hall of Fame game.
12:06Why do you need to play him in that?
12:08Well, then why would you play him next week?
12:10It's just the one game where you're going to try to get a little bit of work with your
12:13all ones together for a little bit.
12:15Try to get in and get out.
12:16So why not save that for the third game?
12:17Because you need that to evaluate the bottom end of the roster.
12:21I don't know.
12:22You need that to fill out the 51st, 52nd, 53rd, and 68th, 69th, and 70th spots.
12:291-800-636-1067 when we were talking about some of the other teams.
12:33Now, these are teams that have quarterback competitions.
12:36The Commanders do not have a quarterback competition.
12:38But in Cleveland, Deshaun Watson is going to start.
12:40And then next week, I believe it's Shador Sanders.
12:43In Atlanta, partly because of an injury, Tua is going to start.
12:48And I just expect, I expect Jayden Daniels to be out there.
12:52But it might only be for like two passes.
12:54I don't even think he's going to do that.
12:55I think he's going to look like a million bucks on the sideline.
12:57Five bucks, it's in the book, fellas.
12:59I think he's going to look like a million bucks on the sideline.
13:00Wasn't there an NFL team who just said a couple days ago
13:02that none of their starters are going to play in the first preseason game?
13:04I can't remember which it was.
13:06Matt, did you see that?
13:07There was an NFL team.
13:09I think he just said the way the history has been
13:11is if their starters play well in the joint scrimmage,
13:16they probably won't play in the first preseason game.
13:20I'm going to go with that.
13:22Was it Green Bay?
13:23Could be.
13:24I don't know.
13:25I can't remember what team it was.
13:27I thought I saw that.
13:28I'm sure.
13:29I'm sure there are teams that aren't going to play their guys.
13:32It's our version of the Hall of Fame game.
13:35It's our first.
13:36It's meaningless.
13:37I mean, I would like to see him,
13:39but I can understand why they wouldn't.
13:41He's going to look like a million dollars on the sideline.
13:45You're just going to get horny looking at him on the sideline.
13:48I think he might look like $25 million running play action
13:53and having a completion to chig.
13:55I'd be surprised.
13:57Speaking of Jaden Daniels,
13:59he doesn't want anybody to wear his number at LSU anymore.
14:03Cease and desist to LSU.
14:05What is your take?
14:07Is Jaden Daniels getting too big for his britches?
14:10We'll tackle that next here on The Junkies.
