00:00Who do you think it's important for to be at OTAs on the Washington Commanders?
00:08Who's it important for?
00:09So OTAs are happening right now for the Washington Commanders, right?
00:14Yep.
00:17And traditionally, what I told them, I was like, it's not even really OTAs anymore, right?
00:22The O is supposed to be optional.
00:23No, it's organized.
00:24That's organized.
00:25Organized team activities.
00:27Pretty much everybody shows up.
00:29Yeah.
00:30You know, if you're Aaron Rodgers, you don't show up.
00:33If you're some vet, you don't show up.
00:35Everybody pretty much shows up.
00:37But who is it really important to see running around in shorts?
00:43I have an answer.
00:44Not pads or not tackling?
00:46Any wide out not named Terry McLaurin, in my opinion.
00:50So you know what?
00:50My answer is very similar to you.
00:52I was all offense.
00:53I was like, I know it's important to the defense, and they got a new coordinator, and they drafted
00:59Sonny Styles, and they've got all these new pieces, like Cross, and OA, and all these
01:06things.
01:06But you need that offense to find a rhythm.
01:09So it's Jaden and all of his toys.
01:11For sure.
01:11I think in the RBs, too.
01:13They also have a new offensive coordinator.
01:15They have a whole new system.
01:16I would make an argument on RBs.
01:19I like to see the RBs out there, especially when you've got new guys.
01:22When I've seen OTAs, like last year, I went out to OTAs.
01:25I know they don't do much.
01:26They're running.
01:27Nobody's tackling them.
01:28You're just kind of jogging around.
01:31No, but they're running routes, too.
01:32I mean, I'm sure Jaden's...
01:33They're going to have 11-on-11 drills.
01:36All right, who's it most important to?
01:38Well, the rookies.
01:39And I think the quarterback.
01:41It's Jaden Daniels.
01:42I think the rookies, though.
01:43I'm expecting a lot from Antonio Williams.
01:46I'm with Cakes.
01:47It's Jaden Daniels and the receivers finding a rhythm.
01:49I think it's specifically Luke McCaffrey and Jalen Lane.
01:51Two young guys.
01:53They used relatively high draft capital on third and fourth round picks.
01:57There's going to be pressure from Antonio Williams, from De'Ami Brown.
02:01There's going to be pressure to make the roster for those young guys.
02:03I want to hear from Commanders fans.
02:061-800-636-1067.
02:08I think it's important for Chig.
02:10He's a brand new piece.
02:11A huge piece.
02:13I'm throwing him there in receivers.
02:161-800-636-1067.
02:19See, because they do everything three-quarter speed.
02:22Like, if you remember OTAs last year, and I remember going out there, that was when people
02:26were going, oh, Debo Samuel's fat.
02:29And I was like, damn good to me.
02:33But not that, you know, you're just kind of seeing them run around.
02:36They're not getting hit.
02:37It's always going to be naysayers.
02:38And I actually think for this group, it's important for all of them.
02:41The defense, Sonny Stiles.
02:43I mean, I think it's so important for him.
02:46We have new coordinators on both sides.
02:48Yeah, you've got to learn a playbook.
02:49The communication issues, where guys line up, motion.
02:53I think it's pretty darn important.
02:57Give me your top three players it's most important to.
03:01The OTAs.
03:02Top three players?
03:03Well, obviously, I mean, Jaden coming under center.
03:05That's huge.
03:06All right, Jaden won.
03:08I'm not going to disagree with you.
03:09I would say Sonny Stiles.
03:11He's their first pick.
03:12They're expecting him to step right in and be the Green Dot guy
03:15with communication and everything.
03:16He's got to have it locked down.
03:18I think it's very important for him.
03:19I think it's big for Williams, too.
03:20Antonio Williams.
03:21I think Antonio Williams, I'm expecting him to have a huge role.
03:23But I also think, I agree with Cakes,
03:25you've got to get some of those veterans in there, too.
03:28I mean, it's important for Deami.
03:30It's important for Burks.
03:32It's important for all those guys.
03:33I've got one guy in defense I'll mention.
03:35Johnny Newton.
03:36This is a big year for Johnny Newton.
03:38He needs to.
03:38He's not going to see anything in OTAs.
03:41Maybe not necessarily in the OTAs.
03:43He needs to have a big year to validate being picked in the second round.
03:46It's hard for linemen to pop in OTAs.
03:49Understood.
03:49You know what I mean?
03:50Both sides of the ball.
03:51That's more a 2026 season than OTAs thing.
03:54I think there's a lot of pressure on Johnny Newton to become impactful.
03:57I think it's important for all of them.
03:58These are practical.
03:59Once the OTAs start, you don't see those guys don't get together until July.
04:05Late July.
04:06It's important for all of them to be out there.
04:07Two new systems here.
04:09Yeah.
04:10I think it's very important to see how all these pieces fit, etc.
04:16You know who was listening to various breakdowns of what the commanders have done so far in
04:23the offseason, including the draft and free agency.
04:26And one guy that he said, you know who it was?
04:28It was Greg Cosell.
04:29He was hyping up the Nick Cross signing.
04:32Really?
04:32He loves Nick Cross and the way he fits, potentially, this defense.
04:37Good.
04:37He should have.
04:38That's a run-of-the-radar signing.
04:40Mm-hmm.
04:41So OTA offseason workouts, May 27th, which is today, through the 29th.
04:47Then they're back June 2nd through the 4th.
04:49And June 9th through the 11th.
04:51Right.
04:52Then their mandatory minicamp is June 16th through the 18th.
04:56Yep.
04:56So they're getting together for a couple days, basically, every week.
04:59Every week.
05:00Right.
05:00And then after that, mandatory that you don't see each other for a month.
05:04There are different rules as to how you dress and how you hit.
05:08Supposedly, there's going to be a league representative in every OTA spot.
05:13To make sure there's no cheating.
05:14Yeah.
05:15That they're not going too hard.
05:16Right.
05:17Which is just wild.
05:21I don't even know what that means.
05:23I guess they'll know it when they see it.
05:25But yeah.
05:25Yeah.
05:26So don't expect them to be smashing each other and going 100 miles an hour.
05:30They're not going to be.
05:31But I think it is very important to figure out, make sure where all the pieces fit, where
05:37everybody lines up, get the verbiage down, get your timing down to some extent.
05:44I don't know.
05:45I think it's pretty important.
05:46So they are voluntary workouts, the OTAs.
05:50And of course, last year was the whole Terry McLaurin drama, right?
05:54Terry wasn't showing up.
05:56I mean, these guys are out there.
05:57How big is it for you that Terry shows up?
05:58Because some people believe the fact that he was skipping a lot of these workouts, then
06:03kind of crammed there at the end, and then he had injuries, which he had never had in
06:07his career.
06:07Some people put it on age.
06:09Some people put it on skipping the OTAs.
06:13Now, remember, we saw a video of him at a yoga place.
06:17I'm sure he did what he could on the side, but it's not the same.
06:21So do you...
06:21Cakes, I'm kind of with you that I would have Terry and bubble wrap, but do you think he
06:27should be at these OTAs?
06:28He's got to be out there.
06:28I think he's got to be out there.
06:30He's got to go through the paces and show that he's ready for the grind of the regular
06:34season.
06:34Like a Deshaun Jackson back in the day.
06:36He would blow these off, right?
06:37And then he sent some video of him doing some drill on a beach or something for two minutes
06:43for an Instagram post.
06:45Because he tweaked the hamstring, and he couldn't go full speed for like three weeks.
06:48Are they even important if you're a fan?
06:501-800-636-1067.
06:52So these are kind of the rules for OTAs.
06:55So you can have up to 10 days, and I mentioned they're kind of basically doing a couple days
06:59this week, a couple days next week, then the week after, right?
07:04No live contact is allowed.
07:06Right.
07:10Practices non-padded.
07:11Right.
07:12Yep.
07:12That's true.
07:12So we're talking no pads and no contact.
07:16Yeah.
07:17Coaches apparently can suggest the drills, say, here's what you do, but they can't conduct
07:25the drills that involve tackling.
07:27Okay, so they go to the team captains on each side of the ball and say, this is what we
07:31want
07:31you guys to run through the paces of these drills, and I'm sure they'll do it.
07:36I mean, they're caught.
07:36You think they're not doing some form of coaching out there?
07:39Of course they are.
07:40I mean, come on.
07:41They're doing what the coaches want to see.
07:42Yeah, whether it's them or their proxy that's a player that's going to hand out whatever
07:47the assignment is.
07:48Do you think there's going to be a massive adjustment, or it'll be from our perspective, it will be
07:55a seamless transition, Jaden under center?
08:01You said a massive adjustment?
08:03Do you think there's going to be a massive, noticeable adjustment, where we're going to
08:06see this guy kind of stumble a little bit, or do you think it's going to, I think it's
08:10going to be pretty smooth.
08:11I think it'll be pretty smooth, but he'll probably fumble a couple snaps here and there, and people
08:16go, oh, I understand her.
08:18You know what I mean?
08:18It's going to happen.
08:19He'll fumble a snap and then dive on it.
08:22It happens with everybody, though.
08:23Yeah.
08:25But by and large, do you think he's going to look smooth?
08:28I think he's going to look smooth.
08:29Yes, yes.
08:30I was arguing last year that I thought they would benefit from changing systems.
08:35I remember Cakes was kind of adamant, well, why would you change it?
08:38It's worked.
08:39Right.
08:39Well, yeah, I mean, prior to last year, they were scoring 30 points a game.
08:43They've changed everything.
08:44Dan Quinn radically reshaped this coaching style.
08:47I just see him, like, you put Jaden Daniels, if he plays like he did as a rookie, in a
08:53John
08:54Elway-like system, I think he'd be perfect.
08:56Rolling out all the time, throwing those passes, you know, like kind of a West Coast offense.
09:02Well, he's also, he's good at that, like, make it throws on the move, et cetera.
09:06That's what I'm saying.
09:06I think he would do very well.
09:08See how different Blau's system is compared to Kingsbury.
09:13It's going to be interesting.
09:14Such a big year.
09:15It's such a big year for this team.
09:17By the way, how do the people that are monitoring the OTAs monitor this?
09:22So, according to league rules, this is on NFLPA.com, it says,
09:29intensity and tempo of drills should be at a level conducive to learning,
09:34with player safety as the highest priority.
09:38So, to me, that screams, we're running everything at half speed.
09:43Right, it's a walkthrough.
09:44Yeah, they're not going full out.
09:47They're going to be running at half speed.
09:50Maybe that's another reason why last offseason we looked at Debo and said,
09:55looks kind of slow, looks kind of chunky, because they're doing things at half speed.
09:59They're not running at game speed.
10:01Do you know how much they get paid?
10:04I have no idea.
10:05500 bucks a week?
10:06I don't know.
10:07A couple thousand dollars.
10:0720 bucks an hour?
10:08I got there daily, according to NFLPA.com, how much they get paid per day.
10:13350 bucks a day?
10:14All over, $340 a day.
10:16Is that in addition to whatever the contract they sign?
10:19So, this is separate, because those are like game checks.
10:22The contract kicks in once the season starts.
10:24So, this is just, yeah.
10:26So, Terry's making as much as the quarterback from Rutgers.
10:30I guess so.
10:31The Greek guy?
10:32Yeah, yeah.
10:33I mean, Uber drivers are making more per day.
10:37Do Uber drivers make $350 a day?
10:40They're probably not clearing that per day, because they've got to pay for gas.
10:43They've got to upkeep their vehicle.
10:45Well, they've got to pay Uber.
10:46Uber's got to take their cut.
10:47Uber takes a big cut.
10:48What's Uber get?
10:4950%?
10:49Maybe if you drive 20 hours a day doing Uber, you make what they're making at OTA.
10:53Uber takes $40 a day.
10:55That's side hustle for me.
10:56I feel like they take like 50%.
10:57We got your point.
10:58We got your point.
10:59Yeah, yeah.
11:01I just can't wait to see how we're going to be utilizing motion again.
11:07We're not just going to line up Terry on one side.
11:10But Cliff did change that a little bit.
11:12A little.
11:13After the criticism.
11:14A little.
11:14But like real modern offense.
11:17Yeah.
11:181-800-636-1067.
11:19Let's go to the phones.
11:20What do you want to see from the commanders in these OTAs?
11:24They have three days this week.
11:26I guess the maximum is four days per week.
11:29But I guess Quinn has decided to kind of spread it out throughout May and June.
11:33All right.
11:34Let's go to Dennis in Resta.
11:36Hey, Dennis.
11:37What's up, man?
11:39Good morning, guys.
11:40You know, regarding this topic, I think it's really important.
11:43I agree with everyone.
11:44The whole team is there.
11:46To include all the coaches.
11:48We've got to establish continuity throughout all ranks of this team.
11:52And that's my opinion on it.
11:54One thing that you guys just said a few minutes ago, and it's been a worry of mine for the
11:59last couple of years, that's the way the league itself is treating the teams in the way that they're curtailing
12:05the way that these guys practice.
12:06These guys got to get football ready.
12:08And in my opinion, the league, by holding back, allowing these teams, not allowing these teams, I'm sorry, to do
12:17what they need to do as far as hitting and everything else, they're going to cause players in the early
12:23season, just like it happens every season, every team, to have injuries.
12:26Lots of injuries that probably wouldn't happen if they would just not be so.
12:31I don't know.
12:32Six of one, half does the other.
12:33They start hitting and killing each other.
12:35There'll be injuries there.
12:36I think they're trying to protect them from the grind of the regular season.
12:38So it's such a long season, and it's going to get longer.
12:40So they call this phase three of the offseason, where the players, I guess, can be at the facility a
12:49maximum six hours a day.
12:51So for the next four weeks, they allow you to have 10 total OTAs.
12:56They're trying to get junks like ours.
12:58They're trying to get four hours a day.
13:00And they do a lot of meetings.
13:01That's a lot of meetings.
13:02So there's no pads, except you can have protective knee and elbow pads.
13:07Yeah.
13:08And then helmets are allowed, but there's no live contact.
13:12So they are allowed to do seven on seven, nine on seven, and 11 on 11 drills.
13:18Right.
13:18As long as there's no contact.
13:20Right.
13:21But these guys are used to it.
13:24They know the drill.
13:26The coaches know how to maximize what they need to get out of these sessions.
13:31And then once they get to minicamp, which is a month, then they can keep you in the facility for
13:3510 hours a day.
13:37Jeez.
13:38That's a long-ass day.
13:39And look, the younger players, they were used to it in college.
13:42I mean, they get spring practice leading up to spring games.
13:44Yeah, yeah.
13:44They got to do it.
13:46Yeah, but the 10-hour days includes like weightlifting.
13:49Yes, yes.
13:49And all that stuff.
13:50It's a lot.
13:52But you think about a guy like Jaden who likes to be the first one there.
13:55Jaden likes to be there like 5 a.m.
13:59That guy's there for hours upon hours upon hours.
14:02He can listen to the jumps on his way in.
14:04Hope he does that.
14:05He doesn't have time to catch much cakes if he's there at 5 a.m.
14:08He gets a silly best of.
14:10He's getting a smidge of the replay, maybe.
14:14Maybe.
14:16It's going to be huge for Jaden Daniels at the beginning of the season, I think.
14:21He needs to come out.
14:21Especially with that schedule.
14:22He needs to play well.
14:24He needs to remind people.
14:25He needs to stay healthy.
14:27Yeah, he's got to start stacking games again.
14:31Because obviously, injuries, that was front and center last year.
14:37So durability became the bigger issue than his actual play.
14:41Yeah.
14:41But if you looked at play, and you looked at quarterback rating, the traditional quarterback
14:46rating, he was at 88.
14:48It was just never.
14:48Very pedestrian.
14:49It wasn't fair.
14:49It was just so.
14:50If you look at QBR.
14:51It was so hit or miss.
14:52He was below average.
14:53No, he wasn't playing great.
14:54The metrics weren't good.
14:55Yeah, but it was such a small sample size.
14:57It was so hit or miss.
15:00I don't think he lost any ability.
15:03He didn't lose any ability.
15:06The first month of the season is just massive.
15:08Not just for Jaden, but for a lot of guys.
15:11Especially with that schedule.
15:13The schedule.
15:14I mean, it's just.
15:14What did I hear?
15:15Did I hear we're favorites in four or six?
15:19It's one of the two.
15:21Obviously, you have no idea how the season is going to play out.
15:23It's based on last year and projections.
15:25But currently, right now.
15:25I think they're favored in four or six.
15:28It might be four.
15:30That makes sense.
15:30I would say Cardinals, Titans.
15:33Think about it.
15:33At home against the Falcons.
15:38Maybe at home against the Giants.
15:40Home against the Giants.
15:41To win in Vegas.
15:43Well, wouldn't they be.
15:44It's either four or six.
15:45Wouldn't they be favored against the Colts, even though that's neutral?
15:47They have one of the top picks in the draft.
15:49Makes sense.
15:51That could be a favorite if he had a terrible record.
15:53And you're picking high in the draft.
15:55Right, but if you're expecting a bounce back year, it's hard to bounce back when you're
15:59only going to be favored four or five times.
16:00The Cardinals are projected to be underdogs in every game this season.
16:05All 17 games.
16:06Right.
16:07Brissette, the starter right now?
16:09As of right now.
16:09I mean, it's him and Gardner Minshew, and they drafted Carson back.
16:13That's your quarterback room.
16:16Tanking in plain sight is happening in Arizona.
16:181-800-636-1067 is the number.
16:22Coming up next, we'll open up the entertainment page here on The Junkies.
