The mother of the first complainant in the Alan Jones trial has testified that her son initially told her he had not been touched by the accused. She told the court he opened up about his alleged experiences a year later after news of Mr Jones' arrest.

00:01A shock jock strides in for day eight of his criminal trial.
00:06How are you feeling today, Mr Jones?
00:07One of his six alleged male victims,
00:10Complainant Jay alleges he was indecently assaulted by Mr Jones
00:14when he was either 17 or 18.
00:16Today, his mother said she asked her son if Mr Jones touched him
00:20back when reports emerged in the media in 2023.
00:24He said no.
00:25The court heard a year later he opened up
00:27after news of the broadcaster's arrest.
00:30And I just said, I'm sorry that happened.
00:32I should have protected you.
00:34Jay's former athletics coach was also called to testify,
00:38telling the court,
00:38I always thought Alan was nothing but supportive of Jay's career.
00:42Jay never disclosed anything to me about Alan that caused me any concern.
00:47Jay's ex-girlfriend claims he told her Alan Jones inappropriately touched him
00:51after a trip to the radio host's Fitzroy Falls property 20 years ago.
00:56The complainant sent her a message in 2024
00:59after she reported that conversation to police saying,
01:03that was something that could change my life for the better.
01:06Once it's all over, I promise to look after you,
01:09which the woman love-hearted.
01:11Defence barrister Gabrielle Bashir SC asked,
01:14you understood that promise was a promise to look after you financially?
01:18To which the woman replied,
01:20no, it does look like that, but it never crossed my mind.
01:23A fiery exchange broke out in court
01:25when the prosecution accused Mr Jones' barrister of intimidating the witness.
01:30The defence repeatedly pushed to the woman
01:33that the conversation about inappropriate touching never happened,
01:36a suggestion she strongly rejected.
01:39Are you ready to hear more allegations from a second complainant, Mr Jones?
01:43That alleged victim, a former colleague,
01:46will start their evidence tomorrow.
