A Maned Wolf is a unique wild canine famous for its extremely long legs, reddish-orange coat, large ears, and distinctive black mane. Native to the open grasslands and savannas of South America, especially Brazil, it is the tallest wild canine in the world.
Despite its name and fox-like appearance, the maned wolf is neither a true wolf nor a fox. Its unusually long legs help it see and move through tall grasses while searching for food. Maned wolves are omnivores, eating rodents, birds, insects, reptiles, fruits, and a tomato-like fruit called the lobeira, or wolf apple.
Usually solitary and most active around dusk and night, maned wolves communicate using scent markings and deep, distinctive calls known as roar-barks. Their unusual appearance, adaptable diet, and mysterious grassland lifestyle make them one of South America’s most fascinating mammals. 🌾🐾✨
