A Ringtail, also known as the Ringtail Cat, is a small and agile mammal famous for its enormous eyes and long, bushy tail marked with striking black-and-white rings. Native to North America, especially the southwestern United States and Mexico, ringtails thrive in rocky deserts, canyons, woodlands, and mountainous habitats.
Ringtails are mostly nocturnal and are exceptional climbers. Their flexible ankles allow their hind feet to rotate significantly, helping them descend steep surfaces and navigate rocky cliffs with remarkable agility. They feed on rodents, insects, birds, reptiles, fruits, and other available foods.
Despite its nickname, the ringtail is not a cat. It belongs to the raccoon family and is closely related to raccoons and coatis. Its impressive climbing ability, distinctive tail, and secretive nighttime lifestyle make the ringtail one of North America’s most fascinating small mammals. 🌙🌵✨
