A Zorilla, also known as the Striped Polecat, is a small but fearless African mammal famous for its striking black-and-white coat and powerful defensive smell. Found across much of sub-Saharan Africa, zorillas inhabit savannas, grasslands, scrublands, and other dry environments.
Mostly nocturnal, zorillas spend their nights hunting insects, rodents, birds, reptiles, and other small animals. When threatened, they can raise their fur, turn their rear toward the attacker, and release an extremely strong-smelling secretion from specialized scent glands to drive predators away.
Despite looking similar to a skunk, the zorilla belongs to the mustelid family, making it more closely related to weasels and badgers. Its bold markings, fearless behavior, and remarkable chemical defense make the zorilla one of Africa’s most fascinating small predators. 🌙🌿✨
