00:00Because Donald Trump has cost our state far too much already.
00:07And we are not about to give Donald Trump another loyal soldier like Michelle Tafoya
00:13to take his orders and do his bidding.
00:18Chi miigwech, Minnesota.
00:24For months now, I have been telling you that this campaign was about the many versus the
00:31money.
00:35Well, guess what?
00:37The many just won.
00:46And make no mistake about it.
00:49This didn't happen because of me.
00:52This happened because of you.
00:57This happened because you said Minnesota is not for sale.
01:07Not now and not ever.
01:14Now, I just got off the phone with Congresswoman Craig.
01:17And she assured me that she is in this fight with us.
01:28And look, it is no secret that Congresswoman Craig and I haven't seen eye to eye on everything.
01:35And that's OK, because that's what primaries are all about.
01:43We are both proud Democrats, both proud DFLers.
01:47And we love this state.
01:54And we both know that we just can't hand Donald Trump another Senate seat.
02:04And I want to be very clear that to everyone who voted for Angie Craig.
02:09I appreciate that you made your voice heard, but I also want you to know this, that I will
02:17work my tail off to earn your votes.
02:21And most importantly, your trust.
02:29Because I need you in this fight.
02:32Minnesota needs you in this fight.
02:37Because Donald Trump has cost our state far too much already.
02:44And we are not about to give Donald Trump another loyal soldier like Michelle Tafoya to take his
02:51orders and do his bidding.
02:57Michelle Tafoya was all in with Trump when ICE was terrorizing our neighbors.
03:05She even said ICE treated children really, really well.
03:15Well, Michelle, tell that to Liam Conejo Ramos.
03:21Tell that to the parents who were disappeared.
03:25Tell that to the kids who don't know where their mom or dad are right now.
03:30Because the last thing this country needs is to give Donald Trump another yes, sir, senator.
03:38Trump cut 15 million people off of their health care.
03:42And Michelle Tafoya said, yes, sir, tax.
03:47Tax breaks for billionaires, yes, sir, you betcha.
03:53Crushing tariffs, yes, sir.
03:57An illegal war that's costing us billions.
04:04Michelle Tafoya said, yes, sir, Mr. President.
04:08And when people said the war was driving gas prices too high, she told Minnesotans, and I
04:16quote, keep a stiff upper lip and take one less trip to Starbucks.
04:25Woof.
04:27And you know what?
04:29We already have too many spineless yes, sir, senators who won't stand up to Donald Trump.
04:38Minnesota, we are not going to send him another one.
04:44And Michelle Tafoya may not understand what you're going through, but I do.
04:54I was raised by an amazing single working mom struggling to pay for food and rent.
05:05So to me, food assistance isn't just another line item in the federal budget.
05:11It's why I was able to walk out of the food shelf with a block of commodity cheese under
05:17my arm like a football.
05:19Section 8 wasn't just a number.
05:22It's how we moved into our apartment in St. Louis Park.
05:30And Medicaid isn't just some abstract program.
05:34It's what kept me alive as a kid with really bad asthma.
05:39And that's why I've spent my entire career focused on helping families like mine get ahead.
05:46Because I know what it's like to stretch 20 bucks through the end of the month.
05:52As the head of the Children's Defense Fund, I led the campaign to raise the minimum wage
05:58and index it to inflation.
06:00And we won.
06:07I worked for a decade to pass paid family and medical leave.
06:12And we won.
06:17And I helped win the battle for free school breakfast and lunch for our kids.
06:26For emergency insulin for those in desperate need.
06:31And let's be clear that these were moonshot ideas when we started fighting for them.
06:37But we knew that they were worth the fight.
06:40And when did we stop believing that our elected leaders could improve people's lives,
06:46not just make them a little less lousy?
06:50Right?
06:51We need to start fighting for people again.
06:57For children.
07:00For children like my buddy Bentley, who I first met in Brainerd.
07:06His mom, Chris, worries about losing the Medicaid that keeps her precious kiddo alive.
07:13Folks like Jessica in Canby, who has a $16,000 deductible and paid 600 bucks for a five-minute med
07:21check.
07:22For the moms in the checkout line at Cub who quietly whisper to their child to put something back on
07:29the shelf
07:30because there's not enough money in their account.
07:33For the eight-year-old that I met in Richfield who told me that she couldn't go on field trips,
07:40her favorite part of school, because of ICE.
07:44So as your next senator, here are the things that I'm ready to throw down for.
07:54Ending the despicable priorities of an administration that hands out tax breaks to billionaires,
08:01builds gilded ballrooms, and spends billions on bombs while screwing over working people.
08:15Truly affordable housing so that people can pay their rent and young people can buy their first home before they're
08:23middle-aged.
08:27Passing rights to repair so that Minnesota farmers can fix their own damn equipment.
08:36And getting rid of prior authorization so that some dude behind a desk, or worse yet, an AI bot,
08:43isn't determining whether you get the life-saving health care that your doctor has prescribed.
08:54And passing Medicare for All.
09:03Because we are going to make healthcare available and affordable once and for all.
09:14And now let's talk about Donald Trump's out-of-control ICE force.
09:23We need to rip ICE apart and stop them from terrorizing our communities.
09:33And I know this.
09:35I know that we can fix our broken immigration system, secure the border, and create a real
09:41pathway to citizenship that aligns with our values.
09:48And we are going to stop Donald Trump's billion-dollar-a-day illegal war in Iran and
09:54the crushing gas and fertilizer prices.
09:59We are going to fight the corruption, whether it's in the White House or in the halls of Congress,
10:04because the grift has to stop.
10:12And make no mistake, we are going to protect our democracy from this out-of-control president
10:18and all the yes-sir senators who are doing his bidding.
10:25And we're also going to protect our democracy from the corporate PACs and dark money groups
10:30that are trying to buy our politicians.
10:37Because you know and I know the best way to end Citizens United is to show that we can
10:43run and win grassroots people-powered campaigns.
10:51And I know that all of these ideas are possible.
10:57And they're what people in every corner of the state,
11:03every person in the corner of the state have been demanding,
11:06so that they can afford the lives they want to live.
11:10And that's exactly why I am running for this seat.
11:17And we know the folks that we are up against are going to campaign,
11:22they're going to campaign, they're going to run a campaign of dishonesty, distraction,
11:28and division. And we know that because that's what Trump's candidates do.
11:34They run the same playbook everywhere they go. They lie.
11:41And so let me tell you who I really am.
11:48I am the daughter of Marvin Manypenny,
11:53an Ojibwe activist who was always ready to get into good trouble for a good cause.
12:01And our clan is the Wolf Clan.
12:04And the role of our clan is to leave no one behind.
12:12I am the daughter of Pat Flanagan,
12:36an Irish Catholic healthcare worker who skipped meals so that I could eat.
12:43She had a compassionate heart for everyone she met.
12:48I am Siobhan's mom and Tom's wife.
12:55And we are a family that is small but mighty.
13:00And they are the center of my world.
13:04We go to mass every Sunday with a congregation that looks like Minnesota.
13:12And a church that reminds us to look out for one another.
13:17And to treat our neighbor as we would treat ourselves.
13:23And my life has been grounded by family, by community, and in my faith and service.
13:34And I am a proud Minnesotan who is guided by the belief that we should always do the next good
13:42thing.
13:45And Minnesota, you know me.
13:49And no matter how hard they try to tear me down to buy this Senate seat,
13:55I know that you won't be fooled.
13:58Because we have a choice.
14:01And it's a simple one.
14:03Minnesota can send another Donald Trump yes-sir senator to do his bidding.
14:12Or we can insist on change and send someone who will always put Minnesota first.
14:24And I know that there are thousands of independents and Republicans who agree with us.
14:31Because I have met so many of you on the road.
14:36You've told me how you're disappointed in the direction that Trump is taking our country.
14:42And as my political hero, Paul Wellstone, once said,
14:48he said, I don't think politics has anything to do with left, right, or center.
14:54It has to do with doing right by people.
14:58And we all know that Donald Trump isn't doing right by anyone but himself.
15:07So I'm asking you to join us.
15:10Because there's nothing more powerful than millions of Minnesota voices calling out for change.
15:22And now, I want to thank every one of you that has already lent their voice.
15:32I want to thank Tom and Siobhan.
15:41My home team.
15:43Because we really did this together.
15:51And my mom.
15:54And my aunties.
16:02And all the bad-ass women who raised me and gave me the courage to fight.
16:16I also want to thank Tim and Aaron.
16:22Siobhan's dad and stepmom.
16:28We've rise together.
16:30And I am so grateful for Team Siobhan.
16:38To Senator Tina Smith.
16:51You have been one of my dearest mentors and friends for many years.
16:58You've shown Minnesota what it looks like to always put people first.
17:04And you've done it with integrity and courage.
17:08And a sharp sense of humor that I know I'll miss in the United States Senate.
17:16I have learned so much from you.
17:18And I am so grateful to have your support in this campaign.
17:27And I want to thank the DFL for your endorsement.
17:35And I want to congratulate every DFL-er who won today.
17:39Especially my buddy, Attorney General Keith Ellison.
17:56Thank you to my first endorser, State Auditor Julie Blaha.
18:10And to all of the elected leaders who endorsed our campaign.
18:17And I want to give a huge shout-out to SEIU, the National Nurses United.
18:32UFCW 663, the first union to endorse in this race.
18:38And to all my brothers and sisters and siblings in labor.
18:48Faith in Minnesota, the Muslim coalition.
18:56Indivisible.
19:00And to everyone in Indian country who's been lifting me up.
19:12I want to thank my incredible campaign team.
19:19The thousands of organizers and volunteers whose energy powered this campaign.
19:30Together, we are going to win in November.
19:37And last but not least, I want to thank everyone who knocked on a door, carried a sign, sent a
19:48text, said a prayer.
19:50And just flat out, mobilized, organized, and fought to make tonight possible.
20:03But folks, we are not done yet.
20:09Michelle Tafoya is going to be bankrolled by every corporate special interest.
20:14Every radical mega-billionaire you can think of.
20:20And this campaign has always been about the many versus the money.
20:28So if you want to help us beat MEGA in November, go to PeggyFlanagan.com.
20:37Because they're desperate to give Trump another yes-sir senator to do his bidding.
20:47And another Republican truck full of yes-sir senators who will say yes-sir to anything Donald Trump wants.
20:58And we are not going to give them a Republican majority, friends.
21:03We're not going to let them flip this seat.
21:08Minnesota is going to be part of Democrats taking back the Senate, holding Donald Trump accountable.
21:15And helping working people before billionaires and corporate special interests.
21:28And you know what else I know?
21:30We're going to win.
21:34The many are going to beat the money one more time.
21:45Because I've seen how powerful we are when we stand up and fight for each other.
21:52This year, our state faced incredible challenges.
21:57But we came together and we came out stronger than ever.
22:03And we're going to do it again.
22:06Because when we work together, when we organize together, when we fight together, we are unstoppable.
22:20So, tonight, let's enjoy this party at the iconic First Avenue.
22:32But tomorrow, let's fight our hearts out together for our state and for our country.
22:54Minnesota, I love you so much.
23:07Minnesota, I love you so much.
23:13My mom is so proud.
23:23She's been all over the place recently.
23:25Absolutely.
23:28So, we're going to go.
23:30We're going to work hard.
23:32We're going to keep doing the work we have been doing.
23:38By running a campaign that is grounded in people, our love for each other, for the state, for the common
23:49good.
23:52And we are going to win.
