Six people have reportedly been killed and 19 wounded after Russia launched a massive overnight missile and drone barrage across Ukraine, with Zaporizhzhia among the hardest-hit areas.

Ukrainian officials said the attack on Zaporizhzhia involved ballistic missiles, including North Korean-linked missiles, Russian Zircon missiles and guided aerial bombs. Residential buildings, commercial structures, industrial sites and other infrastructure were damaged, while fires and power outages were reported.

The wider Russian attack also targeted areas around Kyiv, Kherson and Kharkiv, as well as several other Ukrainian regions. Ukraine said more than 120 drones were launched during the overnight assault, with air defenses destroying or jamming around 98.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strikes and accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure. Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces targeted defense-industry facilities and transport and logistics sites.

The attack comes amid continued concerns over Russia’s use of North Korean ballistic missiles and expanding military cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang.

00:07Six civilians are dead, nearly 20 are wounded, and Zaporizhia has been hit by a devastating
00:14overnight barrage of missiles and glide bombs. Russian forces launched a large-scale combined
00:20strike on the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia overnight from August 10th into August 11th.
00:28Ukrainian officials say the attack killed at least six civilians and wounded 19 others,
00:35with rescue teams continuing to respond to fires and damaged buildings. The strikes hit residential
00:41areas, including apartment buildings as well as commercial structures, garages, industrial sites,
00:48and other infrastructure. Parts of the city were also left without power. But the weapons used in
00:55the attack are drawing particular attention. According to Ukrainian officials, the barrage
01:01included North Korean ballistic missiles, Russian zircon hypersonic missiles, and guided aerial
01:07bombs, also known as glide bombs or CABs. Ukrainian officials have identified some of the ballistic
01:15missiles as North Korean systems, including missiles associated with the KN-23 family.
01:22President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack, saying Zaporizhia was struck with North Korean
01:28ballistic missiles, zircons, and guided bombs. He accused Russia of carrying out what he described as
01:35a deliberate attack designed to cause maximum damage to civilian infrastructure. The overnight assault was
01:43not limited to Zaporizhia. Across Ukraine, Russian forces launched a much broader barrage,
01:49involving more than 120 drones, according to Ukrainian officials. Ukraine says its air defenses destroyed
01:58or jammed around 98 of those drones. But ballistic missiles remain one of the most difficult threats
02:05for Ukrainian air defenses to counter. And the latest attack demonstrates how Russia is combining different
02:11weapons in a single wave. Drones, ballistic missiles, hypersonic weapons, and glide bombs, potentially
02:19overwhelming defensive systems. Other parts of Ukraine were also hit. In Kyiv, a building connected to
02:26an infectious diseases and children's hospital was damaged, along with businesses and warehouses.
02:33Children and medical staff were reportedly sheltering during the attack, with no injuries reported at the
02:39hospital itself. Strikes were also reported in Kherson and Kharkiv, where infrastructure including power
02:47substations was hit, causing outages. Additional attacks were reported across the Donetsk, Dnipro-Petrovsk,
02:55and Mykolaiv regions. Russia's defense ministry said its forces targeted defense industry facilities
03:01and transport and logistics centers in Kyiv and Zaporizhia, but Ukrainian officials say the strikes
03:09caused significant damage in civilian areas. The attack also highlights the growing military
03:15cooperation between Russia and North Korea. Ukraine has repeatedly accused Russia of using North Korean
03:22ballistic missiles on the battlefield, while Kyiv says Moscow is expanding its reliance on foreign
03:28military support. Zelensky has also warned that Russia is increasing ballistic missile production
03:35and preparing for further escalation. For the people of Zaporizhia, the result was immediate
03:41and devastating. Homes damaged, buildings burning, power disrupted, and civilians killed. As rescue
03:49operations continue, the casualty figures could still change, but one thing is clear. Russia's latest
03:56overnight barrage has brought a deadly combination of ballistic missiles, hypersonic weapons, glide bombs,
04:03drones, and drones, down on Ukrainian cities once again.
