02:58In the meantime, welcome to this episode of the Fro Wrestling Podcast.
03:02We got lots of things going on in the world of wrestling today.
03:04This episode in particular, we're going to focus on one of the big stories of the week,
03:07talking about Bayley, Bayley, the conversation about whether or not her contract, which is
03:14officially been announced to be expiring in October, and whether or not she's going to
03:18re-sign with WWE.
03:19And I think everybody has their suspicions that she's going to AEW, and I understand that.
03:25I love the fact that this week she was trolling a bit.
03:28She put out a training montage, and she had a caption in the training montage that said,
03:36all or nothing, baby.
03:38And, you know, is it a shout-out to AEW?
03:41Is it implying that next year's big show, one of the big shows, that she'll be there?
03:46Is it implying that she'll be at All In or All Out this fall?
03:52I don't know.
03:53If her contract is up in October, putting out stuff that references All In or All Out is
03:58kind of crazy to me.
03:59As a matter of fact, the song that she used during the training montage, which, by the
04:03way, you were able to see her training with a lot of different people in this training
04:07montage, including Mercedes Monet.
04:09But the song she chose was All In, which, look, is this one of these things where she's
04:14just saying that because she's going to be there to support her friend?
04:16Is this something much more serious than that?
04:19Did WWE come on to terms agreeing to her release early?
04:22I mean, I can't imagine they would do that just because of how competitive the nature of
04:27the relationship between WWE and AEW is right now, which is really a shame.
04:31I mean, if you think about it, Tony Khan, if he really is a huge fan the way he claims
04:35to be, and I do believe he is, then you would think when he created his new company that
04:40he would have, instead of being so divisive and against WWE, you would have thought he
04:46would have tried to establish a relationship early, and that could have been very productive.
04:49Look what's going on with some of the other things.
04:52Triple A is doing record business more than they've ever done before, and a lot of that
04:55has to do with that WWE influence.
04:57Um, so, not sure.
04:59Not sure how I feel about all this stuff.
05:01Um, I suspect if I had to make a prediction, I would imagine she'll go to AEW, not because
05:06she necessarily wants to lead WWE, but WWE is where she got, you know, cut her teeth.
05:11She's got a great following there.
05:13She could always come back later, um, and do a nostalgia thing if necessary.
05:18I don't know how long she wants to wrestle for, but she could also come back and be a trainer
05:22or, you know, be at the Performance Center, someplace she's got a lot of memories.
05:26Um, I think it would make all the sense in the world to go to AEW because there's things
05:31there to do that she has not yet done, and she can get to share the ring again with Mercedes,
05:35which is something obviously she would care a great deal about.
05:37So I, you can't falter for the desire.
05:40Um, the question I have is WWE's product and AEW's products are very, very different from
05:46one another.
05:46The women in AEW, let's call it like it is.
05:49They've gotten bloody, they've gotten beaten, they've done some hardcore things.
05:54Um, I'll, I'll go back to like things like Britt Baker and, um, uh, Thunder Rosa, like
06:00bloodbaths and things like that.
06:02I don't see somebody like Bayley wanting to do that.
06:05That would shock me to see her want to do something like that.
06:07I don't really see Mercedes wanting to do that either, but let's face it, she's getting
06:10paid.
06:10Um, would Bayley move the needle in AEW?
06:13Probably to a degree in the women's division.
06:15But you think about the matchups that we've never seen before, the Bayley, Chris Statlander,
06:20Bayley, Willow, um, Bayley, Jamie Hayter, Bayley, you know, all the who's who of the top
06:24of the card, Bayley, uh, Tekla.
06:26Um, those are all exciting opportunities.
06:29I actually have less interest in the Bayley versus Mercedes Monet in AEW match.
06:34I don't really have any interest in that match.
06:37They've wrestled countless times before.
06:39We've seen it over and over and over again, and nothing is ever going to top that NXT
06:43performance when they headlined, you know what I mean?
06:45At, at, uh, uh, oh my goodness, what the heck is the name of the pay-per-view stand and
06:50deliver?
06:51Nothing's ever going to top that.
06:52So trying to, is just going to look like a team who knock off, no matter what you do.
06:56I mean, even if you put on a great performance, nothing will ever change the people's perspective
07:00on how great that match was at takeover.
07:03So, um, so I said stand and deliver, I meant takeover.
07:08So, you know, hopefully things get figured out.
07:11We find out where she's headed.
07:13I hope WWE is changing some of their ideas.
07:16I would not be surprised if she's one of the talents that was asked to take a pay cut
07:20and turned it down.
07:22And that that's part, maybe she like Seamus is getting out of her contract early.
07:26I don't know.
07:27We'll have to wait and see, uh, touching on a sort of, uh, AEW related, but not really
07:33their partnership with CMLL is where I'm starting with this.
07:37There was a talent there, La Catalina, who was working for CMLL.
07:40It was able to do cross promotional stuff if necessary, uh, who left CMLL and joined
07:47AAA after WWE took over.
07:49So now she's down in AAA and look, if you haven't seen it on, I believe it was August 8th,
07:54she
07:54had a three-way that was just unreal.
07:58And, you know, she did not come out the victor.
08:00It was for the AAA Reina de Reina's championship.
08:03And, uh, La Flammer ended up winning the match.
08:07Um, but she's been having this whole thing down there with Lady Flammer, with Los Toxicas.
08:13Um, I would have, I have no problem with her staying in AAA because if you watch that match
08:20from a couple of days ago, man, these two ladies can go.
08:23However, word came out a couple of days ago that WWE is having her come up to the Performance
08:29Center.
08:30They may be interested in expediting her trip and journey to the main roster and get her
08:35into NXT sooner than later.
08:37And, you know, look, I get it.
08:39I was watching LFG.
08:40Yes, I admitted that out loud because I actually think LFG is a fantastic show.
08:43I really do.
08:44And you hear Shawn Michaels talking about how he needs the talent that are in the developmental
08:49system to get ready for NXT as fast as possible.
08:52Now, I don't know why you're rushing people as fast as possible.
08:55I have the opposite perspective.
08:57You have so many contracted talents right now that don't even see premium live events.
09:02You don't have to rush anybody right now.
09:05As a matter of fact, I would encourage you to bolster Evolve, bolster NXT, um, even do more
09:12with LFG, expand LFG a bit, then rush people to the main roster and then they get there
09:18and they don't get used properly.
09:19I don't want to see people like Ilya Drogonov and Jordan Grace sitting on the sidelines, not
09:24able to do a whole lot because they don't know what to do with them because you rush
09:27so many people to the main roster and there's only so much TV time.
09:30So, you know, if La Catalina is on her way to NXT, I get it.
09:34I understand it.
09:34But I just hope this isn't like the express way to the main roster.
09:38Let's be, that's going to sound terrible because it's like, it's so stereotyping, but
09:42with as over as Stephanie Vaqueror is with, with our Hispanic Latino population, they have
09:48someone who really represents that culture.
09:50It's beautiful.
09:51She's at the top of the card and I don't want to take away from her reign by having another
09:56dominant female come in.
09:58Now, at the same time, if she is going to come in, I think she would be a great addition
10:02to SmackDown where we don't have that same representation and we need that.
10:06We need representation from all different styles, all different cultures on every brand
10:11in every show, but I still am concerned about what you're doing in terms of, you know, I
10:16don't want to see them start gutting AAA's talent pool because people are getting over.
10:20Build AAA or they're looking to get a TV deal.
10:22I would not be bringing her up right now, but she will be at the Performance Center.
10:25One can only speculate as to what that's for and it can't be because they're not impressed
10:29with what she's done.
10:30It's only going to be because they are.
10:32Um, let's go and switch up a little bit.
10:34Steph D. Lander, former, uh, talent in TNA left TNA and then signed with produce wrestling.
10:42Um, and now has come out on X and declared that she will no longer be appearing for produce
10:48wrestling.
10:48And she is not the first one earlier in the week.
10:51Joey Janela, Megan Bain, both also left produce wrestling.
10:54Now I don't, I apologize.
10:56I don't remember his name, but the promoter for produce, Joey Janela went off on this guy,
11:00shared text and tweets and all, or said he has texts and tweets and things to show, um,
11:05about how this guy spoke disrespectfully to he and to Megan Bain.
11:08That's why they left.
11:10Uh, Steph D. Lander in her post said that she can corroborate everything that Joey Janela
11:14is saying that this, uh, the promoter for produce wrestling is just not, um, he doesn't know
11:20how to talk to people.
11:21You know, he just doesn't get it done.
11:23And look, I'm a diehard fan of pro wrestling and all its shapes and forms.
11:26I think we need to support independent wrestling as best we can.
11:29But just cause you're an indie promoter doesn't make you, you know, Vince McMahon, you've got
11:34to talk to people correctly.
11:35Even if you have a tiny little company or a brand new budgeting company, and when you've
11:39already lost three talents in your promotion, isn't that old, especially when there's rumors
11:44that Steve Macklin, who was like a big signee for them is potentially heading to AEW.
11:49I'd be a little hesitant to start irritating your talent.
11:52You may crumple, cripple your, uh, your, your company before it even gets started.
11:56And the last thing for this episode, all in London, the ticket sales that they're set
12:01for August 30th is when the show is going to take place.
12:04And a lot of people were concerned about whether or not they're going to sell enough tickets.
12:08Then it was, are they going to outsell SummerSlam and whatnot?
12:11And if we're being straight up honest, it's all in the numbers.
12:13Ever since they announced a 50% ticket price reduction, and let's be honest, AEW doesn't
12:20charge as much as WWE to begin with.
12:22And this is their flagship show of the year.
12:24The fact that they offered a 50% sale really spiked the ticket sales.
12:29They are right now, as of yesterday, sitting at 37,113 tickets sold for the event.
12:35They have a max capacity, the way they're setting up the arena of 44,091.
12:40I always have a tough time with that, but a couple of years ago, you're talking about
12:43selling 70,000 tickets, set it up for 70,000 people.
12:46If you're at Wembley, you know what I mean?
12:48Like that's where they should be.
12:49Like go to Wembley when you're going to do London, go to Wembley and sell 70,000 tickets.
12:53Um, and if not have a half empty stadium, but still 50,000 tickets.
12:57I don't like pigeonholing yourself to 44,000.
12:59However, it only leaves 6,978 tickets remaining, which means all in very likely as if, as we look
13:06at it right now is going to be a sellout.
13:08And this, you know, you're talking about 44,000 tickets to an event when WWE just struggled
13:13to promote SummerSlam.
13:16So this is a great look for AEW.
13:18Anybody who ever likes to sing the, the, the, or talk about the early demise of AEW, I don't
13:24know what you're looking at because their ticket sales are strong.
13:26Their product is solid.
13:28Everybody's got what they like.
13:29If you like WWE style, fine.
13:31You're going to be a WWE diehard.
13:32If you don't like WWE style and you're looking for an alternative, maybe you were more akin to
13:37like the later years of WCW or even some ECW ish stuff, then you're going to lean more
13:42towards all elite wrestling.
13:43And there's nothing wrong with that.
13:45I like all wrestling.
13:45I think they're all phenomenal.
13:47I get tired of the tribalism going back and forth, which roster is better, which wrestlers
13:50better.
13:51They're all phenomenal.
13:52They're fantastic wrestlers, great talents.
13:55Kudos to Tony Khan for having a great company.
13:57I do think they need to tell more stories.
13:59I don't think they need 7,000 matches on like eight hour shows and for major PLEs and things
14:05like that, but they're learning the ropes.
14:07But at least Tony is getting a lot more talents onto their premium live events.
14:12WWE can't say that.
14:13They really can't.
14:14It's really a shame.
14:14And they have almost the same size rosters between each other.
14:17So hopefully all in does sell out.
14:20I really like to see AEW succeed.
14:23I don't think they'll ever obviously overtake WWE.
14:25WWE is so worlds ahead of anything AEW could dream of right now.
14:30However, that doesn't mean I don't love the fact that there's a second place for talent
14:33to go to make a really, really good living, make a great income, showcase and provide
14:39talent and show their skills to the world on the big stage.
14:43That's a beautiful thing.
14:44And I love seeing ticket sales like this and success like this for a smaller company because
14:49it really shows that there is more than just WWE.
14:53WWE, legit talent, legit matches, great, great opportunities to see some phenomenal
14:58in-ring action.
14:59So that's all the time we have for this episode.
