00:08I mean, everybody's done it.
00:10So I felt like I got to do it, but then I got to do it even better because why
00:14attempt it if you're going to do the same or less?
00:17So I studied the accent really hard.
00:19Every piece of footage on Pablo, I studied over and over, every recording.
00:24The son, Pablo's real son was the consultant on the show.
00:29And, you know, he's a narrator.
00:31And he also gave me tips on how to be the best Pablo as well.
00:36You don't want to normalize Pablo.
00:38You know, that's not OK.
00:39He's a sociopath.
00:40You know, I mean, we're fascinated by him because of his story, because here's this poor kid from Latin America.
00:47You know, the poverty in Latin America when you're poor is is a whole nother level.
00:51And to become the richest gangster in the history of the world, when he died, he was worth 30 billion
00:59dollars, which is 70 billion dollars today.
01:02So your imagination is cooking on it.
01:05You know, like, how does he how does a man become that powerful?
01:08You want to see this represent, but you don't want to idolize him.
01:12You know, you don't want to normalize him because he was an assassin.
01:18You know, thousands of people died because of him.
01:22What we did want to show was that.
01:25Villains.
01:26Are not black or white, they're gray.
01:29They can still be warm, charismatic.
01:31They can be loving and they could still.
01:35Tell somebody to be assassinated can put put the order on somebody, put the hit on someone without compunction, without
01:42remorse.
01:44So we want to make sure that we saw the demon that he was, but show the show that they
01:49also have a human side.
01:51Because even though he can behind closed doors, he lived in this paranoid world where, you know, what they tell
01:59you as a gangster is don't have family because then you have an Achilles heel.
02:02And that's what happened to me.
02:04He had these two kids, loved them more than anything in the world.
02:06And what Sebastian, Pablo's son told me, he said that in Colombia back in the 80s, Latin fathers did not
02:14hug their children, did not kiss them, did not say I love you.
02:16It was tough love.
02:17That's how he raised un baron.
02:19You know, and he said he hugged them, kissed them in public, said I love you because, you know, he
02:26was always thought that he was going to die.
02:27So he wanted to be as affectionate as possible.
02:29And that changed the whole culture in Colombia.
02:32You know, he showed publicly that this gangster could hug and kiss and say I love you to his son,
02:38that that must be the right way of doing things.
02:40Well, you know, obviously I'm a dad, so I can relate to that part.
02:43I guess that's what we all relate to Pablo Escobar is the family life.
02:48And you know that these aren't, this isn't dialogue.
02:51This isn't made up.
02:52These are real things that got said.
02:54You could tell when you read it.
02:55When I read it, I was like, no, wait a minute.

03:24know, trying to catch me tripping on it, you know, sounding too gringo, too Caribbean or, you know, whatever.
03:30But so I had a coach.
03:32I worked on it so hard.
03:34I've never worked on anything so hard in my life.
03:36You have to get that Pablo hair, you know, that, you know, we got the perfect hair, the 70s porn
03:43stash and La Panza.
03:45Me dieron La Panza también, you know, a little prosthetic to help me, you know.
03:49And I started eating recklessly a little bit, too.
03:51Filming a series is 12 hours a day.
03:53I mean, people think Hollywood is glamorous.
03:56No, you're working 12 hours a day or longer.
03:58So it's really long hours and always away from your family.
04:02So the way I balance it with my family is you can't work as much.
04:05You have to make sure you're not doing too many movies far away from your house.
04:11I did The Odyssey.
04:12My family came with me and stayed with me for a month in Sicily.
04:16And my daughter came with me when we shot in Morocco.
04:19So I spent quality time with them when I'm on the shoot and I try not to work as much
04:24so I can be home.
