00:00i feel like the hair really represents the journey for me like at first when i was in italy i
00:05had
00:05this like everyone around me had like straight hair so i wanted to fit in and i always tried to
00:12like straighten them and like um i don't know i all i almost kind of felt like straight hair was
00:19more elegant some somehow like more classy and it's so wrong and so exactly and i realized later
00:28that since i started to like figure out who i was and doing some research going back to br to
00:33like
00:33reconnect with my roots i just like automatically accepted my curls and so it is a journey and in
00:42malamia video i have the hair sort of like um italian diva from the 60s you know i love italian
00:51old movies i love claudia cardinale anna manani um sophia loren and so i was trying to like imitate
00:59that kind of vibe but to me it's really a journey and that's also why like i'm in this moment
01:05right
01:05now because i feel like it starts from that and then slowly and you see in the next videos my
01:12hair
01:14gets supernatural and that's you know where i'm at now you know okay and i feel like it's very
01:19empowering for women that look like me as well i i didn't mean it um i didn't do it in
01:27a very
01:28you know strategic way but when my first video from colors came out and i had my hair like natural
01:35a lot of girls from the art texted me like hey i'm so happy to see you wearing your hair
01:40natural and
01:41that really represents our beauty standard and i feel like it's it's really cool for young girls
01:49really this album i made it for myself i know it sounds a little maybe egoista but i really made
01:56it for myself i made it to explore like topics and things that were like bothering me that i needed
02:04to face in order to grow and develop and so it's therapy for me it was therapy for me and
02:13and and i remember when i started making it i was like i'm not gonna have like a you know
02:18like
02:20i'm gonna set my intentions but i'm not gonna have already a concept because i need to just like
02:26purge you know i need to write things and then after a while i realized i had these songs that
02:32when
02:32i listen to them i still cry i still feel them and i feel them in a visceral way and
02:38so i was like okay
02:39i think this is what i'm gonna share because it's um a good way for me to introduce myself
02:45as a like a new artist i feel like it's really good to have like a body of work that
02:51kind of tells
02:51where you're coming from and what you're up to and what are your feelings as an artist and then
02:58and second i think it's very empowering you know i'm super proud of myself for making it like
03:06already making the album was a huge step for me you know no one in my family is a musician
03:12like
03:13my family has no idea what i'm doing how this works and so it felt really lonely but at the
03:19same time
03:20i'm super proud they're all kind of letters you know to like italy a letter to my father so the
03:27one
03:27for my dad i sent it to him for example not that he had to approve i also learned that
03:32i can make music
03:33you know that it's a personal thing so i don't really care if anyone else approves or not but
03:39um a funny thing that happened with mala mia is that my friend from italy she called me the other
03:46day and she was like is this stuff about that ex that's like yup and she's like does he know
03:54no i didn't
03:55tell him but it's just like he'll know if he listens to it um yeah you know what surprised me
04:05a lot is
04:05that i was in charge of my own art i didn't know before i feel like i didn't know how
04:13to trust my
04:13instinct before i always felt like someone else may know better than me because they've been doing this
04:19for a longer time but art is not really about that like the cool thing about art is instinct and
04:24just
04:24like making things and uh if you make them it sounds like the instagram quote but if you make them
04:31with
04:32heart and intention and like you know i feel like it always turns out in a good way and so
04:39that was
04:41something that i was shocked about myself i was like wow is angry you went for it and you believed
04:48in it so much that people kind of jumped on the vision and uh that's something that i didn't know
04:54i
04:54was able to do i feel like fashion it's really hard because i was not really into fashion at all
05:01but
05:02since i was a kid i always had to kind of like personalize my stuff because i used to wear
05:08like my
05:08cousin stuff you know she was like oh i this can't fit me anymore you can keep it and so
05:14i had to i
05:15used to cut things and stuff my mom thought i was um ruining everything i think it was just me
05:21expressing
05:22you know um my creativity through clothes and for me it's very empowering like the fact that i can just
05:30wear whatever i want i just wake up and sometimes i don't feel like wearing you know like super cool
05:37stuff
05:38or sometimes i can i just want to feel like i'm that big you know sometimes you're just like yeah
05:46i'm gonna wear a skirt and i'm gonna go to the cds you know like that you don't need to
05:51have like
05:52something to do for it and i feel like turin was so judgmental as an environment growing up that i
06:00always
06:01receive like little comments you know like oh that's a weird that's a weird dress or whatever
06:07and i feel like that kind of created a sort of like you know it empowered me even more and
06:13now i
06:15and now i'm the same it doesn't matter if i'm doing like a red carpet or whatever i just like
06:20wear whatever makes me feel comfortable and i think that's really cool
06:24if you believe you can rock it you can rock it yeah and my mom was really what started like
06:29who
06:30started that you know she always told me like you wear whatever you want nobody can tell you nothing
06:36about what you're wearing you know it's really up to you and i feel like she allowed me to be
06:41whoever
06:42i wanted to be sweet and then one last question uh barack obama included you on the music his music
06:49end of the year playlist yeah did you ever get to like dm him and say thank you or for
06:53any type of
06:55no i'm too shy for that and i also feel like it's such it was such a big deal for
07:01everyone and i woke up
07:03and my friends were texting me like yo you're barack obama and i was like oh yeah that's cool you
07:11know and
07:11i always downplay my own like achievements because that's just you know how i am so i always justified
07:18it i was like oh there must be someone latin and he's like team you know like someone has but
07:24no i
07:25never dm him to say hey thank you hey by the way
07:33i should i should my favorite part of my job is to perform live and to share like directly energy
07:43with
07:44other humans so i managed my manifesting um going to cities i've never been to and singing my songs
07:53there and finding some like um souls that can relate to my soul
07:59you
