00:01I think I'm a very resilient person who is okay with change. I've had a lot of
00:07change thrown at me for the past couple years and my life looks hugely different
00:12than it did when I was, you know, just 16 years old.
00:18I feel really blessed to be able to represent for, you know, my culture which
00:23has always been so important to me and and I felt the same way about Sasha
00:27Calle who I actually watched on Young and the Restless before she was ever
00:30Supergirl. Like I watched her on those telenovelas that she was on, these soap
00:34operas and she's so talented. I adore her truly but you know there's so many we
00:42have ways to go in representation in Hollywood but I do think it's important
00:46to every now and then appreciate how far we've come and where we once were and
00:50when one of us succeeds all of us succeed so it's really just you know
00:54championing every minority who gets to win in this industry where it's very hard to win.
01:03The advice that they gave me was was very genuine and it's hard to be a young woman in
01:07Hollywood. It's very hard and for me I've not found it easy transitioning from my life
01:12in suburban New Jersey to then like having faces your your billboard up in in LA and in
01:18Times Square having your face everywhere and they really just have given me a lot of advice
01:24about advocating for myself and standing up for myself and staying true to me and I really
01:29appreciated that so much from them.
01:33Something that my my tia Rosalba used to bring home a an evil eye bracelet for me from
01:39Barranquilla every time she went so I had like a collection of evil eyes on and I actually get
01:43to wear them in yeah in my rings I wear them I have necklaces of them when I'm Anne and
01:49so uh that
01:50was a pretty cool nod because obviously it's not only in Latin culture that the evil eye is is explored
01:55and and feared and also protection and so that was the thing the onset tutor um who tutored Jack and
02:03kind of like brought him around and made sure that he was doing his schoolwork and stuff she was Greek
02:08and so she was telling me of like the similarities between how we in Latino America see the evil eye
02:13and then in in uh in Greece how they see it as well so it was a pretty cool nod
02:17to to what my my uh
02:19Aunt Rosalba used to bring back from Barranquilla for me.
02:25Nothing can really prep you for it but it did prep me for all of my other films as well
02:30so you know
02:31moving on to a movie like Snow White where you know you're not actually singing to birds you're
02:35singing to puppets who are going to become birds and it's it's one of those things where I felt um
02:40I felt well equipped by trusting my filmmakers and I really trust David who uh who just came with me
02:47with his vision and said trust me it's gonna look awesome you just have to trust what I say.
02:54My mom and my dad are my heroes truly um my my mom you know she sacrificed a lot and
03:01she she you
03:02left her job to come with me and be with me on set of West Side Story because I was
03:06a minor
03:06when I first started working on it and so you know that was a really big sacrifice her job was
03:12really the thing that kind of like kept her leaving the house and doing everything she needed to do and
03:17she was so excited to be back at work and and she left for me and then my dad you
03:22know worked
03:22a worked crazy hours to give my family a really good life and make sure that we had things to
03:28look
03:28forward to and vacations and a roof over our head and food on the table so my parents are my
03:33heroes.
