00:00Hi everybody! Like a lot of y'all, I'm spending my quarantine time cooking a lot and improv-ing
00:08because there's a lot of stuff obviously not available at the supermarket, so I'm just improv-ing.
00:13So in honor of One Day at a Time coming back, one of my favorite shows, whoop whoop, they sent
00:19me
00:19this cafe con leche kit, which apparently you need this coffee, and the cafetera, and I'm going to
00:30attempt to make cafe con leche, Cuban cafe con leche, because it's very different. This is the
00:36cafetera that they sent me. I washed it, and it's a really cool gadget. If you guys haven't used this,
00:42it makes espresso on the stove. It comes with this little filter. Here's the bottom. You put the water
00:48in, and then your espresso comes out on top. And to be true Cuban coffee, you have to have Cuban
00:59coffee, which is cafe bustello, and there's a cafe bustello sugar as well, I believe. So I have looked
01:06up a couple different recipes, and this one seemed the easiest. I've seen recipes with condensed milk,
01:13evaporated milk, regular milk, brown sugar instead of white sugar. So I'm going to do like the simplest
01:19one. That's what I think I'm going to do. Okay, first things first, you take apart your cafetera,
01:24take this little thingy out, and you fill the bottom up with water. This part with water. I filled
01:31it up. So I guess you shouldn't see it through that thing. I don't know. Some of y'all are
01:37going to tell
01:37me, I'm sure, if I'm doing this right or wrong. Then you put the cafe bustello in the filter thing,
01:48and it says you can push it down, but don't pack it. It's not like your espresso machine where you
01:55like have to smash it down. You just make sure that it's full. Pat it just a little. Oh my
02:03God,
02:03I'm making a mess. I already know this is wrong. All right. Then you screw this thing back on.
02:13Okay, I'm going to clean that off. And then you put it on the stove, and it says don't walk
02:18away.
02:18This is a single serving. There's bigger cafetera. This is a single serving. When you set it on the
02:22stove too, because it is really small surface area, make sure the flame isn't heating up your handle,
02:28because then when you go to grab it, it's going to be hot. Okay, while that's cooking, I'm going to
02:32prepare my sugar, which this is the magic part of Cuban coffee. Apparently, if you don't do this
02:38step the way they say, then you're screwed. Está jodido. That's Spanish. I don't even know what I'm
02:43talking about. Oh my God, it's cooking. Okay, it says two to four teaspoons per cup. So I'm only
02:50going to do two. One, two. I'll just show you guys this. Okay, look at this. It's going to splatter.
03:01Ah! Okay, I can't show you. You pour, before it's done making, you pour a little bit of this
03:07into your sugar. Just a dab. Put that back on. Let that finish. Let that finish. And mix your
03:19sugar and your, your sugar and your coffee. Let's be frothy.
03:32Okay, well that, I'm going to turn off my espresso because it's three-fourths full.
03:40Once it's about three-fourths full, you turn it off, take it off the, um, the heat, and then it'll
03:46continue to percolate. So I'm going to do that. Turn that off. Meantime, I'm going to steam my milk.
03:50I like half and half and milk. So I'm going to do a mixture of half and half and milk.
03:55Just so my milk's a little frothier. This looks strong. So I'm going to pour the coffee into my,
04:06um, what is it called? Paste. I think it's called a paste. And you'll see the foam is at the
04:15top. Yay!
04:16Yay! That means I did it right. All right. So I'm going to take my favorite cup.
04:23Okay. I'm going to put my milk at the bottom because that's how that lady did it on the,
04:28on the interweb. I'm going to pour my Cuban coffee in here. Let me get this higher so you guys
04:34can see.
04:42I'm going to mix it. I'm going to mix it. I'm going to mix it. Maybe you shouldn't, but I'm
04:46going to.
04:47It's a nice cafe con leche color, y'all. Can I just say moment of truth?
05:01Oh my God. Oh my God. That is so good. Wow. God, I'm Cuban. I knew it. You guys, I
05:09can do anything.
05:11I can do anything. Oh my, I wish you could taste this. Oh, wow. I probably shouldn't be having this
05:18at 6 p.m. But wow. I don't know, Gloria. I think you got to put me on the show.
05:26Put me in coach.
05:28No, seriously. I just, I just Googled how to make Cuban cafe con leche. You have to say Cuban cafe
05:33con leche.
05:34And the first thing that popped up was a tribute, how to make Cuban coffee cafe con leche.
05:38And it's a wonderful article on instructables.com. And she has all the steps. It's like step-by-step.
