00:00My name is Manuela Barón. I am a sustainability activist and artist and
00:04I'm so excited to be here as one of ARRI's real role models.
00:11To be an ARRI role model is a dream come true. This is the ability to work with such an
00:16amazing
00:16community to create change and to really spread awareness for sustainability.
00:22Some of my role models growing up was actually my dad and growing up my dad was a champion for
00:27Hispanic rights and to be able to see him out with his people really fighting for what he believed in
00:32was something that inspired me to take on my own cause and to be passionate about our planet.
00:37My role model today is Greta Thunberg. I think she's doing an amazing job to really rally
00:42people to care about the planet and to demand for more action and change in our government.
00:48Right now everyone is talking about sustainability so one of the things that you can do to really
00:52look out for a brand that is aligning their words to their true action steps and I think that that's
00:58something that we really see with ARRI with this campaign and the fact that they're investing
01:01in us and giving grants to real change makers. As a Latina it is an honor to be the first
01:08to
01:08represent our group in this role model campaign and to be able to really show us that we have
01:14a voice and we have the ability to create change and we can use that voice to really get a
01:19message
01:19across and for me it's sustainability but for you it might be something else and so get out there
01:25make your voice heard and create change doesn't matter how big or small but you can do it.
01:29So this year what I really want to do is create more art out of trash and really create visuals
01:35that help people understand the problem and the issues and realize that like we are part of the
01:41problem so we need to be part of the solution and so I look forward to really taking action this
01:46year to create change. Some easy ways to get involved is to really start thinking more consciously
01:52so every day you go through your your normal habits you brush your teeth you get your coffee
01:57so maybe you think how can I be more sustainable today maybe that's using a toothbrush made out of
02:03bamboo or bringing your own mug to you know the coffee shop or taking public transportation instead
02:09of driving every single day we have a series of decisions and a series of actions and so asking
02:15yourself what can I do today. My goals for 2020 is to inspire women to take action because it's
02:22intimidating to start you know everyone thinks that you to be sustainable you have to be perfect
02:27but we all start somewhere and a few years ago I was not sustainable at all and so right now
02:32to be on
02:32this journey and to be able to show people that it's okay to try and it's okay to make mistakes
02:37mistakes and that we're in this together and we can really create real change when we work together.
