Transcript
00:00:38Good evening. We're back with four huge matches from the William Hill Premiership.
00:00:43Drama, great goals and storylines everywhere.
00:00:47Many a fiery confrontation between these two on the pitch back in the day.
00:00:51How will it fare tonight?
00:00:52In the sports scene studio, Scott Brown and Andy Halliday with us tonight.
00:00:56No Martin O'Neill in the Celtic dugout for the visit to Kilmarnock following his midweek hospital stay.
00:01:02We wish you well, Martin.
00:01:04How would today compare to the drama the last time these sides met at Rugby Park?
00:01:17What a finish from Tyrese John-Jules.
00:01:25And it's two for Kilmarnock.
00:01:29Tinegdi drags Celtic back into the contest.
00:01:34It's Nugred and Celtic are leveled.
00:01:41And a goal!
00:01:43What a finish!
00:01:44Celtic have done it again!
00:01:46And Celtic have snatched it at the death once more.
00:01:55The smell of freshly cut grass is back at Rugby Park for the first time in over a decade.
00:02:01Kilmarnock have ditched the plastic and invested heavily in their new grass surface.
00:02:06Can they deliver a performance to match in their first home outing of the season?
00:02:10There is no Martin O'Neill in the Celtic dugout as he continues his recovery from minor surgery
00:02:16as the champions look to make it nine wins in a row against Kelly.
00:02:25After conceding four goals in their opener, Kilmarnock changed two at the back.
00:02:29Jamie Brandon is in it right back.
00:02:31And former Rangers defender John Lee Ofeko makes his debut.
00:02:36Shilter-Brown and Kleschenko drop out.
00:02:39One player who might have enjoyed the old Kilmarnock Astro is Kasper Hu,
00:02:43given the rate he scored on Bodo Glimp's plastic pitch.
00:02:46He'll look for his first in green and white as he spearheads Celtic's attack
00:02:50in an unchanged team.
00:02:52Arnott Engels makes his 100th Celtic appearance.
00:02:59New Europe begins at Rugby Park for Kilmarnock.
00:03:03And they start it with a bang of a result against the champions
00:03:11who were effective enough against an impressive Dundee side
00:03:17in their opener at Celtic Park.
00:03:19This is their first away test of the season.
00:03:24Johnston.
00:03:26Clips it forwards.
00:03:27Engels chases.
00:03:29Gets there.
00:03:30Trays it off.
00:03:31Defeco for a Celtic throw-in.
00:03:42Durant.
00:03:44Johnston.
00:03:46For Captain Callum McGregor.
00:03:54Tierney.
00:03:56To Yang's feet.
00:03:59Tierney.
00:04:00Finds Engels.
00:04:01Roots across here.
00:04:03Oh, it's a dangerous one.
00:04:07And Kasper Hu is up and running in a Celtic jersey.
00:04:14Not even 90 seconds on the clock.
00:04:20And the big team.
00:04:21And the big team.
00:04:22Nods in at the back post.
00:04:27Tierney.
00:04:28Straight onto the loose ball.
00:04:30At first it looked as though Engels didn't really catch hold of that cross properly.
00:04:37But it's meat and drink for who scored goals like this week in, week out for Vodovlint.
00:04:47And he's doing it for Celtic now.
00:04:52Carter Vickers goes long.
00:04:55Blue's header.
00:04:59Dancing about.
00:05:00It's Kamarnik through a merge with the ball here.
00:05:04John Jules.
00:05:05Kilti on the wraparound.
00:05:07Kilti.
00:05:08Oh, what a chance that was.
00:05:09And the follow-up.
00:05:11Blocked by Trostate.
00:05:12And Celtic survive.
00:05:15Kamarnik looking to more or less hit straight back.
00:05:19Excellent work from the captain.
00:05:20Kilti.
00:05:21Missed by Hugo.
00:05:24And it is full on the follow-up.
00:05:31Yang.
00:05:33Duran.
00:05:35This is dangerous.
00:05:37Duran!
00:05:40Not too far away.
00:05:43From the Colombian.
00:05:53Forward pass.
00:05:55And it comes to Kilti.
00:05:56Kilti for one all.
00:05:58And he's passed it across the face.
00:06:01He's claiming it took a touch.
00:06:03Good run from the Killy captain.
00:06:07Twice he's popped up in that dangerous position.
00:06:10Is he trying to just bend it in the far corner?
00:06:12And Sanasalo may well have touched that behind.
00:06:14In fact, he did.
00:06:15It's a corner.
00:06:18Out swinger from Kilti.
00:06:20And towards the target.
00:06:22John Jules.
00:06:23And Sinasalo has to tip it over the top.
00:06:27Causing problems with our set-tease routines.
00:06:31As John Jules almost finding the top corner.
00:06:38A brilliant tackle from Kilti for Arnott Engels.
00:06:43Back to Negrin.
00:06:44Off the bar.
00:06:45It's hoot.
00:06:46Saved by Stryak.
00:06:48Tierney.
00:06:49Somehow it stays 1-0.
00:06:52Excellent move.
00:06:53Started by Tierney.
00:06:55Engels.
00:06:55It's Negrin.
00:06:56It's a brilliant save from Stryak.
00:06:59Tips it onto the bar.
00:07:02Johnston's the spare man.
00:07:03Curled forwards.
00:07:05Headed down.
00:07:06Negrin tries to get onto it.
00:07:07Sliding challenge from Tysbola.
00:07:10There's Camilo.
00:07:11Duran into Johnston's path.
00:07:14It's Duran.
00:07:15Miscues.
00:07:16It's Tierney.
00:07:17Stryak to the rescue once more for Pomarna.
00:07:21But Tierney will feel he should probably find one of the corners.
00:07:29Dibbing away.
00:07:30McGregor.
00:07:32Duran for Negrin.
00:07:35And Yang.
00:07:36It's hoot.
00:07:36It's two.
00:07:45Kasper Huot.
00:07:45Kasper Huot.
00:07:47Already a fan favourite at Celtic.
00:07:52Doubles up in the first half of Rugby Park.
00:07:56And it has been coming.
00:07:58De Monaco played well in spells.
00:08:00But they've given Celtic far too many opportunities.
00:08:03Slack in possession.
00:08:04And Negrin finds his fellow Scandinavian.
00:08:09And he picks out the bottom corner.
00:08:12Ruthlessly.
00:08:15Stryak.
00:08:16Could do nothing about that one.
00:08:19And it's come on at nil.
00:08:21Celtic two.
00:08:27McGregor.
00:08:28To Yang.
00:08:30Finds Negrin.
00:08:32Silky stuff from Celtic.
00:08:33Who wants a first half hat-trick?
00:08:35Duran.
00:08:37Ticks out the back post.
00:08:39And who does have a first half hat-trick?
00:08:44The stuff of dreams for Celtic's record signing.
00:08:55The stuff of nightmares for Neil McCann and Kilmarnock.
00:09:00Utterly ruthless.
00:09:01Yang popping up in midfield.
00:09:03Wonderful threaded pass for Negrin.
00:09:06Duran stays onside.
00:09:08And he knows if he just puts it into the six-yard box.
00:09:11Kasper Huot will be lurking.
00:09:14Waiting.
00:09:15It's another simple finish.
00:09:22The Celtic's new number nine is off to a flyer.
00:09:32This game surely well beyond Kilmarnock's reach.
00:09:36But can they give their fans more of a positive showing?
00:09:41Oh, it's given straight to Benjamin Negrin by Stryak.
00:09:46My words.
00:09:50A complete gift.
00:09:54And Celtic scored within two minutes of the first half.
00:09:59They've done so again in the second, but they have had to do no work for it.
00:10:04Max Stryak has been brilliant with his hands.
00:10:07It's been abysmal at times with his feet.
00:10:10None more so than right there.
00:10:12Straight to Negrin.
00:10:15And Celtic's top scorer of last season was never going to pass up.
00:10:19Such an invitation.
00:10:21Passes it into the top corner.
00:10:23And for the second week running and the start of the new league season,
00:10:26Kilmarnock have conceded four.
00:10:30Celtic win it.
00:10:33Moves on his bike straight away.
00:10:36Waits for support.
00:10:37Has it taken away from him?
00:10:38Yang, though, on the follow-up.
00:10:40Now it's Duran.
00:10:41Duran lets it get onto the left foot.
00:10:45And crashes the crossbar.
00:10:48Well, this could be anything.
00:10:49It's Duran.
00:10:51Hicks the frame of the goal.
00:10:58Nice football from Killy.
00:11:01Kilty.
00:11:02John Jules.
00:11:04Now it's Lowry.
00:11:05And across the back here.
00:11:07And Killy have one back.
00:11:09Michael Schoening-Larsen finds the net.
00:11:13Spoils Celtic's green sheet.
00:11:16And the Killy fans have something to cheer about.
00:11:20And it's a nicely worked move combining down that right-hand side.
00:11:24Kilty and John Jules at the heart of it.
00:11:27And Schoening-Larsen just waiting, waiting, waiting.
00:11:30The ball to come across.
00:11:33Slick first-time finish.
00:11:36Right into the corner.
00:11:42Suddenly Celtic are countering on Killy.
00:11:46To Necti.
00:11:49Comes inside.
00:11:51Goes back outside.
00:11:53Stands it to the back post for Hu.
00:11:55Hits the post.
00:11:56The spectacular from Yang.
00:11:58Is deflected wide.
00:12:02Kasper Hu.
00:12:04Easily had five goals in this game.
00:12:09So close to his fourth.
00:12:16To Necti.
00:12:18To N-Goals.
00:12:20To Necti.
00:12:26Celtic hit the corner.
00:12:28Despite Brandon's protests.
00:12:32Marco Hara.
00:12:34Former St. Louisville captain.
00:12:36He's going to come on.
00:12:37There's Bailey Rice.
00:12:40He's going to come on.
00:12:48He's going to come on.
00:12:50He's going to come on.
00:12:52He's going to come on.
00:12:53Engels.
00:12:53Trusty.
00:12:54Tierney.
00:12:56Still.
00:12:57The danger isn't gone.
00:12:59And Luke McCowan.
00:13:01With his first touch.
00:13:04Brings up Celtic's fifth goal.
00:13:08He's bewildered.
00:13:10He's bewildered.
00:13:11Come on.
00:13:11It certainly work.
00:13:13As they fail to get the ball away in the centre of the box.
00:13:26And Engels with the outside of the boot.
00:13:28Finds James Forrest.
00:13:28What a touch that is.
00:13:29It's James Forrest.
00:13:32Flashes it wide.
00:13:34As he looks to score for the 18th consecutive top flight season.
00:13:46Well, it might be a new year at Rugby Park.
00:13:49But this afternoon was all about Poo.
00:13:53Celtic's record signing.
00:13:55With a scintillating performance.
00:13:58A first half hat-trick.
00:13:59To get his Celtic career well and truly up and running.
00:14:05Finished.
00:14:06On at one.
00:14:07Celtic five.
00:14:11There was a lot in there.
00:14:12Look, I love the creativity.
00:14:13We created a lot.
00:14:15But probably the biggest thing for me was the mentality.
00:14:17We started this game at 100%.
00:14:21Like full throttle.
00:14:22And we never really came off it.
00:14:24We created big chances near the end.
00:14:27Defended when we had to.
00:14:28If you had to sprint 60, 70 yards, they did it.
00:14:31They were really good without the ball.
00:14:33I thought the back four, the two in front of them.
00:14:34Arna and Cal.
00:14:36I know all the headlines will go to the attackers.
00:14:38I thought those four, the back four, the goalkeeper and the two in front.
00:14:42I thought they were excellent.
00:14:43So, yeah, it was pretty good.
00:14:45As a coach and a manager, you've got full belief in your team.
00:14:47In what you want us to be.
00:14:49What you see in training.
00:14:52I was confident today that we'd perform.
00:14:55We'd been punished with those mistakes.
00:14:56I said, after the first goal, we really responded.
00:14:59It's not a game changer losing an early goal.
00:15:01No, losing a man is a game changer.
00:15:04But we did.
00:15:04We showed a bit of character to come in.
00:15:05We showed the bravery to play.
00:15:07We carved out some opportunities.
00:15:09I think we were a better team, actually, in the early part of the game.
00:15:12But Celtic have the quality that if you do make mistakes, they're liable to punish you.
00:15:16And that's how it turned out.
00:15:18A result in a performance that would undoubtedly have cheered up Martin O'Neill after a tough, tough week.
00:15:25Scott Brown.
00:15:27We were there for Casper Hu's debut against Dundee.
00:15:30And he missed a few chances.
00:15:32How much better was it from him today?
00:15:34Yeah, I thought his link-up play was exceptional.
00:15:37And he got a rude awakening against Dundee with how aggressive they were on the front foot.
00:15:42So I think that's probably helped him.
00:15:43But see, to get the three goals is brilliant.
00:15:46And we talked about his link-up play, his movement.
00:15:48But the centre-half, I don't know what he's doing.
00:15:52And it's fantastic movement.
00:15:54And it's a lovely weighted pass.
00:15:55Brilliant for angles as well.
00:15:57And you can see all good strikers.
00:15:58They've obviously worked on that a lot because it's a common theme all the way throughout the game with who's
00:16:04movement.
00:16:05They're obviously knowing that the two full-backs are going to go up nice and high.
00:16:09But Ifeco, I'm not actually sure what he's doing.
00:16:13But it's a fantastic finish as well.
00:16:15He's alive in the box.
00:16:16And that's what you want to see for your striker.
00:16:18And this is what we're talking about, Andy.
00:16:20We're talking about Ifeco here.
00:16:21Look at his body shape.
00:16:22He's actually not even defensively understanding where he should be.
00:16:26He's just running towards the ball.
00:16:27He sells his cell.
00:16:28There's no defensive incident.
00:16:29Your job in that scenario is to try and keep Duran down the line as best as you can.
00:16:34But like Scott says, Johnny Ifeco's body shape actually allows that three-yard slip into Benjamin Negan.
00:16:39And then from there on in, I've got to say all afternoon long, I thought Celtic were absolutely scintillating in
00:16:44the final third.
00:16:45But he gets done there as well.
00:16:46Look at his reaction to get back in.
00:16:49Doesn't really want to defend, but where's who again?
00:16:51Back post, continuously working on it.
00:16:53I think it's something obviously Sean, Martin and the lads have worked on in this game because coming from him,
00:16:58you can see Brandon went in.
00:17:00And he's done him unbelievable.
00:17:01Ran in, checked off and went all good finish, all good strikers.
00:17:05Want that finish for a yard out.
00:17:07Even you would score that, Jonathan.
00:17:08Didn't need that long to get used to the grass, did he?
00:17:11Just a wee minute.
00:17:13And there was always talk about scoring a lot of goals on artificial surfaces.
00:17:18Because obviously he'd come from Bodo Glimp before his £11 million transfer to Celtic.
00:17:22And his record on normal grass maybe hadn't been quite so good, but he definitely put it to rights there.
00:17:28Of course, it was artificial surface not that long ago at Rugby Park.
00:17:31But it wasn't just his goal scoring today, was it?
00:17:33You were impressed with his overall game.
00:17:35Yeah, I think it's very easy.
00:17:36He plays a striker after a hat-trick.
00:17:38But for me, it wasn't just about his goals today.
00:17:40I thought his overall game was absolutely excellent all afternoon long.
00:17:44And for me, you look at whether he had to be a target for Celtic and he had to hold
00:17:48the ball up and bring people into play.
00:17:49Exactly like this clip here.
00:17:50I thought it was really tidy when he'd done that.
00:17:52And then look at the quality.
00:17:53It released Durant on the right-hand side with the outside of the foot.
00:17:56But it was all different types of link-up.
00:17:58It was this one.
00:17:59It was flicks around the corner and then going again to receive the next one.
00:18:02Like I said, it was holding the ball up, bringing people into play.
00:18:05It was ones like this again where you're popping it off one touch and then again try to occupy the
00:18:09centre-halves.
00:18:10And as Scott says, you know, there's no doubt whatsoever.
00:18:12He was frustrated by a lot of the aspects he's done deep performance.
00:18:15But, I mean, this had to be something that Celtic worked on throughout the week because the amount of times
00:18:20that Kasper Hu's movement was to drag a Comarnock defender underneath the ball and then spin off to the back
00:18:26post.
00:18:27We've already seen him get two goals from it, but he could have probably had an R2 or R3 off
00:18:31it as well.
00:18:31I think that's probably another one that he's going to be disappointed with, that he's not might as well put
00:18:35that in the back of the net.
00:18:36But it's got to be said, his movement was excellent.
00:18:38I thought Celtic's service for him all afternoon was excellent as well.
00:18:41Are you calling it already, Andy? Is he going to be the top scorer in the league this season?
00:18:46Well, I tipped Longshank on two weeks ago and he's already winning 3-0, so I'm very good at changing
00:18:52my predictions, though, so I don't mind changing them around.
00:18:54You jumped off a heart strain at just the right time at the end of last season, if I recall.
00:18:57Very good.
00:18:59Max Stryak, he had a couple of moments in this match, Scott, which were actually quite impressive.
00:19:03But this match will be remembered from his point of view for all the wrong reasons, won't it?
00:19:07Yeah, to be fair, it's the start of the second half and Neely's went in. Team top, 3-0 down.
00:19:12Make sure you keep it plain and simple. And a minute into the second half as well, Max does this.
00:19:17And there is no need whatsoever to try and pass. I don't even know where he's passing it.
00:19:22Negrin's not really moved. It's howler of the season so far. He'll be disappointed with his sell there.
00:19:27But a minute into the game, and this as well, defending first and second phase.
00:19:33You can see all the Kilmarnock players standing. Luke's just on, fresh, wants to move, and he anticipates where the
00:19:38ball's going to go.
00:19:39Rings on him, he's standing on him, and then Luke gets to the opposite side of him, wins the ball.
00:19:43And look, it's a great finish for there.
00:19:45Yeah, a resounding victory in the end for Celtic, obviously.
00:19:48And we did wonder, Andy, just how angry Neil McCann was going to be with this scoreline performance, etc.
00:19:55Maybe the sting slightly drawn by the fact that his side did at least get a goal. It was a
00:20:00fine goal, actually.
00:20:02Yeah, I think his assessment was pretty fair after the game.
00:20:04And for me, I don't know if Scott agrees, that's as good as I've seen Celtic domestically for a long
00:20:09period of time.
00:20:11And even though Celtic were so good, I think Neil McCann and Kilmarnock would be disappointed with the manner of
00:20:15the goals they concede.
00:20:16But what we're seeing here for Kilmarnock's goal, there was passages of play within the game where Kilmarnock in possession
00:20:21did look good at times.
00:20:23And for me, they built this one all the way up from Max Stryak, some of the combination play, one
00:20:26-touch football.
00:20:27And it's not the best set, you've got to say, from Lowry, but it's a brilliant finish for Sean and
00:20:32Larson, just to guide into the far post.
00:20:34Kilmarnock's issues at this moment in time is off the ball.
00:20:36So, and any time Kilmarnock on the ball and attacked and they lost it in dangerous areas, because they commit
00:20:42so many bodies forward,
00:20:43how quickly Celtic then sprung that into an attack was alarming.
00:20:47Because, I mean, it was five goals, it could have been a lot more.
00:20:50Yeah, Scott, for you, how much did the way Kilmarnock sort of set up for this game play into Celtic's
00:20:56hands in the end?
00:20:57Yeah, I think they've watched Dundee go man to mark and get after Celtic and be super aggressive.
00:21:04And Sean and Martin talked about the second half performance, the tempo, and the tempo's kicked on.
00:21:09And I agree with Andy on that, it's definitely the best I've seen Celtic.
00:21:12And you can see the new lads coming into the team, starting to gel, starting to really understand the other
00:21:16players as well.
00:21:17It was always going to take time, it's not going to happen overnight.
00:21:19Kasper was only in two days before they played against Dundee.
00:21:22So, they've had a good week's training now, they've got a little bit more understanding of each other as well.
00:21:27So, that by far has been the best quality performance that I've seen,
00:21:32because the pace they played it and the aggressiveness off the ball was huge.
00:21:35How much change, Scott, do you still expect at Celtic before the transfer window closes at the end of the
00:21:41month?
00:21:42Who knows? Speculations everywhere.
00:21:44Everyone's leaving, everyone's coming in, there's bids for them.
00:21:46But that's what top quality teams have got to deal with.
00:21:49You've got to deal with offers, like we talked about Rangers having offers.
00:21:52Celtic having offers for players, it's part and parcel of the game.
00:21:56And you just hope the recruitment in the background is going to make sure that if one goes out,
00:21:59one comes in and it's a quick replacement.
00:22:01It's not always that easy, but you're just hoping there's going to be more bodies coming in,
00:22:05because the way it is looking at this moment in time, there'll be a couple leaving at Celtic.
00:22:09Yep, Celtic hugely impressive today.
00:22:12Let's move on after the six-goal shellacking from Benfica.
00:22:15How would Hearts respond for the visit of Dundee United?
00:22:19Commentary comes from Andrew Petrie.
00:22:23Four defeats from four games for Wouter Franken so far as Hearts head coach.
00:22:28Today already feels like a must-win for the new man.
00:22:31How can his side respond to that 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Benfica on Thursday night?
00:22:37United, meanwhile, come on to this in a relative high after the 1-1 draw against Rangers on the opening
00:22:41day.
00:22:43Frankenhans first starts to French midfielder Tom Moreno and winger Josh McPake.
00:22:47They are two of five changes.
00:22:49Jamie McCart, Sabah Kerjota and Amadou Bassi also start.
00:22:52Calvin Miller drops the left-back.
00:22:54Blair Spittel wears the armband.
00:22:57Just one change for Jim Goodwin's Dundee United.
00:23:00Australian Daniel Benny, who qualifies for Scotland, makes a first start.
00:23:04He replaces Australian countryman Zach Sapsword in the starting line-up.
00:23:14A throw from United, Tate trying to lift that over the top, almost found its way through.
00:23:20Dylan Tate in the armband again, just his second Dundee United League appearance,
00:23:26but Ross Graham is on the bench, so Tate steps up as vice-captain.
00:23:32Harts look to play this out from the back, eventually McEntee has to try and go long.
00:23:40Harts up on this back, Claudio Braga bringing it forward.
00:23:45Still going to move away from Tynecastle.
00:23:48Inside to Tom Renault, who looks too shape to shoot,
00:23:52and oh, that's absolutely brilliant from Tom Renault!
00:23:56C'est magnifique from the Frenchman!
00:24:01His first start in Maroon, and only four minutes in,
00:24:07he has scored with an absolute rocket from all of 30 yards!
00:24:14Harts desperately needed a fast start in this game, they've got just that!
00:24:21He must be pretty happy with how his side had begun.
00:24:24as Miller whips it in.
00:24:27Headed away.
00:24:29Goes up to Claudio Tenna.
00:24:33And Bassey.
00:24:35Against Benny.
00:24:37Whips it in, oh, there's an appeal for handball there.
00:24:40United eventually get it away.
00:24:42Harts still appealing.
00:24:45Hard to tell from that angle, admittedly.
00:24:53Kevin Wachos on, side defend again.
00:24:57And the whip's in, oh, Jamie McCartt's gone down, another big appeal from Hearts.
00:25:01Just moments after the first.
00:25:04Kevin Clancy...
00:25:06...delaying the game by the looks of it.
00:25:07Jamie McCartt is adamant he was fouled there.
00:25:12Well, it does look to be the case,
00:25:14and Kevin Clancy is coming across to the monitor.
00:25:17He'll have a good look at this, it's Daniel Benny.
00:25:20There's two hands around Jamie McCart.
00:25:24The defender trying to get on the end of that Calvin Miller cross.
00:25:31And it looks like Kevin Clancy has made up his mind.
00:25:34It will be a penalty.
00:25:37Hearts gifted the opportunity to double their lead.
00:25:42It will be Calvin Miller who took a few penalties for Falkirk.
00:25:50And he puts it straight down the middle.
00:25:53His first Hearts goal.
00:25:57After 12 minutes, Hearts have a 2-0 lead at Tynecastle.
00:26:03Out of rank inside.
00:26:06Already looking like they might be on their way
00:26:08to a first victory under the Belgian.
00:26:11Plenty to play.
00:26:13Yet...
00:26:14McPake.
00:26:16His first start after that cameo against Benfica.
00:26:19Obasi has lunged into that challenge.
00:26:22Right in front of the referee as well.
00:26:25It was needless.
00:26:26It's just going to be a booking for the Frenchman.
00:26:32Looked.
00:26:33Gainley though.
00:26:35An awkward first touch.
00:26:37As he tried to rescue the ball.
00:26:39He catches Bert Esselink.
00:26:41Just a yellow.
00:26:44United looking to respond here.
00:26:46Jesse Randall can get onto this.
00:26:49Clips it to the back post.
00:26:50Headed back in by Benny.
00:26:51There's Lachlan Rose, and it's headed away.
00:26:54Jamie McCart throwing himself in front of the header.
00:27:01Decent chance for Lachlan Rose,
00:27:03who of course scored that goal against Rangers.
00:27:09Tate, nice touch.
00:27:11Lovely pass as well.
00:27:12Out to Jesse Randall.
00:27:14Up against Altona.
00:27:16Almost left the ball behind him, but now he cuts it back.
00:27:18It might drop for Dylan Tate.
00:27:19Blocked by Jamie McCart.
00:27:21There's another shout for handball.
00:27:24Those hearts try and bring it away.
00:27:28United not out of this by any means.
00:27:31Where did this strike McCart?
00:27:33Does look to hit his arm, but it's down by his side.
00:27:40Braga flicks on.
00:27:42United hit it again, although Tate now
00:27:45into the challenge against Savakuriota.
00:27:50Again, that was right in front of the referee,
00:27:52who doesn't look like he's going to his pocket.
00:27:56Dylan Tate might get a bit lucky there.
00:28:01With the corner, trying to find McCart.
00:28:04Headed away.
00:28:06Player spittle.
00:28:08The captain's armband in the absence of Harry Milne.
00:28:12Renault wins it back for Bassi.
00:28:14Goes for goal himself.
00:28:16Jack Walton had to get down well.
00:28:19The chant's not gone.
00:28:20McPake.
00:28:21Into Bassi.
00:28:23Turns.
00:28:24Renault plays it to Braga.
00:28:26This is lovely from Harris, but it doesn't have the finish to match.
00:28:28As Renault skies it on the follow-up.
00:28:32It was Braga who hit the woodwork.
00:28:36Still looking for his first goal in this campaign.
00:28:41Lovely build-up from Hartz.
00:28:44Braga on the swivel.
00:28:46Renault always leading back.
00:28:52Dylan Tate.
00:28:53Ready to put this in for United.
00:28:56Clips it all the way to the back.
00:28:58Free header.
00:28:58Could come for Lachlan Rose.
00:29:00Oh, it's headed over the bar.
00:29:01And it's the man who got the goal.
00:29:04Tom Renault.
00:29:07The Hartz fans still want to know about their new signing.
00:29:10He can score from distance.
00:29:11He can do his defensive duties as well.
00:29:16Ferry with the long throw.
00:29:18United keen to get the next goal in this match.
00:29:21Rose keeps it alive.
00:29:22Sapsford goes for it.
00:29:23He goes down.
00:29:25Another appeal for a penalty.
00:29:27But Kevin Clancy not interested.
00:29:29This is brilliant from Rose to keep it alive.
00:29:33Sapsford goes for the ball and maybe McPake just nudges him out the way.
00:29:43Notted down by Braga.
00:29:44Lovely touch from Renault to take him away from Sapsford.
00:29:48Hartz breaking forward.
00:29:50Curiota.
00:29:50He's got Altona on the underlap.
00:29:52He goes inside for Braga.
00:29:54Oh, he finds the finish!
00:29:58Claudio Braga!
00:30:01Might that be his final goal in Maroon?
00:30:05Hartz fans savour in every moment of watching the Portuguese forwards.
00:30:11He's been linked with the move away all summer.
00:30:13Hartz have named their prize, eight to ten million apparently.
00:30:17He's been worth his weight in goals so far.
00:30:21And he puts Hartz 3-0 up and sets them on the way to all three points.
00:30:27Miller.
00:30:28He's got Bassey outside him.
00:30:30He goes for goal himself.
00:30:33Hartz still have it, Braga trying to work it to Blair Spittel.
00:30:36Comes out to McPake instead.
00:30:40Plays it to Bassey on the one-two.
00:30:43And then whips it to Curiota.
00:30:46Oh, he's skinned Ferry!
00:30:48But Walton comes out and makes the save.
00:30:51Brilliant from Hartz, little Albadian.
00:30:54Just his second start for the club in his second season at them now.
00:31:00Did Ferry all ends up there.
00:31:02Put Walton out quickly.
00:31:06Benny chasing against Miller.
00:31:10Sapsford.
00:31:11Drops inside to Tate anyway.
00:31:14United building.
00:31:15This could come through for Benny McCart on the tackle.
00:31:17Comes to Sapsford.
00:31:19And he just gets it wrong.
00:31:21It sat up awkwardly for the Australian.
00:31:24Jamie McCart congratulated by his goalkeeper.
00:31:27That was a really important intervention.
00:31:32McPake.
00:31:34Back to Miller.
00:31:36McCart who is of course deputising for the suspended Stuart Findlay.
00:31:41Lots of appeal to have that red card rescinded.
00:31:44Unsuccessful.
00:31:46As McCart finds Pierre-Landri Kabori.
00:31:49Fires it out wide to find McPake.
00:31:53Assesses his options.
00:31:55Plays a one-two with Braga!
00:31:58Brilliant from Hartz.
00:31:59A fantastic fourth.
00:32:01It has been the perfect response from Wouter Franken's men.
00:32:08Heavily beaten on Thursday night.
00:32:10On Sunday afternoon they find themselves four goals ahead.
00:32:15And it's a first goal in Maroon for Josh McPake.
00:32:19He had talks with Wouter Franken through the week about his place in the Hartz squad.
00:32:25He might have cemented a place in the starting line-up with that goal.
00:32:29Brilliant link-up with Braga.
00:32:31Brilliant finish.
00:32:34And Jim Goodwin, not a happy man.
00:32:37Some Dundee United fans have seen enough.
00:32:39Their side haven't been terrible this afternoon.
00:32:41But they've not been clinical.
00:32:43Hartz have.
00:32:46Kabori.
00:32:47To Kuryota. Hartz want more here.
00:32:51Thinks about the cross Kuryota.
00:32:53Plays a pass to Kabori.
00:32:54Oh, that's a lovely flick round the corner for Spittel.
00:32:56The ball tries to find Braga.
00:32:59Almost a fifth.
00:33:00But for that Dundee United intervention.
00:33:05And that just shows how Wouter Franken wants his side to play.
00:33:08They're not taking their foot off the gas.
00:33:14Kuryota, that's a risky back pass.
00:33:16McCartney's caught.
00:33:18Dundee United have the ball, Braga gives it away,
00:33:20and Tate slips in Sapsford.
00:33:21Big chance for United!
00:33:23And it goes.
00:33:24Begging.
00:33:26Sapsford got his head up,
00:33:28tried to find Mitsuko at the back post.
00:33:30But there won't even be a consolation for United.
00:33:32It remains 4-0.
00:33:35Really great.
00:33:36Also happy for the players,
00:33:38because they worked hard for this.
00:33:42They didn't get what they deserved
00:33:43maybe in the last games, a few games.
00:33:47But again, they kept going,
00:33:49and they stand up every time.
00:33:51Also today, you saw the confidence growing during the game,
00:33:54and I'm happy to see that they tried to play,
00:33:57and that the mentality, the team spirit stayed in the team,
00:34:00and that they won also the clean sheet.
00:34:02So, yeah, I'm really happy.
00:34:03For people who maybe weren't at the game today,
00:34:07would look at the score line and think that Hart's
00:34:09given us a right going over,
00:34:11but the reality of the situation is we had plenty of the game.
00:34:15In the first half, I didn't think there was a great deal between the two teams.
00:34:19Tom Renaud's got that type of quality.
00:34:21He struck a great ball from 40 yards.
00:34:25That's why we spoke to him in the summer,
00:34:27and that's why we tried to bring him to Dundee United.
00:34:29The second goal is really disappointing.
00:34:32This day and age, you don't get away with pulling a jersey in the box from a set play.
00:34:38VAR are always going to look at it, and unfortunately, that's went against us.
00:34:41So, 2-0, we've given ourselves a mountain to climb.
00:34:44The reality of the situation is,
00:34:48Hart's have hit the target on seven occasions today, scored four goals.
00:34:52We've not managed to hit the target once, and you can't win games of football like that.
00:34:56There was no Alex Kizridis today.
00:34:58We believe he may be on his way.
00:35:00What can you tell us about that?
00:35:01The club accepted a bit,
00:35:04so I think it's a good deal for the club, a good deal for him.
00:35:07He came in for nothing and goes out, but a good deal.
00:35:10This is football, this is transfer window,
00:35:12and we focus on the players who are here.
00:35:14I wish them for sure all the best,
00:35:15because he's a great player, but he's also a great person.
00:35:19This is part of football.
00:35:22And Edinburgh Festival of Football from Hearts today.
00:35:26Andy Halliday, after four straight defeats,
00:35:29how much did they need that today?
00:35:31Yeah, I think they needed a win.
00:35:33I think they needed a certain type of performance as well,
00:35:35and I think that clean sheet is massive for Hearts,
00:35:38because I think there's been a lot of questions in terms of,
00:35:40you can see a lot of partners are playing,
00:35:42a lot of stuff going forward has been pretty impressive at times,
00:35:44but defensively, I think they've looked really suspect over the previous four games.
00:35:48There also has to be a bit of realism about some of the opposition they faced,
00:35:52obviously a double-header against Dom Graz,
00:35:54and with Fika, away from home is obviously not an easy task either.
00:35:58So, I think it just shows you, when you're playing to anyone domestically,
00:36:02how important a fast start is.
00:36:03You know, Celtic's going just after a minute,
00:36:05Hearts going after four minutes, and both of them are back after that.
00:36:08Yeah, what a start it was, Scott.
00:36:10I mean, Tom Renault, apparently,
00:36:11Dunne United wanted to sign him in the summer.
00:36:13He opted for Hearts, and you can see why.
00:36:16No wonder United wanted to sign him.
00:36:18Good player, fantastic strike as well.
00:36:20And, like, brilliant from Braga, early doors,
00:36:23but it's all about the strike.
00:36:25I'm probably thinking he's not shooting for you here,
00:36:27if I'm a midfielder.
00:36:29I've closed them down, but it's 35 yards out,
00:36:33it's some strike.
00:36:33It's brilliant.
00:36:34Sometimes, you know what,
00:36:35you've got to give credit to the strike,
00:36:39and you take that one, Jim Goodwin,
00:36:42as he says before, fantastic strike,
00:36:43he knows that Tom can do that,
00:36:45but it's the second goal that all annoy Jim.
00:36:48And that's the one he says,
00:36:49at this day and age, you can't get away with any sort of pulling,
00:36:52and it's not that he's had one tug,
00:36:54he's had two tugs to try and stop Jamie McCart.
00:36:57I was just wondering how much VAR would have had a fuel day
00:36:59when you two were on the pitch together.
00:37:00That's when we retired, Andy.
00:37:02Just in time.
00:37:04VAR needs to come in here now and then.
00:37:06Well, there's no KMI panel anymore,
00:37:08so you've got a trial by sports team this evening,
00:37:11we'll have to do the trick.
00:37:12Andy, your view first and foremost on this.
00:37:16Was it the correct decision?
00:37:18Daniel Benny with the tug, it looks like.
00:37:20Yeah, listen, I think it is,
00:37:22and I think Scott just mentioned it there.
00:37:24I think there's two goals at it,
00:37:26but as soon as Jamie McCart gets goal side,
00:37:29and the ball's coming in the vicinity that he can go and attack,
00:37:32and Benny's still got a hold of his jersey,
00:37:35then I think it obviously gives the referee a decision to make.
00:37:37I'm not a big fan of how Jamie McCart flings himself to the floor,
00:37:40it must be said,
00:37:41but I think we've seen a couple of examples last year
00:37:43that sometimes when you're honest and you stay on your feet,
00:37:45you don't get given the decisions.
00:37:47Kevin Clancy's been asked to come to the monitor
00:37:49and have a second look,
00:37:49and I think once you see,
00:37:50not only does he have one go at it,
00:37:52but as soon as Jamie McCart gets goal side,
00:37:54and he's still got that kind of prolonged pull of his jersey,
00:37:57I don't really think he has an option after that.
00:37:59Scott, we'll see some other big contentious decisions later on the sports scene,
00:38:03but for you, was that call the right call?
00:38:06Yeah, definitely right call,
00:38:08I think Jamie's movement as well,
00:38:09looks like he's going back post,
00:38:11checks his run,
00:38:12comes in front,
00:38:12and it's just a natural tug,
00:38:14and I'm delighted for Calvin Muller as well,
00:38:16because he was fantastic for the last three,
00:38:18four years at Falkirk,
00:38:20and for him to go to Hearts,
00:38:21and now got his goal,
00:38:22and hopefully he can hit the ground running from now on,
00:38:25playing left back as well today,
00:38:26which is a little bit different for him.
00:38:28Claudio Braga,
00:38:29he's such a huge player for Hearts, obviously, Andy,
00:38:33and listen to the commentary there,
00:38:35you know, he's been linked with moves all summer,
00:38:37figures quoted like best part of £10 million,
00:38:40to prize him away from Hearts, bandied about,
00:38:42do you think that's realistic?
00:38:43I mean, he was excellent again today,
00:38:46a couple of assists as well as his goal.
00:38:49Yeah, well, I think,
00:38:49I mean, Elijah Jersh went for £7 million,
00:38:52Claudio Braga finished as the PFA player of the year last year,
00:38:54so I don't see any reason why Hearts can't put on a price tag like that,
00:38:59it'll be very interesting to see if there's shooters out there for him,
00:39:02I think obviously a couple of clubs in France,
00:39:04Celtic have been previously linked,
00:39:05but something that's really stood out to me,
00:39:07with out of Franken's hearts so far,
00:39:08is how fluid they are,
00:39:09and they're moving,
00:39:10they play with a lot of intensity,
00:39:11a lot of pace,
00:39:12and that's,
00:39:13I mean, that's the words that I use to describe Claudio Braga,
00:39:16and it's not the cleanest kind of set-up,
00:39:18when he's first touching,
00:39:19it's a little bit of a ricochet that falls perfectly into his feet,
00:39:23but the finish is excellent,
00:39:24sometimes,
00:39:25I know from a defender's point of view,
00:39:27if a stout goes to my legs,
00:39:28sometimes I'm bewoning saying it's lucky,
00:39:30but the amount of times that that's by design,
00:39:33by attackers,
00:39:33when it's almost that snapshot,
00:39:34and they know that defenders are going to try and overextend,
00:39:36and as soon as it goes to a defender's legs like that,
00:39:38it almost gives a goal of no chance,
00:39:40because they're a bit unsighted at that present moment,
00:39:43so I think it was a huge opportunity for Hearts to go off the mark today,
00:39:46they managed to do so,
00:39:47I think last year as well,
00:39:48there was a big onus on Claudio Braga and Lorne Shacklin to score goals,
00:39:51but that's five goals in the league so far,
00:39:53five different scorers,
00:39:54so I think it was something that Hearts needed today.
00:39:56Scott, when Josh McPeak signed for Hearts,
00:39:58you kind of wondered where he would fit in,
00:39:59would he be starting or off the bench,
00:40:01but what a fantastic goal he gets here.
00:40:04Yeah, definitely,
00:40:05I've seen him a lot last year,
00:40:06and it was fantastic in the Championship,
00:40:08and I wasn't 100% sure of where he was going to play today,
00:40:11having Calvin in there,
00:40:11but this is fantastic,
00:40:13and it's not just by Josh as well,
00:40:15well, it's with Claudio Braga as well,
00:40:18fantastically,
00:40:18but it's his movement,
00:40:20Rollins will be a little bit disappointed,
00:40:22because I don't think he's thinking about the 1-2,
00:40:24it's a great touch,
00:40:25and he wants to come inside,
00:40:27and you know as soon as he comes inside on that right foot,
00:40:30it's going in that far away corner,
00:40:31he'd done it so many times last year,
00:40:33and he was brilliant for St Johnson,
00:40:35they pushed him obviously for promotion,
00:40:36and now he's getting the benefit of not that many starts,
00:40:39but now he can see his quality shining through,
00:40:41as the manager had a talk with him during the week,
00:40:44which has obviously set him what he wants defensively,
00:40:46but also offensively as well.
00:40:48Yeah, it's great to see them playing so well down the left-hand side.
00:40:51Andy, just in terms of this Benfica match on Thursday,
00:40:54what's it going to be like for Hearts,
00:40:55would you say, at Tyne Castle?
00:40:58I mean, there's almost a free hit,
00:41:00because there's certainly not any expectation that
00:41:02A, obviously Hearts can get through the tie,
00:41:04but B, they could get a positive result,
00:41:06because I thought on Thursday,
00:41:08I think Benfica showed that when they get the ball
00:41:10in certain type of areas,
00:41:11they've got so much quality, so much pace,
00:41:13and I think even though Hearts played well at times with the ball,
00:41:17I thought off the ball,
00:41:18I thought they were exposed time and time again,
00:41:19which is only natural,
00:41:20I think that would happen to probably Rangers and Celtic as well,
00:41:23given the quality of Benfica,
00:41:25but I think what's probably not ideal is your place to them,
00:41:28that's the Champions League,
00:41:29you drop down to Europa League and get a tougher draw against Benfica,
00:41:32and then even if they drop down to the Conference League,
00:41:34Rapid Vienna's not exactly an easy tie either,
00:41:36so I don't think they've had much luck in terms of the draw they've been given.
00:41:40Yep, tough week ahead for Hearts.
00:41:42Rangers and Hibbs both on either ends of 2-1 results midweek in Europe.
00:41:46Curiously, that was also the scoreline the last time Hibbs and Rangers met each other at Ibrox.
00:42:01We'll beat us cross, Boyle's unmarked, and Boyle!
00:42:05Plats it beyond Jack Buttman!
00:42:08As guard! 1-1!
00:42:10And Rangers are level!
00:42:13Pass like no one tackles him!
00:42:15And Scarlett taps it in!
00:42:18Green and white limbs incoming!
00:42:20That's a Bernian ransack Rangers fortress!
00:42:28The Rangers know their home form is going to have to be a whole lot better this season
00:42:33if they're to mount a credible title challenge.
00:42:36That win for Hibbs in May was their second in their last three league visits to Ibrox.
00:42:45Rangers make half a dozen changes from the midweek European defeat.
00:42:49It includes a debut at the back for all the way to Makanya and a first start for Vanya Dragajevic.
00:42:56As for Hibbs, it's four changes from their European victory.
00:43:00Martin Boyle, who scored in those two Ibrox wins, isn't even in the squad.
00:43:04Campbell, Shuto, Kleeje and Megwa come in.
00:43:08Big moment for Derek McInnes, first league match at Ibrox.
00:43:13David Gray knows what it is to win here.
00:43:17The atmosphere inside Ibrox is crackling.
00:43:23Derek McInnes wants to use the 50,000 crowd to their advantage.
00:43:29He's looking for a performance that is confident, aggressive and positive, he said pre-match.
00:43:39David Gray looking to keep a lid on all those Rangers qualities.
00:43:45Here's Campbell, and he's one inside a corner.
00:43:57Jordan Abita to swing this one in.
00:44:03Back post delivery.
00:44:06Away by Fernandes.
00:44:11Hibbs will go all the way back to the goalkeeper.
00:44:16Very animated on the touchline as the Rangers manager.
00:44:21He's clearly looking for more from his side than they've showed in the first couple of games.
00:44:27There's a stoppage here.
00:44:31I think the referee is going to go and look at his screen actually.
00:44:36For this, a tangle in the box between Dragajevic and Jason Kerr.
00:44:44And Matthew McDermott, who's on VAR duty, obviously feels that is worthy of a second look from Don Robertson.
00:44:53And he's given the penalty to Hibernian.
00:44:56And a yellow card for Vanya Dragajevic.
00:45:04Well, Rangers, bemused and bewildered by this award.
00:45:11There's a bit of grappling by both players.
00:45:14But the penalty is given, and it's Josh Campbell who's going to have the opportunity
00:45:21to give Hibbs an early advantage and Ibrox up against Ivor Pandur and sends him the wrong way.
00:45:27It's a terrific penalty from the Hibbs man.
00:45:31And the visiting support, not for the first time in recent visits, are jubilant Ibrox.
00:45:40Really good penalty.
00:45:43And Pandur guessed the wrong way.
00:45:50The Rangers need to respond.
00:45:53Here's Cermiti with an opportunity and he's dragged it right across goal.
00:46:02Picked out well by Fernandes.
00:46:04Not a bad first touch.
00:46:07Not a bad first touch.
00:46:08The second left, something to be desired.
00:46:12Here's Makanya.
00:46:15To Yokota.
00:46:17Up against Meir.
00:46:21Meir got something on that.
00:46:23Cermiti will go and try and keep it in.
00:46:26She does comfortably.
00:46:28And back to Devlin.
00:46:30Into Raskan.
00:46:33Works it for Shaitland.
00:46:34Couldn't bring it under control.
00:46:36Here's Dragicevic.
00:46:40Romans for Curtis.
00:46:42Neat play from Rangers at the edge of the area.
00:46:44Can they work the opportunity?
00:46:46It's Dragicevic.
00:46:47Just wide.
00:46:50It was always just bending away from goal in the end.
00:46:55It's a decent enough hit from the Serbian.
00:46:57You can see it just curling away.
00:47:03Curtis with the corner kick here.
00:47:11It's well away by Keir.
00:47:15Romans will try and return it.
00:47:19Fernandes helps onto Yokota who spins away from Meir.
00:47:25And then he's wriggled past the full back.
00:47:28And picks out Cermiti.
00:47:30Megua on the line.
00:47:32To deny Rangers the equaliser.
00:47:35Well it's terrific wing play first of all from Yokota.
00:47:39And he's got the composure to pick out Cermiti.
00:47:42Who couldn't do much more but Megua.
00:47:44Brilliant.
00:47:46Rangers owners in attendance.
00:47:52Curtis with the outswinging corner this time.
00:47:56Come all the way out to Romans who caught that well.
00:48:00Salinger makes the save.
00:48:04Cermiti's hurt himself in trying to keep that alive.
00:48:09It's a good stop this from Salinger.
00:48:12Romans caught it nicely.
00:48:15But it's there.
00:48:16Cermiti has done himself some damage.
00:48:19Immediately signalling that he needed treatment.
00:48:23And his game is at an end.
00:48:26Reflaced by Ryan Naderi.
00:48:30And gets some final instructions from Derek McInnes.
00:48:37Worrying moments this for Yusuf Cermiti.
00:48:46Obita continues his run forwards.
00:48:51Cligi trying to make something of it.
00:48:54Back it goes to Meir.
00:49:04How much...
00:49:07Would Hebs love a second goal before the interval?
00:49:10Got an opening here.
00:49:12Campbell back to Cligi.
00:49:13Tries to curl it.
00:49:14Just over.
00:49:18It was good patient play from Hibernian.
00:49:21Josh Campbell just laying that into the path of Cligi.
00:49:23Who couldn't keep it down.
00:49:30Romans.
00:49:31Looking for Naderi.
00:49:35Obita's head out.
00:49:36And Meg was neither particularly convincing.
00:49:40Dragovic is going to come on to that.
00:49:43Oh, he caught that sweetly.
00:49:46That didn't look to be far away.
00:49:48At first glance.
00:49:51A yard or two.
00:49:53Wide of that post again.
00:49:59Hebs with a chance in stoppage time to add to their advantage.
00:50:03Flicked on by Obita.
00:50:05Blocked by Naderi.
00:50:07And then another block.
00:50:08To deny Shuto.
00:50:13Kerr the first to be denied.
00:50:16And somehow that is deflected wide.
00:50:21Rangers have upped the ante somewhat at the start of this second half.
00:50:28Diamonde into Curtis.
00:50:30It opens up for Finlay.
00:50:31Curtis.
00:50:31Blocked by Kerr.
00:50:32Diamonde.
00:50:33And saved by Salinger.
00:50:40Rangers looking to turn the screw in search of the equaliser.
00:50:45Curtis didn't really catch the shot.
00:50:47Diamonde.
00:50:47He's pretty close to the keeper in truth.
00:50:53Shaqland round the corner for Raskan.
00:50:56Bursting forwards.
00:50:58Raskan takes the shot on himself.
00:51:00Another decent stop from Salinger.
00:51:04And then Raskan overruns it.
00:51:06He's disappointed with himself in the end.
00:51:11Rangers worked the opportunity well.
00:51:14Again the finishing touch is not there.
00:51:22Naderi.
00:51:23For Shaqland.
00:51:26Denied by the crossbar.
00:51:29Salinger doing enough.
00:51:35Initially it seemed to squirm under the keeper's body here from Shaqland.
00:51:39But whatever it was.
00:51:41It was enough to keep it out.
00:51:47Asghar.
00:51:48For Gasama.
00:51:51Through a couple of challenges.
00:51:53Held off eventually.
00:51:54Back to Asghar.
00:51:57Clips it in.
00:51:58That's Meir who gets the head to it.
00:52:00Shaqland battling away to keep it alive.
00:52:03Diamonde's shot blocked.
00:52:05And eventually Hibs hack it away.
00:52:08And a goal leading something of a charmed life.
00:52:12In the second period.
00:52:16Gasama threads that for Devlin.
00:52:20Devlin forces it across goal.
00:52:22It's Shaqland!
00:52:23Brilliant challenge from Meir to deny him.
00:52:27He cannot believe it, Lauren Shaqland.
00:52:29And no wonder Meir's being congratulated.
00:52:34Well I think in the end.
00:52:36A handball by Devlin's been penalised there.
00:52:38But Adam Meir didn't know that.
00:52:45Still the equaliser.
00:52:47Evades Rangers.
00:52:49That's a good ball from Devlin too.
00:52:51Asghar.
00:52:53Out to Gasama.
00:52:56And it evades both Shaqland and Nadiri.
00:53:04Rangers doing everything but scoring.
00:53:06In this second half.
00:53:08Gasama's made a difference on that left-hand side.
00:53:18Let's go over the corner here.
00:53:24Swings it deep for Fernandes.
00:53:30Diamande.
00:53:32Charged down again.
00:53:33Hibs have just put bodies on the line.
00:53:35All day long.
00:53:37And here they come on the counter.
00:53:39It's Adam Meir.
00:53:40Good challenge from Devlin.
00:53:52And Ross McCrory took one in the face there.
00:53:55The Rangers fans.
00:53:58Hoping that would be enough for a penalty.
00:54:00When it's not to be.
00:54:04Cammy Devlin.
00:54:05Good tenacity.
00:54:06Good pace to get back.
00:54:14McKenna has had a decent enough debut.
00:54:16Despite his side trailing.
00:54:21Paslak has given that straight to Asghar.
00:54:24Gasama now.
00:54:28Flashes it across.
00:54:29Goal.
00:54:30There's the equaliser.
00:54:35At last.
00:54:36Rangers pressure pays off.
00:54:39It's Miguel Chaiwa.
00:54:41Who's turned it into his own net.
00:54:44Well Paslak.
00:54:46Will be kicking himself.
00:54:48Giving the ball away so cheaply.
00:54:51And Chaiwa.
00:54:52Didn't really know much about that.
00:54:54Just trying to block it at the near post.
00:54:57And inadvertently.
00:54:59Guides it past his goalkeeper.
00:55:04And Rangers will probably feel they deserve that.
00:55:06For the second half pressure.
00:55:10Now they're looking for a winner.
00:55:16Goal.
00:55:16Gasama for two Romans.
00:55:20Shanklin's there.
00:55:21Salinger keeps it out.
00:55:23McCrory stands it up to the back post.
00:55:25But there's no Rangers player there.
00:55:34Shanklin's difficult.
00:55:35Coming away from goal.
00:55:37Still gets good power in the header.
00:55:39Another.
00:55:41Save made from Salinger.
00:55:45And David Gray would probably take a point.
00:55:48At this stage.
00:55:54Gasama.
00:55:56Onto that right foot.
00:55:57Good stop.
00:55:58From the keeper.
00:56:15And then Lowe.
00:56:17To Calum Wright.
00:56:19Tries to find the bottom corner.
00:56:21He has done.
00:56:23Oh it's incredible.
00:56:26Just when you thought they were settling for the point.
00:56:29Heberian have snatched the victory surely.
00:56:33The beaming smile says it all.
00:56:36The Rangers fans head home.
00:56:39Knowing that their side have fallen to a potentially costly defeat.
00:56:44In the dying moments.
00:56:48Now Callum Wright's got absolutely no right.
00:56:51To find the goal from there.
00:56:56Pandu looks slow to get down.
00:56:58It's a deflection from Romans.
00:57:00Takes it beyond the goalkeeper.
00:57:05It's agony for Rangers.
00:57:06But it's absolute ecstasy.
00:57:08For the travelling Hibs fans once again.
00:57:11And Ibrox.
00:57:15Seconds left for Rangers.
00:57:18They've run out.
00:57:19It's full time.
00:57:21And Heberian have another victory.
00:57:23On their travels against Rangers.
00:57:27Callum Wright with his first Heberian goal.
00:57:31To deny Derek McInnes anything from this game.
00:57:36And already.
00:57:38Rangers have an uphill struggle.
00:57:41It's finished Rangers one.
00:57:42Heberian two.
00:57:44In terms of the overall performance.
00:57:46Yes it wasn't perfect.
00:57:47But I thought we were a better team.
00:57:49I thought we lose the penalty kick.
00:57:52When I haven't seen it back.
00:57:54I thought it was.
00:57:54I couldn't understand what it was at the time.
00:57:56But having seen it back.
00:57:57It's not a penalty kick.
00:57:58I don't think the referee should be brought over for that.
00:58:00I thought the response.
00:58:01Of the team.
00:58:02In the latter part of the game.
00:58:03Was terrific.
00:58:04We probably need to play a bit more like that.
00:58:05More often.
00:58:06In terms of.
00:58:07Playing forward.
00:58:08Engaging more strikers.
00:58:09Quicker.
00:58:10Playing a better tempo.
00:58:11The stats that matter.
00:58:12Is the one.
00:58:13The final result.
00:58:14And I'm not going to be a manager here.
00:58:15That takes positives for that.
00:58:16But there was some positives.
00:58:18And I liked the way.
00:58:19How my team never gave it up.
00:58:20They kept going for the win.
00:58:22And I thought that was really harsh on us.
00:58:23And sometimes.
00:58:24In life.
00:58:25In football.
00:58:25You don't get what you deserve.
00:58:28Better than what we got today.
00:58:29It's a massive win.
00:58:30A brilliant win.
00:58:32Certainly.
00:58:33You know.
00:58:33The feel good.
00:58:34The fact that we've got right now.
00:58:36Coming in.
00:58:36Especially the manner.
00:58:37In which the game went.
00:58:38To score at the last minute.
00:58:38To go and win the game.
00:58:39We needed.
00:58:41Every player.
00:58:41To put their body on the line.
00:58:42Which they did.
00:58:42Your goalkeeper.
00:58:43To pull off massive saves.
00:58:44Which he did.
00:58:45And you need to ride your luck a wee bit as well.
00:58:47And then.
00:58:47Actually.
00:58:48Going against that.
00:58:49We lose a goal from an own goal.
00:58:50So.
00:58:50At that moment.
00:58:50Then.
00:58:51Maybe it wouldn't be your day.
00:58:52It would have been easy to fold there.
00:58:53Credit to the players.
00:58:56We break away in the last minute.
00:58:57And I've got five.
00:58:57Four or five players.
00:58:59Desperate to go and put the ball in the net at the end.
00:59:01So it shows you the character.
00:59:02The group.
00:59:02And the belief that's in there as well.
00:59:03Yeah.
00:59:04Listen.
00:59:04I share the frustration.
00:59:05It's been 15 years here of frustration.
00:59:07Built up.
00:59:08We need to dig deep in a minute.
00:59:09And I'm determined to get this right.
00:59:11And I believe we will get it right.
00:59:12I think it shows how determined we were to have the best window possible.
00:59:16To try and get everyone ready.
00:59:17It's not the start that I wanted.
00:59:20But we still plan to get the finish that we wanted.
00:59:22And it's up to us to try and be as strong as we possibly can be in the next few
00:59:26games.
00:59:27And certainly coming out this window.
00:59:29Fantastic 2-1 victory for Hibs at Ibrox once again.
00:59:34I can't wait to see if these two agree on the contentious penalty decision.
00:59:39And we'll come to you first, Andy.
00:59:41Andy.
00:59:42Vanya Dragaevic with this.
00:59:45I suppose they're both at it with Jason Kerr.
00:59:48But does Dragaevic initiate the contact?
00:59:51And should it have gone to VAR for you?
00:59:53Yeah.
00:59:53Listen.
00:59:53I think you always run the risk when you've got the hands on an opposing player.
00:59:57But I really hope this isn't the barometer for penalty kicks throughout the course of the season for corners.
01:00:03Because, yes, he's got his hands on Jason Kerr.
01:00:06But by the time that the fouls are judged to be made, I think it's equally a foul both ways.
01:00:12I mean, Jason Kerr has got his left arm on Dragaevic's face.
01:00:16And his right arm's round his neck.
01:00:18So, listen.
01:00:19I stress that you always run the risk.
01:00:21But for me, that should never be a penalty kick.
01:00:25And like Derek McInnes says, we were obviously watching it in the studio.
01:00:27And at that moment in time, we were guessing that it was an off-the-ball incident in the box.
01:00:31But obviously they've went back.
01:00:33They feel as if they've seen an infringement.
01:00:34But even when Don Robertson's sent to the monitor, I'd like to think when he has a certain look at
01:00:39that,
01:00:39he can be strong enough to stick with his original decision.
01:00:41But he's decided to give a penalty and has put it away well.
01:00:45Scott, what's your take?
01:00:46I mean, Dragaevic is just looking at Jason Kerr.
01:00:48His marking's terrible.
01:00:50He is actually terrible.
01:00:52He's a yard and a half off him.
01:00:53There's no body contact to start with.
01:00:55See, if he's touch tight to him, he doesn't get that far away from him.
01:00:59Jason can't pull away from him.
01:01:00And then when he does, I don't think it's a penalty.
01:01:03Because if that is what we're going to class as penalties from now on,
01:01:07there's going to be a penalty every...
01:01:08Why not?
01:01:09Because they're both at it?
01:01:10They're both at it, but...
01:01:11Does Dragaevic not perhaps split-second make contact first?
01:01:14I can't say he should.
01:01:15100%, he starts it.
01:01:17But it's not enough for me.
01:01:19Because no matter what, there's always going to be contact in the game.
01:01:23And I'm here with Andy on this, and it's not often I'm going to ever agree with Andy.
01:01:27But look, the thing is, take nothing away.
01:01:29It's a penalty.
01:01:30It's done.
01:01:30It's dusted.
01:01:31Hibs go and score after 12, 13 minutes.
01:01:33There's still a long way in the game for Rangers to get back into it.
01:01:36So they've got to go in there with the belief to try and get back into the game.
01:01:39But overall, Rangers probably didn't do enough in that final third,
01:01:43as in having quality chances, play.
01:01:47The speed of play I thought was very, very slow.
01:01:49But look, I thought the subs that came on impacted the game a little bit more.
01:01:54Andy, let's discuss that in a little bit more depth,
01:01:56because this wasn't how it was supposed to be.
01:01:59Derek McKenna is still searching for his first competitive win as Rangers manager.
01:02:02What was wrong with Rangers today for you?
01:02:06Well, when me and Bruno were watching the games, I think words that we described,
01:02:09Celtic's performance and Hartz's performance was fluid, played at a tempo,
01:02:13made it very difficult for the opposition to deal with.
01:02:17But, you know, Derek McKenna has adjusted his shape a couple of times,
01:02:20but I just thought they were so rigid.
01:02:22And you look at here, Dagiyevic stand behind players,
01:02:25not trying to move into space to receive the ball,
01:02:26even when they've got the ball, so slow in their movement.
01:02:29I mean, when Yokota gets the ball here,
01:02:31there's no option to go 1v1.
01:02:33There's no player in close proximity to try and combine.
01:02:36And this is the reason for me why Rangers concede so many counter-attack opportunities,
01:02:40because when you've got the ball in wider areas
01:02:42and you're trying to sustain attacks, you have to then lock the box.
01:02:45This is one for me, Andy.
01:02:46Yeah.
01:02:46Like Devlin there.
01:02:48I was a huge reminder, Devlin, last season.
01:02:51It's a big step up going to Rangers.
01:02:53You've got to pass the ball forward.
01:02:54You've got to break lines.
01:02:55You've got to know where it is.
01:02:56This one is a huge problem.
01:02:59The speed of play, Devlin, centre-half, centre-half, Devlin, Devlin, centre-half.
01:03:05Just unnecessary.
01:03:06Just slow.
01:03:07The ball has to go in front.
01:03:08If you want to start with any pace into any game,
01:03:11the ball has got to go forward.
01:03:13As soon as you can go forward or have vision to pass forward,
01:03:16that's a thing for us.
01:03:17And as much as we are saying that Hibs out of possession,
01:03:21I thought they were really compact.
01:03:22They were brilliant in their shape.
01:03:24But Rangers done nothing to move Hibs out of shape.
01:03:27The speed of play wasn't enough.
01:03:29There wasn't enough runners in behind.
01:03:31Again, nobody was playing in close proximity with each other.
01:03:34Again, look at the distances between Rangers.
01:03:36There's no option on Dragajevic when he's already in an uncomfortable position.
01:03:40But then for me, this is probably the first time throughout the first half that Rangers
01:03:44actually had a run in behind in at least a half chance.
01:03:47And the only player in the team capable of playing a forward pass at this moment in time
01:03:51is probably Emmanuel Fernandes.
01:03:52So does it need different players or just different style then, Andy?
01:03:56Well, a bit of both without question.
01:03:58Because for me, I still think Rangers have got a whole lot to do in the transfer window.
01:04:02But again, I thought it was really predictable in how they were trying to play well.
01:04:05They were trying to get out to the wide areas as fast as they possibly can
01:04:07and then get crosses into the box.
01:04:09And either they never crossed into the box,
01:04:11or when they did cross into the box, like me and Scott were talking about.
01:04:14Rangers don't then get enough bodies up to support the play
01:04:17and lock the box if the ball then gets cleared.
01:04:19Because any time crosses did go into the box and the ball was cleared,
01:04:22it was the Hibs player picking it up and then it ultimately led to the counter-attacks.
01:04:25If you go try, it would be the own goal, obviously, from Rangers point of view.
01:04:29You're kind of a JD Gassama fan overall.
01:04:32Is that fair to say, Andy?
01:04:33Yeah, well, it's a huge failure.
01:04:36It's not so much a fan, but I can always give people pass marks when they're positive
01:04:42instead of passing the buck and passing it to someone else
01:04:45and hoping they can come up with a moment.
01:04:46Now, it's got to be said that Felix Paslak,
01:04:49I mean, how much Hibs put into the game defensively
01:04:51for him to give up a chance at that.
01:04:53But then again, I thought when JD Gassama came onto the pitch,
01:04:56there was at least an enthusiasm to try and make a difference,
01:04:58to get on the ball, to drive at people.
01:05:00And I think Chaiwa, for me, he's extremely unlucky there.
01:05:03I don't think he knows too much about it.
01:05:04He's in a good defensive position as well.
01:05:06Paslak knows he has to go the line,
01:05:08because Mulligan's inside him.
01:05:10Yeah.
01:05:10So, it's a fantastic ball across
01:05:13and it puts it into a dangerous area.
01:05:15And every time you're in those areas and somebody's running back to goal,
01:05:18you take the opportunity.
01:05:19It hits against somebody, the ricochet, wherever it goes.
01:05:22And lucky enough for Rangers at that point in time,
01:05:24it goes in the back of the net.
01:05:25We were actually saying as well, Scott,
01:05:26I actually thought Jokota did okay today.
01:05:29Yeah.
01:05:29But I don't actually think he had a whole lot to work with.
01:05:31It was a case of, you know,
01:05:32get on the ball and just try and create a moment.
01:05:35There was no real passage of play for Rangers.
01:05:37I thought they were getting good players in good areas.
01:05:38I thought their shape was really, really rigid.
01:05:41And once the wide players were on the ball,
01:05:43there was just an expectancy to create something.
01:05:45Absolutely.
01:05:46A fantastic victory for Hibs.
01:05:48Again, they're making a habit of this, I brought Scott.
01:05:50I mean...
01:05:50Back to back.
01:05:51Yeah, exactly.
01:05:52In a stoppage time victory.
01:05:53Fantastic.
01:05:54I think you've got to give Dave huge credit.
01:05:56Yeah.
01:05:56Because he's changed his shape from a back five,
01:05:58and he was talking about after the game.
01:06:00The wing backs get locked back,
01:06:01Rangers control the game.
01:06:02And he went a lot more positive.
01:06:04Yeah.
01:06:05Locked in the middle of the park a lot more as well,
01:06:07because the Rangers were playing to the strikers feet.
01:06:08He knew there was two strikers in there at that point in time.
01:06:10And I thought every decision that Hibs made,
01:06:13minus the pass at that point in time, was spot on.
01:06:16Well, Callum Wright, what a moment for him.
01:06:18Absolutely brilliant from Hibs on the break.
01:06:21And he gets a bit of fortune, obviously,
01:06:22with the goal in the end spot.
01:06:23Yeah, 100%.
01:06:24And look, this is brilliant composure.
01:06:26Four players around you.
01:06:27Eldon plays that out.
01:06:28Chalwa.
01:06:29I'm not sure he manages to make this pass.
01:06:33It's a little bit of a duck hook.
01:06:34That's your right back up there that controls the ball.
01:06:37I'm sure if Rangers go up the park and score a goal,
01:06:39Dave will be raging.
01:06:40But it's brilliant.
01:06:41It's a lovely touch the pass up.
01:06:43It goes out to right.
01:06:44Callum Wright, he gets a little bit lucky with a little bit of deflection.
01:06:48But as David says, he's got four and five bodies forward in the 92nd minute.
01:06:54I think this probably comes after Rangers' best spell in the game.
01:06:57And there's almost an expectancy that Rangers might get one or two more chances
01:07:01to actually go and get the winner.
01:07:03White Scotch says that.
01:07:04I mean, Owen Eldon's part in the goal for me is so underappreciated.
01:07:07It would be so easy when you've been your backs against the wall for 10, 15 minutes.
01:07:11When that ball drops, you just lace it up the pitch and get your team up the pitch
01:07:14and try and reset again.
01:07:16But for such a young man, the composure to bring the ball down, switch the play,
01:07:19and then three, four Hibs players spring into attack.
01:07:22It says there might be a better fortune in the design of how it gets up there,
01:07:25but it all comes for the composure for Owen Eldon at the start.
01:07:27How confident are both of you that Rangers and Hibs can get through these Euro ties midweek?
01:07:32Obviously, Hibs 2-1 up against Scandia, Scott, but away from home in North Macedonia.
01:07:38And Rangers obviously will have to fight back from 2-1 down, Andy,
01:07:40against Jagiellonia Bialystok at Ibrox.
01:07:43First to you, Andy.
01:07:45Well, I hope they both go through, but I think Hibs' last-minute goal in particular
01:07:51is so important going over there.
01:07:52I think it's important that they try and hold on to a victory
01:07:54because I think it would have been a lot more difficult, obviously,
01:07:56if the scoreline was 1-1, going over at a really difficult place.
01:07:59There's no doubt the pitch is going to be sticky.
01:08:01It's going to be a hot temperature.
01:08:02It will be a difficult occasion for the Hibs players.
01:08:04But for me, I think they've probably got enough to get through the game.
01:08:07And in terms of Rangers, I think they need a vast improvement
01:08:12on what the game was over in Poland.
01:08:14Because we spoke at length about Rangers and their fragility out of possession
01:08:18at this moment in time, which is completely unlike a Derek McInnes side.
01:08:22But I think a lot of that is actually down to their structure
01:08:24when they've got the ball and how open they are when the ball turns over.
01:08:28We mentioned a couple of incidents in the game today.
01:08:30But none more so than in Poland.
01:08:31Because in the first half, I think the Rangers were very lucky
01:08:34to go in at half-time, only one down.
01:08:36So I think there needs to be a big improvement for me
01:08:38for them to go through.
01:08:39Just very briefly, Scott, are they both going through?
01:08:42I'm going to say yes.
01:08:43I think Hibs have got enough to go over there and hold out.
01:08:46And I do think the Rangers are all one at home.
01:08:48Let's hope so.
01:08:50OK.
01:08:51Motherwell earned themselves a midweek draw away to HJK Helsinki.
01:08:55How would it finish against Falkirk at Far Park?
01:08:58Commentary from Stuart Mitchell.
01:09:01It's two of last season's most impressive sides
01:09:04as Motherwell get league life started at home under Alfred Johansson.
01:09:08Falkirk hope for continuity in this fixture.
01:09:10The Bairns won three out of the four last season against Motherwell,
01:09:13including their two trips to this venue.
01:09:15There's a first Premiership start for Mikey Booth after appearances in Europe.
01:09:19Defender Jamie Knight-Lebel makes his first start for the Steelmen
01:09:22and Saeed returns.
01:09:24Seven switches for Falkirk.
01:09:26McCann and Nielsen step in.
01:09:28Crowhouse and Doherty get their first league starts.
01:09:30Barboek is in after arriving on loan with Ross a late addition.
01:09:40Falkirk looking to build.
01:09:42Motherwell nip in and steal.
01:09:44Here's Mazwanisi going from distance.
01:09:46Didn't catch it as sweetly as he wanted to.
01:09:49But Motherwell looking to flex their muscles in attack.
01:09:59Bain with the goal kick.
01:10:02And the header ricochets.
01:10:05Falkirk sends an opportunity.
01:10:06Here's Ross onto the right foot.
01:10:09Looks up.
01:10:11Poulsen clutches that one gratefully.
01:10:15You always know what Ethan Ross wants to do on that right foot.
01:10:21Alfred Johansson named Falkirk the nemesis.
01:10:23After the record last season between these two.
01:10:27Some last ditch defending from Falkirk.
01:10:30Not allowing any way through for Motherwell.
01:10:38Ross looked to clip it.
01:10:40And there's a challenge and the referee looks and points.
01:10:45Priestman penalised.
01:10:47Chris Graham.
01:10:50Keeping an eye on things from that quick Falkirk free kick.
01:10:55And a heavy touch from the Motherwell man.
01:11:02Ross stands over the set piece.
01:11:05It's just too high.
01:11:07From a Falkirk perspective.
01:11:10Poulsen and Motherwell stop are untroubled.
01:11:19Here's Knight Lebel.
01:11:23Looks to connect things forward.
01:11:26That looked a harmless ball through the middle.
01:11:28Maz Wanisi attacking it.
01:11:30Nielsen steps away with the ball.
01:11:32Motherwell.
01:11:33Feel there was a foul on there.
01:11:35Striker.
01:11:36Let's have another look.
01:11:37Nielsen comes across trying to shield.
01:11:44Langello.
01:11:46Saeed.
01:11:47With a lovely move.
01:11:48And it sets the steel men away.
01:11:51Langello looks up.
01:11:52Maz Wanisi is there.
01:11:53Gets a touch.
01:11:54And it just trickles wide.
01:11:55While Tawanda Maz Wanisi is looking towards the referee.
01:12:00He feels there was a clear pull.
01:12:02It's a lovely Motherwell move.
01:12:05That spark down the left side from Saeed.
01:12:09Maz Wanisi in a battle with Henderson.
01:12:14Motherwell corner.
01:12:15Headed away by Nielsen.
01:12:18Langello.
01:12:19Feeds the ball back out wide.
01:12:21Saeed.
01:12:23Cross teasing.
01:12:25The touch.
01:12:27And then off the bar from Saeed.
01:12:31Well it seemed to take an age for Ibrahim Saeed to strike that one.
01:12:34As soon as he stepped over the ball.
01:12:36And he's so, so close.
01:12:42Motherwell support trying to urge.
01:12:45Their players in front.
01:12:52Saeed feeds Langello.
01:12:54Back on to the left foot now.
01:12:57Hangs up towards the back post.
01:12:59Sparrow's there.
01:13:01And that one wide from Maz Wanisi.
01:13:04He's just trying to peel into the space as the move happens.
01:13:09But the ball sits up high.
01:13:15Priestman takes.
01:13:17And the cross field ball.
01:13:20Moorman steps back.
01:13:22He's in a bit of trouble.
01:13:24And goes diving in.
01:13:26And the referee quick with the whistle in the mouth.
01:13:29And with the yellow card out of the pocket.
01:13:32Yellow card for Moorman.
01:13:35Strain in pain.
01:13:42Was that one a high challenge?
01:13:47Saeed.
01:13:51Saeed.
01:13:52Motherwell finding the spaces again.
01:13:54Langello drives it over.
01:13:57And Maz Wanisi stepping onto it.
01:13:59A lot of power.
01:14:00But he's frustrated with himself.
01:14:02That's a few chances in this game now for Tawanda Maz Wanisi.
01:14:12Falkirk have looked better in the second half.
01:14:15And they're looking for a quick counter of their own.
01:14:18Ethan Ross.
01:14:21Steps into the box.
01:14:23But the route to goal blocked.
01:14:27Falkirk fight to keep it alive.
01:14:29Doherty.
01:14:30Strain on the overlap.
01:14:32Clips it up.
01:14:35Scrappy but Motherwell eventually get it clear.
01:14:39And could it turn into something better?
01:14:42Tidy footwork from Maz Wanisi.
01:14:45Where's the support for Motherwell?
01:14:50The strike is high.
01:14:53And over from Alex Lowry, the substitute.
01:14:59Alfred Johansson urging calmness.
01:15:02It's lovely work from Maz Wanisi.
01:15:06He just had to pause and scan for who was going to arrive in Claret and Amber.
01:15:13Lowry was surrounded.
01:15:21Lovely move from Vogt.
01:15:23Maz Wanisi in the box.
01:15:26Deflection.
01:15:27Steered away by Henderson.
01:15:29And the Falkirk defence.
01:15:33Molliwell picking up the pace inside Fir Park.
01:15:38Only Vogt with the chance to show what he can offer.
01:15:45Still goalless as we edge towards the final ten minutes.
01:15:50Who will make the breakthrough?
01:15:53That's a lovely pass over for Strain.
01:15:56The cutback.
01:15:56And Strain is in a heap off the pitch.
01:16:00And the Falkirk players are making the referee aware of that.
01:16:05And Strain is in disbelief.
01:16:11Well, the right back does so well to get onto it.
01:16:13He's caught late and flattened by the Motherwell man.
01:16:21And this game has really opened up now.
01:16:25Lowry.
01:16:272-3 on the right side.
01:16:29It's Kutrumbis.
01:16:30And he just never looked confident.
01:16:34The Australian with a heavy touch in the box.
01:16:37The Australian with a heavy touch in the box.
01:16:37His manager doesn't mind as he applauds.
01:16:45Henderson looks forward.
01:16:47High ball.
01:16:49Is there a chance for Ross here?
01:16:52It's high and wide.
01:16:55He's at opportunities.
01:16:57Coming in from the left this afternoon.
01:17:00And just unable to find the target with this one.
01:17:08John McGlynn watches on.
01:17:10Can his Falkirk side get the go-ahead goal?
01:17:15Early cross sent over.
01:17:17Motherwell tried to get it clear.
01:17:18The layoff for Barbrook.
01:17:20And it's deflected.
01:17:22And out for the corner.
01:17:23A big chance for Finlay Barbrook.
01:17:26Who just arrived on loan this week.
01:17:29That would have been a headline moment for the Bairns.
01:17:35And there it is.
01:17:37The first goalless game in the Scottish Premiership campaign.
01:17:40The first league clean sheets of the season for Paulsen and Bain.
01:17:45And two sides to keep an eye on for the remainder of this Premiership season.
01:17:49It finishes at Firth Park.
01:17:50Motherwell 0.
01:17:51Falkirk 0.
01:17:56It's a game where even if we created a couple of chances where EB shot in the crossbar.
01:18:02And JT on the first post.
01:18:04And Kotrombis in the back area of the box today.
01:18:10We could have converted better and scored a goal absolutely.
01:18:14But I think the performance in the second half is something that we offensively with the ball.
01:18:23We expect more from each other and we know that we can do much better than that.
01:18:27So yeah.
01:18:28That is something that we would like to do better.
01:18:31Great work rate for the whole team.
01:18:33We knew we would have to do that coming here.
01:18:35Motherwell are an excellent team.
01:18:36They passed the ball so well.
01:18:37And the bottom line was for us to really, really work hard and make it difficult for them.
01:18:41Which I think over the whole game I think we did.
01:18:44Very, very pleased.
01:18:45There's loads of positives to take from that.
01:18:48From where we were this time last week.
01:18:51We were really disappointed.
01:18:52So today the attitude was great.
01:18:54The commitment was great.
01:18:57The energy in the team was much better.
01:19:00And, you know, that's the standard that we've got.
01:19:03It's the minimum standard that we should get.
01:19:05Great to get a clean sheet.
01:19:06You know, we've not been keeping enough clean sheets.
01:19:09So delighted to get that clean sheet for sure.
01:19:12We shall not linger too long on this game.
01:19:16In the end, Alfred Johansson, Andy Halliday,
01:19:19continuing seamlessly it feels from the Jens-Bertel-Ascu regime of last season.
01:19:25Generally still unbeaten and probably the better side today.
01:19:28Yeah, I thought they edged it.
01:19:30It's not often that I describe a Motherwell game as drab though.
01:19:33And I thought on occasions today,
01:19:34it didn't really look as if it was going to be many goals within it.
01:19:37But even Jens-Bertel-Ascu's Motherwell last year
01:19:39took a few games where they really clicked into gear in the final third.
01:19:43And I've loved what I've seen so far from Motherwell
01:19:45in terms of loads of control in the game.
01:19:47But for me, I still think they're one or two players short in the final third.
01:19:51And to be honest, I think Falkett are probably the same.
01:19:53Despite that today, John McGlynn still contender for Scotland manager?
01:19:55I hear they're closing in, Scott.
01:19:57They're closing in, are they? You don't know me.
01:19:59No, I love John's team.
01:20:01How he's done it from League One, Championship,
01:20:03and he still continues to play the same way.
01:20:06And he was disappointed last week with St Mirren.
01:20:07A hundred percent.
01:20:09Because a home game, first game of the season,
01:20:10he wanted the three points.
01:20:12But to get a draw, not concede in the style that they did last week,
01:20:17they created a couple of chances.
01:20:18Nothing huge.
01:20:19I think if you look over the whole thing, there's two shots on target.
01:20:22So it doesn't have to be a huge game.
01:20:23Let's look at the HJK match midweek, Andy.
01:20:27And it was great to see Motherwell take the lead in Finland, obviously.
01:20:32They would get it clawed back through Timo Pukki.
01:20:34We'll see the action in a moment.
01:20:35But how highly do you rate their chances of getting past the biggest team in Finland this coming midweek?
01:20:42I'm actually more confident in Motherwell going through than anyone else.
01:20:47I thought their performance over in Helsinki, particularly in the second half,
01:20:50was absolutely outstanding, how well they controlled the ball.
01:20:52Going away from home in Europe, we all know how much our domestic teams have struggled in Europe over the
01:20:57recent years.
01:20:57But how sound they look defensively.
01:20:59And I actually think when this goal came from 37-year-old Timo Pukki,
01:21:03it came at a time where I really didn't see Motherwell conceding.
01:21:06But that's a moment of quality for a top-quality player.
01:21:09But I think Motherwell, for me, I've actually got loads of confidence that they can go through in the tie.
01:21:14Let's certainly hope so.
01:21:15OK, when you're done with sports scene tonight, there's a wealth of content out there.
01:21:19Icons of football is on the iPlayer.
01:21:22The Scottish Football Roundup drops tomorrow.
01:21:25All the best from the lower leagues.
01:21:26A big week of European action as well, sports teams across all of it.
01:21:30And on Friday night, League Cup knockout football in a tasty derby as Kilmarnock host Air United.
01:21:36So, a sumptuous Sunday.
01:21:38Here's the best of the Saturday action.
01:21:43Wiley, a lot of space to work with here.
01:21:47Pokes it to Bevin.
01:21:48He's already had one opportunity.
01:21:51Bevin, it's a dangerous area.
01:21:53Adrian Wesley finds it back in the net.
01:21:56Brilliant Dundee goal.
01:21:58So inviting for Joe Wesley to just step onto it.
01:22:04He just guides the ball past Muller.
01:22:08That by Guinness Walker.
01:22:11We knew it.
01:22:13Taken away by Aberdeen.
01:22:15And now Wesley, quickest to react for 2-0.
01:22:18Muller to the rescue for Aberdeen, but it's still alive for Dundee.
01:22:21Wesley, cross blocked, but it falls for Murray.
01:22:26And with Simon Murray, you're just expecting him to thrash that into the back of the net.
01:22:32So poor from Aberdeen.
01:22:34Wesley alive to it.
01:22:36The finish lacked conviction though.
01:22:38In contrast to the goal they scored earlier.
01:22:41And it drops to Murray.
01:22:46Oyster to the back post.
01:22:48Happi's header comes off the crossbar and somehow stays out.
01:22:54Armstrong keeps it alive.
01:22:55It comes back in and Happi's header.
01:22:58He's well off target.
01:23:00Well Aberdeen have created virtually nothing in this first half so far.
01:23:05But they go so close to levelling.
01:23:08It's Goodman that touches it onto the crossbar.
01:23:17Lastly for Bevan again.
01:23:19And Bevan's away from Guinness Walker.
01:23:20It's Joe Bevan!
01:23:22So close to two.
01:23:25Everything but the finish.
01:23:31Wiley.
01:23:35Tess Caden again.
01:23:37It's a neck off the Aberdeen defender.
01:23:39Happi away.
01:23:41It's going straight to Hamilton.
01:23:44Wesley.
01:23:45Wiley.
01:23:47Looking for Hamilton.
01:23:48It bounces for Bevan!
01:23:50It is 2-0!
01:23:54And Joel Bevan gets the goal.
01:23:57His play thoroughly deserves.
01:24:00Muller was helpless.
01:24:03Aberdeen have been hapless.
01:24:05It is Dundee 2.
01:24:07Aberdeen 0.
01:24:09And that is the least the home side deserve.
01:24:13Dundee clear.
01:24:15Tweedle.
01:24:17When he gathers for Aberdeen.
01:24:19Hopeless ball.
01:24:21Jamal Asagna, not sure who he was trying to pick out there.
01:24:27That's another goal.
01:24:28That one's better.
01:24:29Cadden!
01:24:30Off the crossbar.
01:24:43They've won the throw there though.
01:24:46Liam Smith tries to play it quickly.
01:24:49Well does that strike an arm?
01:24:50St Johnston have appealed.
01:24:52St Mirren get the ball clear.
01:24:58referee Ross Hardy is going to go across to the screen here.
01:25:05It does strike his arm.
01:25:07It does appear to be in the box.
01:25:09Ross Hardy having a good long look at the monitor.
01:25:13But this looks like St Mirren are going to be punished.
01:25:18Penalty.
01:25:20Ross Hardy has made up his mind.
01:25:24It's Jamie Gullin.
01:25:26With the chance to put the Perthshire Saints ahead.
01:25:29And he's missed.
01:25:30Jacob Chapman with the save.
01:25:31And Gogic on the rebound.
01:25:34And he stops it even from going behind for a corner, Alex Gogic.
01:25:38But Jacob Chapman is the hero.
01:25:41And he's certainly enjoying it.
01:25:44Did Jamie Gullin just make it too obvious where he was going there?
01:25:49Look Thomas inside to Phillips.
01:25:52John around the corner.
01:25:54Samuel Ramos will chase it.
01:25:55Looked like a lost cause.
01:25:57But he's won his side a penalty.
01:26:00Toby Stewart pleads his innocence.
01:26:04But has he caught St Mirren's Spanish midfielder here?
01:26:09The knees of Stewart just catch Samuel Ramos.
01:26:16It'll be a short run up.
01:26:18And he sends the goalkeeper the wrong way.
01:26:22Killian Phillips makes it 1-0 to St Mirren.
01:26:27They punish St Johnston to full effect.
01:26:31And it's a tale of two penalties in Paisley at the moment.
01:26:41Ball to the back post.
01:26:43Check Diabate with the header.
01:26:45And it crashes off.
01:26:47Jacob Chapman's right hand post.
01:26:50Diabate.
01:26:52Tonight the William Hill Premiership table looks like this.
01:26:54After two games played Celtic and St Mirren lead the way with maximum points.
01:26:59For now Rangers in the bottom half with just one point.
01:27:02Along with Falkirk and Dundee United.
01:27:05Kilmarnock bottom with zero points.
01:27:09What a weekend it has been.
01:27:11And we love Scottish football so much.
01:27:13We're off to record the Scottish football podcast next.
01:27:15Available on BBC Sounds from 8am tomorrow.
01:27:18Like tonight but hopefully slightly funnier.
01:27:20For now though from all of us on the sports team team.
01:27:23Goodnight.
01:27:23Goodnight.
01:27:53Goodnight.
