00:08Today, as we officially name our school hall, Preston Hall, we celebrate more than just a name on a building.
00:15We honour Lee's legacy of inspiring excellence, a legacy of compassionate leadership, unwavering commitment and a deep, genuine belief in
00:24the power of education to change lives.
00:26To express adequately the immense gratitude I feel for this extraordinary accolade, TPS, Tenant of Public School, will always have
00:37a very special place in my heart and now even more so because you've been me worthy of this very
00:46esteemed honour.
00:46I came to school basically to improve the education and social outcomes of the children that were in my care.
00:57I've always wanted to inspire children to be their best selves so that eventually they would become great citizens of
01:06their community and of the wider world.
01:08And I believe in Tenant of Public School, that's what we did every day.
01:18There were a couple of things he taught me when I first started teaching that stayed with me ever since.
01:23One was about communication.
01:25Mr Preston's advice was that if you were ever a time when you weren't sure about if you should communicate
01:31or pass a message to somebody,
01:33his advice was that one phone call too many is the way it's better than one phone call, not enough.
01:38The other piece of advice is still something that I share with any teachers, which are beginning teachers, that come
01:44through my classroom.
01:45Mr Preston's three R's of education weren't reading, writing and arithmetic.
01:51They were relationships, relationships, relationships.
