A Box Turtle is a fascinating land-dwelling turtle famous for its high, dome-shaped shell and remarkable ability to protect itself. Found mainly in North America, box turtles inhabit forests, grasslands, wetlands, and areas with plenty of leaf litter and vegetation.

Unlike most turtles, box turtles have a hinged lower shell that allows them to pull their head, legs, and tail inside and close the shell tightly when threatened—almost like shutting the doors of a box. They are omnivores, feeding on insects, worms, mushrooms, berries, fruits, and other plant material.

Box turtles can live for several decades, and some individuals may survive for more than 100 years. Their protective shell, long lifespan, and adaptable lifestyle make them some of the most fascinating reptiles in the wild. 🐢🌿✨
