A Caiman is a powerful semi-aquatic reptile closely related to alligators and crocodiles. Native to Central and South America, caimans inhabit rivers, lakes, swamps, wetlands, and flooded forests, including parts of the vast Amazon Basin.
Caimans are skilled ambush predators that often remain almost completely submerged while watching for prey. Depending on the species and size, they feed on fish, crustaceans, birds, reptiles, and mammals. Their armored skin, strong jaws, sharp teeth, and muscular tails make them highly adapted to life both in and around water.
