00:00Newly declassified documents are shedding light on just how far the FBI was willing to go during
00:04the Trump-Russia investigation. The White House released bombshell records showing the FBI opened
00:09a counterintelligence investigation into whether President Trump was, quote,
00:13wittingly or unwittingly acting as a Russian agent after he fired FBI Director James Comey in 2017.
00:19The investigation, codenamed Oxford comma, grew out of the FBI's broader crossfire hurricane probe
00:25into alleged Russian collusion during the 2016 election. The newly released memos show
00:31investigators sought to determine whether Trump had been directed or controlled by the Russian
00:35government and whether firing FBI Director Comey constituted obstruction of justice.
00:39But the documents also include internal FBI messages showing some agents had doubts about
00:44the investigation. One text from, ironically, senior FBI official Peter Stroke said he was concerned
00:50there was, quote, no big there there. Ultimately, the investigation was closed in 2019 without any
00:55charges against Trump. The release comes years after the Mueller investigation found no evidence of
01:00criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia and after special counsel John Durham
01:05concluded the FBI's original decision to open the Russia investigation was, quote, seriously flawed.
