Transport secretary tells us a safer A9 could be seen as new rail development for freight reduces large transport on roads
Transcript
00:00There's so much work going on the A9, and regarding this current development here, obviously it's a significant factor, it's
00:09going to take a lot of freight towards the roads, that's going to be all the more important given. What
00:14would you think was the great wins out of this particular development?
00:17Yeah, so look, it goes without saying that the less vehicles, large vehicles we have going down our trunk roads,
00:24down the A9 in particular, the better. And for the business, it gives them the opportunity to take a huge
00:30amount of capacity straight into the market in the middle of England. That's a win for them, it's a win
00:35for us, and it's a win for the public as well, who will hopefully be able to get to a
00:40point where there's fewer large vehicles travelling on that road.
00:42And you know, if we can get more goods onto the rail, that's a good thing for the economy, it's
00:48a good thing for the transport sector, but if we can supplement that by making sure that we finish the
00:52dueling of the A9, which I am so focused on making sure that we do, we'll have the best of
00:56both worlds.
