00:00Over 40,000 road defects could be repaired within two years under what has been described as a pothole blitz.

00:0714 new crews are being deployed, backed by an extra £15 million of budget,

00:13while new machinery is intended to deliver faster and more durable repairs.

00:18The promise comes from Staffordshire County Council.

00:21The reform-led authority says 4,655 defects were fixed in June,

00:27while more than 14,000 had been addressed by mid-July.

00:31The backlog remains 31,000 defects.

00:35Councillors welcome the plan but want yearly targets, fewer temporary fixes and figures revealing how many repairs will need repeating.
