Some migrant workers in New South Wales face abuse, human trafficking and even sexual servitude according to a damning report tabled in the state's parliament. The report has rocked the agricultural sector which is urging the government to adopt more than 30 recommendations to clamp down on dodgy labour hire companies at the centre of the exploitation.

00:05Over two years and six public hearings, migrant workers and their families have claimed modern
00:11slavery is rife across Australia.
00:14I know that our people desperately need the money to support their families, but that
00:24doesn't mean that they have to live like pigs.
00:28A New South Wales inquiry today backed these concerns, claiming migrant workers are facing
00:34forced labour, debt bondage and even sexual servitude.
00:38I'd be shocked to think that we invite people here to work, they come here to work to help
00:44us and we treat them this badly.
00:47The report places much of the blame on dodgy labour hire companies who use the limited regulation
00:52in New South Wales to exploit migrant workers.
00:55It recommends the state adopt a similar approach to Victoria by establishing an authority and
01:00licensing scheme to hold those companies accountable.
01:03There is so much compelling evidence that shows that this will actually really be a significant
01:09way to clean up many of the issues.
01:12Labour hire syndicates in Coffs Harbour are at the centre of the most serious allegations
01:16of modern slavery.
01:18The good farmers will be the most shocked.
01:20I know that they'll be disgusted with the behaviour of the few that are bringing the
01:24rest of them down.
01:25The government's being urged to put more funding into multicultural centres which have
01:29been left to pick up the pieces.
01:31Like every Wednesday afternoon I get up to seven or eight people coming in on all sorts
01:36of enquiries.
01:37They have a very negative view of Australia because of all the suffering they've gone through.
01:41No longer suffering in silence.
