A 15-year-old has been charged with manslaughter after a grocer allegedly bashed by a group of youths in Melbourne’s west died in hospital. Van Viet Troung is being hailed a hero after he attempted to stop the group from robbing a nearby store on Saturday.

00:01Well, Mr Truong was very well known here in Hampshire Street in Sunshine.
00:06You can feel the sadness here today as locals lay flowers and shed tears.
00:11Mr Truong ran his Asian grocery with his wife for almost 30 years,
00:15but this week it's remained closed as she and her children come to terms with his death.
00:20His close friends tell me he was a lovely man who always waved hello and cared deeply about his customers.
00:25Five youths were initially charged with a fray and intentionally causing injury over Mr Truong's death,
00:32the youngest just 12. The charges against one have just been dropped.
00:36Meanwhile, a 15-year-old boy's charges have just been upgraded to manslaughter.
00:40They'll all return to a children's court tomorrow.
