00:00There may be a breakthrough in one of the world's most dangerous flashpoints.
00:04Treasury Secretary Scott Besson says the United States could reach a deal with Iran soon to
00:08reopen the Strait of Hormuz again, the critical shipping lane that carries about 20 percent of
00:13the world's oil. Here he is on CNBC Tuesday. We are in talks with the Iranians and I think there
00:19is a chance we may have a deal today or tomorrow to open the strait and move towards a more
00:28normalized position in this conflict. Besson says any agreement would restore free passage for
00:33commercial shipping without allowing Iran to charge tolls or fees on vessels moving through
00:37the strait. But, and stop me if you've heard this one before, there's still a major sticking point.
00:43Iran continues to insist it's not negotiating directly with the United States, saying all
00:47of its talks are taking place through Oman and warning that any agreement would only last if
00:51what it calls U.S. aggression comes to an end. The latest diplomatic push comes after President
00:56Trump said he called off a major military strike over the weekend in order to give negotiations
01:01one final chance. A Democratic Socialist candidate is once again having to explain past comments about
01:08Thanksgiving. Francesca Hong, the current frontrunner for her party's nomination for
01:13Wisconsin governor, was asked this week whether she still believes Thanksgiving should be canceled
01:18after a 2020 social media post in which she called the holiday a celebration of colonialism.
01:22Rather than directly answering the question from CNN's Caitlin Collins, Hong pointed to her background
01:28as a chef and restaurant owner. I always think my hospitality background and owning a restaurant
01:33for seven, eight years that bringing folks around the table to share conversation and build community is
01:40always a good thing. But Thanksgiving is also a time that's incredibly painful for many people in our
01:46communities. And so I think there I wanted to make sure that people understood that there are multiple
01:52views, but views can evolve. The comments come as Hong faces renewed scrutiny over a series of old
01:59social media posts criticizing not just Thanksgiving, but also holidays, including the Fourth of July,
02:04Christmas, Halloween, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Father's Day. Hong did not and has not said
02:09whether or not she still believes Thanksgiving should be canceled. And her campaign has not responded to
02:13questions about the resurfaced posts. Win or lose, though, she may not be someone you're going to
02:18want to invite to your next holiday party. We're learning more about the armed Good Samaritan who
02:23helped end the deadly mass shooting at an Idaho In-N-Out. Jordan Salinas says that when he saw a
02:29gunman
02:29calmly aiming an AR-style rifle at cars outside of the fast food restaurant, he decided he had to act.
02:35Armed with a semi-automatic pistol, Salinas fired back at the shooter the first time he had ever pointed a
02:41gun
02:41another person. He told ABC News that the gunman's confidence vanished the moment someone started
02:46shooting back. He seemed unusually comfortable aiming that rifle at those cars. And then as soon
02:52as some rounds started coming at him, everything changed. Immediately, all that, you know, all that
02:59bravado he had immediately crumbled. Police say Salinas and an off-duty officer forced the gunman to
03:06flee the restaurant. The suspect later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities believe their
03:10actions prevented even more people from being killed. The shooting left two people dead, including
03:1523-year-old In-N-Out employee Ashley Garibay and 59-year-old Christopher Clonch, while seven others
03:21were wounded. Investigators are still working to determine a motive for the attack.
