00:00And we certainly are going to see a whole lot of the future prospects starting to come up.
00:05Yankees have, what, George Lombard Jr. coming up here.
00:09I've seen a few teams now that are, hey, making room for the future generation players.
00:18Is it usually September or is right around the time where we're going to start to see a lot of
00:23this for teams to see what they have moving forward?
00:27Well, some of the teams that are out of it will start to call up guys now if they want
00:35to.
00:35But it's a little bit dicey now because for teams that are out of it, Joe, because of the looming
00:41lockout, any player that is called up now, and we'll use like Max Clark on Detroit as an example.
00:48Because Max Clark has been called up, if there's a lockout, and now he's on the 40-man, next season
00:55he can't report to minor league spring training and essentially play in spring training for the Tigers next season.
01:01So I don't think you're going to see a lot of this happen now.
01:04In the old days, September 1st used to come, and then you could have 70 guys on your team.
01:08That doesn't exist anymore.
01:09You can only add three.
01:10And that's it.
01:11That's the maximum you can do.
01:13And so I do think you'll see some of that.
01:15But the Yankees, Joe, I mean, come on.
01:17That's like a different planet, right, that they're dealing with others.
01:20They're playing right now to win.
01:22They could care less what's going to happen in five months with this lockout.
01:25Lombard's coming up to help them win right now.
01:27They've obviously punted Volpe.
01:29That's it.
01:30You know, I think he'll be somewhere else next season.
01:33It's the end of the line for him there.
01:35Probably for Jason Dominguez, too, who they sent down.
01:37But a lot of pressure on George Lombard.
01:41I've seen him grow up.
01:42I've known his dad and his mom for a really long time.
01:45I worked with his mom for almost 10 years here in South Florida on TV.
01:48And his dad, George, I've known very, very well from when he was a player to now he was a
01:52coach.
01:53His other brother, George's other brother, Jacob Lombard, was just drafted by the Marlins, ironically, with the 14th overall pick.
02:00So I know that family real well.
02:02I mean, George Jr. will not be caught up in the moment.
02:05I know that.
02:06I mean, he's an even-keeled kid, and that's the way that the background is.
02:11But still, I mean, the lights are on big any time there.
02:16So you never know.
02:18But I think in particular for me, it's the pitching debut, you know?
02:23I mean, Skubal, Peralta, those are the ones I think that we'll have a close eye on tonight.
02:27Good night.
