00:00So earlier in the show, we shared with you the Mike Sando from the Athletic Quarterback
00:06tiers list, you know, 70, some, 50, excuse me, some odd general managers, assistant general
00:14managers, coaches, and assistant coaches vote on 35 veteran quarterbacks and none of the rookie
00:21quarterbacks are included. So no Ty Simpson or Fernando Mendoza in this. And they put them into
00:27tiers, tier one, tier two, tier three. And in this case, this year you have just tier four.
00:33Last year, Jaden Daniels was six at the top of tier two. This year he's in tier two, but he's
00:40at 13
00:41overall. He's in the middle, if you will, or towards the back end of tier two. And I read to
00:46you some of
00:46the things that were said about Jaden Daniels. You know, he's got to reprove it. You know, he's a
00:53legitimate ascending two, but it's his health. Took off and ran too much last year. He's got to
00:59settle into the position, has talent. Similar to Lamar when he can't run, he's just a tier three
01:06quarterback. And then you go back to last year when he was the number one quarterback in tier two,
01:16below the top five quarterbacks in the league, Mahomesboro, Allen Jackson, and Stafford.
01:22And no one was talking about him taking off and running too quickly. No one was talking about
01:28injuries. None of that. Here's some of the quotes. First of all, Jaden was the highest debuting rookie
01:34quarterback on that list of all time. Even CJ Stroud wasn't close to the number of votes he got.
01:42Jaden got 17 first place votes, which was in total 13, which were in total 13 more than the rest
01:52of
01:53the starting NFC East quarterbacks combined. Here were some of the quotes about him from a defensive
02:01coordinator. What I respect most is it never seems too big for him. He'll stand in the pocket and deliver
02:08the ball. And then when he starts running around, that's a problem. Um, well, another defensive
02:16coordinator, he can run, he can throw with accuracy. He's really calm. This S four letter word ain't too
02:24big for him. And it's easy to see when you're playing him. He doesn't get flustered from one voter.
02:33However, he's the best passer in our division. This was an NFC East voter. He's really good
02:43this year on the list. A year later, uh, both Dak, Dak, Dak Prescott's ahead of him. Jalen Hurts is
02:51actually behind him. Jackson darts behind him as well. Um, another quote, uh, from a defensive
02:59coordinator, the dude's got an arm, he's got legs and he got, he has processing. He just took his team
03:07to the championship game with a non-championship caliber roster. I think he's tremendous. A head
03:15coach said about Daniels. I don't want to one him meaning tier one him because I want to see another
03:22year, get me halfway through the second year and I'll have a good feel. The defensive coordinators
03:27will, will have had their shot at him. Well, of course, as we know, they didn't have much of a
03:34shot
03:34at him because he didn't get a chance to play much. So what a difference a year makes. They still
03:42didn't
03:42drop them at a super high level. Remember last year after CJ Stroud ended up in the top seven,
03:50he dropped to number 10 after his sophomore season. Um, and there were other names on the
03:58list last year that aren't anywhere near the list this year. It's interesting. Just, I think just
04:03like the ESPN list, it's always interesting to me to see what actual people in the league think more
04:10than, you know, beat reporters and columnists. What are the guys in the league actually think of these
04:22players, which is why that ESPN list is interesting position by position. And this one, uh, Sandoz
04:27been doing it for several years is interesting as well. I will say this. I think they've got the tier
04:34one quarterbacks. Correct. I think right now the four best quarterbacks in the game are Alan Mahomes,
04:42Mahomes was one here, Mahomes, Allen Stafford and Burrow. I think after that, because Lamar hasn't
04:50done it in the big spots yet, I still think Lamar is close when he's healthy. He's really going to
04:57have
04:58to, at some point in his career, get it done in the post season. Quarterbacks are judged on that,
05:03even though it's sometimes unfair. I think with him, it's been fair. He hasn't played well
05:08in a lot of those games. You know, his post season record, not great. Justin Herbert,
05:16until he does it in big games like Lamar, he's not a tier one quarterback. He's not anywhere near it.
05:22He's also performed poorly in some of his biggest games. Dak Prescott isn't that much different.
05:30hasn't come up big in the biggest games of his career. You know, Drake May last year, my God,
05:38night and day compared to Jaden in the post season from 24. I mean, you cannot compare Drake May or
05:45Caleb Williams in their playoff games to what Jaden Daniels did in his. Jaden Daniels was a superstar
05:53in the post season in 2024. Drake May was objectively horrible in the post season games. Caleb Williams was
06:04pretty good and exciting, but wasn't Jaden in those games. Jordan Love has to deliver a little bit more
06:12in big spots. See, I think with these elite level quarterbacks, what we've seen is we've seen, you know,
06:20incredible performances in the regular season, but we've seen them do it in the post season. And you
06:25can say, well, Josh Allen hasn't gotten his team to a Superbowl. Yeah, but it's not because of him.
06:31He's had excellent, memorable playoff games, incredible playoff games. Some of those games against the
06:40chiefs, obviously the 42 36 overtime game, when he gave them the lead with 13 seconds to go,
06:47and then they lost in overtime without touching the football before the rule changed.
06:52One of the great playoff games in the history of the league. I thought last year, his performance
06:59against Jacksonville was the best of the post season. And there was a lot of blame on him in
07:06that divisional round loss against Denver, but they would have had no chance without him in that game,
07:12which, which can be said at the same time. Stafford Burrow. They've both performed incredibly well
07:19in big games. Those are your four tier one guys. That's it. That's the list. No one else deserves
07:27to be on that list right now. If Jaden had had an injury free year and it had approached, even
07:35if it
07:35didn't match 2024, I think we'd be talking about him, you know, maybe just outside that tier,
07:43it would have depended on what they did had they gotten to the post season. Lamar can't be in that
07:49tier. I'm sorry. I love Lamar Jackson too. He's a player that I love watching play, but his playoff
07:57career is littered with average to subpar performances. It just is. And until he gets
08:08that team to a Superbowl with him playing at a high level, I don't know that you can really,
08:16you know, I don't think you can really put him in that level. His post season numbers. I mean,
08:25in some of these games you'll remember, but overall he in eight playoff games where they've lost as a
08:35favorite three times, 60.6% completion percentage, 1,753 yards in six games, 10 touchdowns, throwing
08:49seven interceptions. He's taken 29 sacks and he's fumbled five times.
08:56Lamar just had, he's, I thought he played okay. And that lead up to the chiefs game in the title
09:02game, but then didn't, I thought he played okay. And that Buffalo loss a couple of years ago may
09:09have been his best overall playoff game. I'd have to go find the, uh, the actual stats from that game
09:19for him, um, against Buffalo. Cause I thought he did play well and they obviously had a chance,
09:23but he had a turnover late in that game too. Yeah. He was pretty good in that game. Two TDs,
09:28a pick two 54. Um, yeah. Been tough for Lamar in the playoffs. I liked the Sando list at the
09:38top.
09:39I think it's absolutely the right list for truly elite level quarterbacks in the NFL.
09:47And then a couple of guys that you could see being, you know, on that list with better performances
09:54in big games. And in the case of like a Jaden Daniels, just getting back to being healthy for
10:0217. You know, I was listening to, um, uh, the Greenberg show this morning, get up. Jeremy
10:09Fowler was on it. Jeremy Fowler, we had on the show last week. He was actually at Washington's camp,
10:15uh, the last couple of days. And, you know, he said, you know, and I was glad to hear him
10:22say this
10:22because I think a lot of the national guys don't start with this, but when you get to, well,
10:30what happened to Jaden Daniels, if your first answer out of your mouth as a, as a football
10:37reporter or columnist or, you know, TV pundit or radio tacos, uh, isn't well, he barely played
10:47football. He was injured most of the year. If that isn't your first answer and you start getting
10:52into, well, you know, he ran too quickly. He didn't process. He wasn't accurate. Um, he's injury
10:59prone, et cetera, the injury prone. There's something to it. Um, but he did say something
11:04that I did find interesting because he did lead with, look, he didn't play much. You know, he
11:09played in seven games. He didn't take it to the next level, which I've done to emphasize how little
11:14he played last year, which is to say out of 17 games, he actually only played in four start to
11:21finish and in three start to finish completely healthy. That's just a fact. You know, the games that
11:28he played in start to finish completely healthy were the giants opener, the chargers game and the
11:37bears game, uh, the green Bay game he played start to finish in, but he got hurt late in the
11:43third
11:43quarter and played injured in the fourth quarter. Um, if your answer doesn't start with, well, you know,
11:51it's hard to evaluate him because he didn't play much football. Then I think you're an idiot. Um,
11:57but the other thing in Jeremy Fowler essentially started the answer that way, which I think is,
12:02is good because a lot of guys in his business I've heard start with, oh man, he really regressed. I
12:07mean, his footwork terrible, the processing really in which games. Um, so then the other thing Fowler
12:14said is, and I, it may not have been Fowler was part of the overall conversation. And if it wasn't
12:20him
12:20and it was somebody else, um, I I'm just forgetting who it was may have been, um, Jason McCourty,
12:26who by the way, is going to join, uh, he's going to fill in for that Ryan Clark spot on
12:31the pregame
12:32Monday night football show with Scott on ESPN. But they said a lot of the pre-draft concerns became
12:41or the pre-draft concern about him and his frame and his ability to stay healthy worst fears realized
12:51last year. He's got to prove that he can play and be available. I am not going to debate the
12:59fact that
12:59that was a discussion point, but it wasn't a discussion point based on him having an injury
13:07plagued college career. It was projecting what that body would look like and how it would hold up
13:14at the NFL level. Because as a college player, he started and played in 52 of 54 games at Arizona
13:25State
13:25and LSU.
