00:00B, I want to have a conversation. Mike Sandoz is going to join the program later today, I believe, right?
00:05And Sandoz is a really good reporter. He does it the right way, really well-established around the NFL, writes
00:12for the Athletic.
00:13And I like the way he does this. Every year he does these quarterback tiers, right?
00:20And I think the tier system is a lot more effective than a ranking system because, to me, there is
00:29a big group that has separated themselves.
00:32And then there's another group that's trying to separate themselves, right?
00:39For me, there's no debate about Mahomes, Allen, Stafford, I'd say Lamar, Joe Burrow, right?
00:50But weirdly, in tier one, now, to be clear, he does this legit, talks to 50 executives and coaches around
00:57the NFL.
00:58And he divides them up into four tiers. Obviously, the higher the tier, the better.
01:03So, like, I don't get caught up in where you rank within a tier.
01:08But it is wild to me. We'll start here. Lamar, not in tier one.
01:13Is that crazy to you?
01:15Yeah, it is. Based on if he's had, what, two MVPs already?
01:18Yeah. Now, if you're just basing it off last year, Lamar wasn't that great last year.
01:24But...
01:25I didn't play a hole last year.
01:27So, if they're going to dock one person, they've got to dock the other for not being in there.
01:33I agree with you. So, you've got Lamar not in tier one.
01:38And then, Jaden Daniels is in tier two.
01:42If I tell you Jaden Daniels is in tier two and the guys at the top all have Super Bowl
01:48rings or MVP trophies,
01:50I don't see that as much of an argument.
01:52Nope.
01:53It's not. It's not an argument. I think people want you to argue.
01:56Because, let's be real, I don't care how much work they do, how many people they talk to.
02:02It's still people's opinions.
02:04Okay?
02:05And then, I think, when we look at it, we have our opinions and we want to fight for it.
02:09But the ultimate thing is, the guy's been in the league two years and you consider him in the second
02:15tier.
02:15I don't see that as a bad thing.
02:17Right.
02:18Yeah.
02:18I think, so some of the quotes about Jaden from the piece are, I think he was a little quick
02:24to take off and run last year.
02:25They spent a lot of money on that offensive line and drafted some guys.
02:28So, I think he just has to settle into position.
02:31He has all the talent.
02:34Watching Jaden, I think a lot of it was the offense, defenses.
02:39In 24, the offense worked.
02:40In 25, it didn't.
02:42And I think we even saw in the Green Bay game that Jaden didn't look comfortable.
02:46He was also getting his ass kicked.
02:48Yeah.
02:49Like.
02:49And that will make a quarterback leave early.
02:52And it was, I think, here's what I want to ask people.
02:56800-636-1067.
02:58800-636-1067.
03:00Jaden Daniels is in tier two.
03:02I think that's appropriate.
03:03If you want to get worked up because he's technically ranked 13th behind guys like Love, Purdy, Caleb Williams, I
03:11can hear that.
03:12I think tier two is correct, though.
03:14So, he's ahead of Mayfield, Darnold, Lawrence, Jalen Hurts, Bo Nix significantly lower.
03:20What does he need to do this year for you where this time next year when the list season hits,
03:26he's back in tier one and it's no longer.
03:28I don't care about that list.
03:30I just think what he needs to do this year, settle down a little bit more.
03:33You know, make sure it's about throw the ball, run only if you need to.
03:39So, if he just goes back to his first year.
03:41In his first year, that ball was coming out of his hands so damn quick.
03:45I think last year he held on to it a little bit longer.
03:49He was trying to give people chances.
03:51And then all of a sudden he kept being on his butt.
03:53And then once he got on his butt, he decided, you know what, I'm not doing this anymore.
03:57He began to do things a little quicker than he would ordinarily do.
04:00And he has to get back to being what he was in year one where he had more patience.
04:05And I believe the offensive line is going to help that, you know.
04:09And I think last year, Jalen understood Terry not being there kind of hindered some stuff.
04:16Then when he came back, you know, they hadn't gotten into that rhythm completely.
04:21So, he tried to make things for other people.
04:23He tried to make plays himself.
04:25I think this year, he's had everybody from the beginning.
04:30So, relax.
04:31And just let things come to you.
04:33Totally.
04:34The feel of everything this year is dramatically different, I would say.
04:39And I think Jaden's comfort level in this offense, I mean, we're only two weeks in.
04:45But, like, I thought today they cooked, right?
04:48And I thought today was probably the best day the offense has had.
04:52I think, is there the assumption of health?
04:56Yes.
04:57But I think that is an assumption around the NFL.
05:01I think the reason Lamar's not in that top tier is because of health.
05:04I think removing health, I think Jaden Daniels has looked so good in this camp, so comfortable, so ready to
05:15go, that I think he gets there.
05:19And I don't think it's a ton of conversation about it.
05:22But it is interesting with Jaden, if people are trying to find a criticism, is he taking off to run
05:31too much?
05:32I think last year was just so broken on so many levels, it's hard to know, right?
05:37Yeah.
05:38I want to let these callers weigh in.
05:39I guess Mike and Pat are in the car, they just left practice.
05:42Mike and Pat, what did you make of practice today if you were here?
05:46What up, JP?
05:47What up, B-Mitch?
05:48What's happening, man?
05:48We were out there, I thought it was a fantastic practice today.
05:52Beautiful day for football out there with the light drizzle.
05:55Every day is a great day for football.
05:57So, no, we saw some really good throws, really good catches, great effort from our receivers out there.
06:01Love seeing the big boys out there push each other around.
06:04All in all, it's good physical practice.
06:07Honestly, every quarterback out there made some great throws, even during the one-on-ones, during the drills, seven-on
06:11-seven.
06:12Everybody did great.
06:13It was an awesome practice.
06:15So, yeah, guys, I think the vibe is looking good today.
06:18Go Skins.
06:18Let's go.
06:19H-T-T-R.
06:20Appreciate you, man.
06:21All right, now we're going to go to Damian in D.C.
06:23Damian, what do you think Jaden needs to do this year?
06:26To get back in that top-tier QB conversation.
06:31So, in my opinion, Jaden is going to go back to the top ten.
06:35He's going to throw 20 touchdowns this season.
06:3920 is not that many, dog.
06:40We need 30.
06:41Yeah.
06:44I don't know if we lost Damian.
06:46Well, I just feel like, you know, I just feel like, okay.
06:49That number's got to be at least 25, dog.
06:52Yeah.
06:53But I feel like, but I think Antonio Williams is going to be his second slot receiver.
06:58Antonio Williams has been looking good.
07:00Yeah.
07:01He has.
07:01He has.
07:02He looked real good.
07:02Appreciate the call, man.
07:04I do think.
07:04You're welcome.
07:05I think the Terry thing last year was such a hindrance.
07:09I think they came in with such heightened expectations.
07:13I do think defense has kind of figured some stuff out.
07:17But, you know, to me it's almost hard to look at the numbers, B.
07:22Like, his completion percentage did drop almost ten points.
07:26In 24, he was completing 69% of his passes.
07:29Last year, that number fell to 60.
07:31Now, he played four complete games.
07:33He had three other starts where he didn't even finish.
07:35There was no β it was like Stallion on the dance floor.
07:38There was no rhythm to the 2025 season.
07:42You know what I'm saying?
07:43Yeah.
07:44Yeah, and it was more than just him.
07:47And I think what I always say, quarterbacks are the most dependent position in sports.
07:51I know what we say.
07:53Oh, he makes β quarterback make this person better, make that person better.
07:56If they don't have an O-line, they're not going to be very good.
07:58If they don't have anybody to throw the ball to, they're not going to be very good.
08:00And if they damn sure don't have a running game to support them, they won't be.
08:04Last year, he had injuries to his best receiver.
08:08He got injured.
08:09Had injuries in the offensive line.
08:11All three things you've got to count on.
08:14Were injured.
08:15So, now you're starting to β you're fighting an uphill battle.
08:18And still, he understands how good he is.
08:21He was trying to make things happen by himself.
08:24He has to β this year, I think the goal should be keep him comfortable to where he can do
08:31things
08:31and allow others to help.
08:33Don't ever make him think he has to do it by himself.
08:36Agreed.
08:37Yeah.
08:38I think if the defense is better, if your run game is better,
08:42there's so many things that can break the right way.
08:45Yeah.
08:45And it seems like they're tracking that way.
08:48Injuries can undo any season at any time.
08:51Let's seek in Patrick's in Ashburn.
08:53Patrick, do you think Jaden's poised to get back into this top tier?
08:55Talk about him like you talk about Stafford and Burrow?
08:58Yeah, man.
08:59He should already be up there.
09:00What are we even talking about here, man?
09:02Come on now.
09:02He was injured last year with an inconsistent offense.
09:07You know what I mean?
09:08Bo Nix is not better than β I got friends that aren't even going to buy Madden this year.
09:12Because of the ratings.
09:14You know what I'm saying?
09:16I do not pay attention to Madden ratings.
09:19Perhaps that's a hole in my game.
09:21In this β
09:22I don't really care about the Madden ratings.
09:23In these tiers, Bo Nix is rated below him.
09:26Like, you can make an honest β if you are really tearing this out,
09:31I don't β maybe you disagree with Herbert being sixth, Brian,
09:35but Mahomes, Allen, Stafford, Burrow, Lamar, Herbert, Dak, Drake May, Jared Goff,
09:41Jordan Love, Brock Purdy, Caleb Williams, then Jaden.
09:44Based on last season, until you get to 10 with Love, Purdy, Caleb, Jaden,
09:51it's a pretty easy case.
09:52If you're looking at 25, what was accomplished on the field,
09:55and that's what you're basing things on,
09:57I think the top 10 of this thing, you can argue about where the order,
10:01if you want, but the top 10 sounds correct.
10:03And I think last year, this time last year, Jaden was firmly in the top 10,
10:09arguably the top 5.
10:11This year, coming off a down season with a bunch of injuries,
10:14it's fair for him to be just outside.
10:16It also won't matter week one.
10:19Yeah.
10:19Like β
10:20Nobody's going to care.
10:21Daniels is 13th, Hurts is 17th.
10:23They're going to be on the field, and we'll start to sort that all out.
10:26Mm-hmm.
10:27What do you think Jaden Daniels does this year to take a leap?
10:31What helps him?
10:32Because I think there's a lot that will help this young man really jump.
10:36And I think a lot of it is the offense.
10:37I think a lot of it, though, is just who he is.
10:40Oh, my God.
