01:32You know, it's World Series aspirations.
01:34This is a World Series aspiration move.
01:36And then I just finished texting,
01:38and then it came across what they gave up.
01:39I'm like, oh my goodness,
01:41that is a lot.
01:42But I'll stand by it.
01:44I'll stand by it.
01:45It's, you know,
01:46I don't want to obsess over overpaying
01:49or what you gave up in minor leaguers.
01:50I hate when they do that because so many times
01:53it doesn't work out
01:54or that the pain isn't as much as everybody thinks.
01:58What's painful is not taking advantage of a situation
02:01like the Red Sox find themselves in,
02:03which is arguably the best team in the American League.
02:06Having that World Series possibility,
02:08which they have proclaimed back in November,
02:11you put yourself in this situation.
02:13They earn the right to actually have the front office
02:16make moves like this.
02:17And the minute that Ali Rushman walks in that door,
02:22that this is going to be,
02:23for the players in there,
02:24nobody's going to say,
02:25oh my goodness,
02:25we don't have Kyson Witherspoon
02:27and Anthony Irons and Carlos Nevarez.
02:29No, they're going to be like,
02:31okay, here we go.
02:32And I think there's something to be said for that.
02:35There's a risk.
02:37All of these have risks.
02:38This is cost of doing business at the trade deadline.
02:40But still, we can't be hypocrites here.
02:43You want to get to where you want to go?
02:45This was a big step toward doing that.

02:48It's amazing how this people would be.
02:51Usually, the fans around here have issues for them
02:54not making, getting rid of their prospects
02:57and making their team better.

02:59But I'm reading some comments from Will Middlebrooks.
03:02He must have just been on CBS Sports.
03:04But he talks about maybe part of the overpay,
03:06Brad Foe,
03:06was that the New York Yankees were in the market
03:08for the same player.
03:10And so, you know,
03:11that maybe the fact that, you know,
03:13the Red Sox and the Yankees were after the same player
03:15is what drove up the price for the Red Sox.
03:18Your thoughts on that?
03:19And does that give you a good feeling that,
03:22hell, the Yankees were trying to land the same guy,
03:23but the Red Sox, you know, ultimately got him?
03:27Yeah.
03:27I think that, you know,
03:29two things is that, you know,
03:30we look at every time a deal isn't made by the Red Sox
03:34and the Yankees make a deal
03:35or anyone makes a deal,
03:37Rays make a deal, whoever,
03:38you say, well, what are you doing?
03:40Like, you, not only didn't you get the guy,
03:42but you let them get the guy,
03:43which is a big part of this equation,
03:45a big part of the conversation
03:46over the last few years at the trade deadline.
03:48So, once again, we can't be hypocrites.
03:51This was a move that absolutely helped your team,
03:54but also did a disservice to the Yankees.
03:58And that is undeniably one of the,
04:01maybe three or four teams that you're competing with
04:04to get to the World Series
04:05in the American League right now.
04:07And also, another part of this is,
04:09is, you know, Craig Breslow,
04:11and I tweeted this,
04:12Craig Breslow has familiarity with Mike Elias.
04:14He played with him on the baseball team at Yale.
04:17You say, well, what's the big deal?
04:18Well, look at the deals that Breslow have made
04:21with, you know,
04:22that are legitimate baseball moves recently.
04:25Paul Daboni, obviously, with the Red Sox,
04:27that was a legitimate one-for-one baseball move.
04:30This, a legitimate baseball move.
04:31You give up a crap load of prospects
04:34for a guy who's going to help you right now,
04:36but you do that out of familiarity and trust
04:39and speaking the same language and all of that.
04:41So, I just,
04:42and here's the last thing I'll say about Craig Breslow, too,
04:45about this deal,
04:46is that I do think that he's learned.
04:48I don't think there's any question about it.
04:50I think that he learned about this job,
04:54about how deadlines work,
04:55because remember last year,
04:57they went into the end,
04:59they got screwed on Joe Ryan,
05:00you end up with Dustin May,
05:02and then you have the sad trombone of a deadline,
05:04a second straight time.
05:06This time, you're not waiting around,
05:08you're getting up,
05:09really getting uncomfortable,
05:10but you're getting the thing that you know
05:12that you had to get,

05:14you kept them away from the Yankees.
