00:0212-year-old Charlie Coco has a rare chromosome disorder and her mum Mel, terminal cancer.
00:09But they see a future when they gaze up at this dormant star.
00:14It's amazing, it's incredible.
00:16Before it stopped operating, the 120 metre wheel used to glow through the night.
00:20It burned so brightly patients at the Royal Children's Hospital could see it.
00:24And she loved it, she really looked forward to it.
00:27This week, the mother and daughter get to renew a beacon extinguished five years ago.
00:32I'm so excited to actually watch her have her moment and be seen
00:37and watch her have the joy of turning on the lights
00:41and everyone around her celebrating her and celebrating the Melbourne star
00:45and having that memory that she can look back after I pass.
00:49It's, you know, it's hard to talk about without crying, you know.
00:52It's a really difficult life and so to give them the chance for a bit of fun
00:58to set the fireworks off and light up there and hopefully give some light in their life.
01:03So there's clearly a lot of work that still needs to be done before it's fully operational.
01:08But the promise is, it'll be ready to go before the end of the year.
01:11The deeper question is, what's different this time that means it'll be sustainable over the long haul?
01:15We're a small family business. We're not a major corporation from the other side of the world.
01:21There'll be a lot more care and passion.
01:23And this Thursday evening, memories will be made for this family and a wish fulfilled.
