00:12Jyoti, a PhD scholar from the Department of Microbiology at Punjab University,
00:16was walking from her hostel to her classroom.
00:19She allegedly took an unpaved path to avoid waterlogging
00:22and grabbed an electric pole to steady herself.
00:25The pole was live and she suffered a fatal electric shock.
00:34Jyoti was just weeks away from getting married.
00:38Soon after her death, ABVP students protested on campus,
00:41accusing the university administration of negligence
00:43and demanding the vice chancellor's resignation.
00:46The university has since announced Rs. 16 lakh in compensation for her family
00:51and offered her brother a job as an electrician on campus.
