01:06While CENTCOM did not officially reveal the target, reports from Axios and the Jerusalem Post,
01:13quoting U.S. officials, say the missiles were aimed at an American military base in Jordan.
01:19One official described it as a major attack involving at least four ballistic missiles.
01:25The timing of the strike is significant. This is the first publicly disclosed Iranian attack on U.S.
01:33forces since President Donald Trump reportedly ordered a halt to American military strikes on Iran last
01:40Friday in an effort to give diplomacy a chance. Just a day before the attack, Trump said the United States
01:48remained in very deep talks with Tehran, but he also warned that if negotiations failed,
01:55Washington would return to what he called very strong military action. He added that Iran did not have
02:02much time, saying the talks must move fast or not at all. Adding another layer to the unfolding crisis,
02:10the missile launch came only hours after Trump held a closed-door meeting at the White House with Israeli
02:16Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The White House described those discussions as positive and
02:22productive, but revealed very few details. According to the U.S. Central Command, or CENTCOM,
02:30multiple ballistic missiles were fired from Iranian territory at around 5.45 Eastern time.
02:36CENTCOM says the missiles were launched by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Corps in what it described as an
02:44attempted surprise attack on U.S. forces stationed in the Middle East. Meanwhile, shortly before CENTCOM
02:52confirmed the attack, Iranian negotiator Syed Mohammed Morandi posted on social media that Tehran was
03:00fully prepared for all-out war. That statement now appears to underline just how fragile the recent
03:07pause in hostilities really was. For now, U.S. officials say the missile attack was successfully defeated,
03:15but with diplomacy hanging by a thread, military forces on high alert, and fresh warnings coming from
03:22both Washington and Tehran, fears of a wider regional conflict are once again growing.
