ABOUT THE BOOK
This was made specifically for my girlfriend, it was my gift to her, in which she suggested publishing it. This book is about our past before we got together. How she was mistreated and how I was blind to love. Not knowing what it truly was until I met her. Me being the black deer and her the white rose. She called me about many things which I added to the book. A husky, Saint and so on. I plan to make more of these stories around the deer and white rose. if this does succeed.

01:00speaking of writers podcast thank you for having me it's great to have you here so let's start at
01:06the beginning what inspired you to create never one without the other as a gift for your girlfriend
01:15uh okay so when we first met she told me she likes reading and uh something i like to do
01:22is i like to go
01:23above and beyond for someone i like so first thing i thought was a book and overnight and when i
01:32i
01:33i taught a few characters a meaning and then like what she meant to me so i just did all
01:40in one night
01:42when she suggested publishing the book what was your initial reaction
01:49i my initial reaction was that it wasn't long enough to be something to be um read for other
01:56people but then i said you know what you never know uh take a step and you'll see what is
02:03in front of
02:04you the story draws heavily from your real life experiences was it difficult to be so open and
02:12vulnerable on the page it was especially for my girlfriend since right now she doesn't like it
02:20she doesn't like um having her name out there or like anything about her on social media and i respect
02:25that and so that's why i didn't mention her name anywhere or will i be mentioning it forward
02:30i'll be calling her here um um white rose uh just for now until she wants to open up more
02:40but for me
02:40yeah it was uh it was a big step for me to her as well because there wasn't much she
02:46knew about me
02:50you describe yourself as being blind to love before meeting her what changed that perspective
02:59well it's it's the way she treated me and the way um no one else did uh at first i
03:08just you know i
03:09see what other people see and i didn't click with that but then she showed me something else
03:17so without her i would have stayed following blind
03:22how did the symbolism it's very symbolic the black deer and the white rose how did that come about
03:31uh it's the white okay so what we already said about like our past the white rose treated poorly
03:38that was her and what happened to her old relationship i also played a part in you know expressing her
03:47uh i treat her differently all the other things
03:55what did those two characters represent represent beyond just the two of you
04:03uh see her favorite flower is also a white rose so i put it in there uh
04:13i also took a little bit idea of like you know the yin and yang
04:18or the black and white favorite colors i i implement everything that she liked in including the dears
04:26because like i said it was a gift for her
04:30yeah no it was a gift for her
04:32yeah so i implemented implemented most of the things that she enjoys into the book
04:39yeah the book touches on themes of healing from mistreatment
04:43and emotional growth too why was it important to include those experiences as well
04:51because the white rose is her so i put a bit of her into it
04:58in my thought into her into the rose
05:02were there moments when you were writing this that surprised you emotionally
05:10it was
05:13there was a few parts it was
05:16normally the initiative i took
05:18on upon like as the black deer
05:22taking the white rose and taking her with him
05:25using the antlers it's
05:28it surprised me that i was even able to think of all this in one night and just by the
05:33next day have it ready for her it was it must have been like something i just
05:37had been thinking of
05:40and you sat down and did it in one night
05:44yeah
05:45your girlfriend contributed ideas and characteristics that made their way into the story what was it like collaborating uh with
05:53her this collaborative process
05:56oh she had no idea
05:58oh she had no idea
05:59it's uh
06:01like i said i used
06:03what she liked from our conversations
06:05from when we went out
06:07and everything
06:10the title
06:11never one without the other
06:13carries a real
06:14it's a powerful message
06:15what does that phrase mean to you
06:18personally
06:23that's a good one uh
06:25basically
06:27if it wasn't for her i wouldn't
06:30be able to
06:31be able to
06:32express myself
06:32if it wasn't for me
06:34she would have probably stayed the same as she was
06:37similar to the
06:39the black deer becoming blind
06:41but then after having her
06:42be um
06:43be able to see again
06:44she was able to
06:45be with him as well
06:47roaming around the island
06:48before staying by the tree
06:50and
06:51basically now
06:52without each other
06:53they
06:53they would never have
06:55truly lived
06:58sergio did writing this book
06:59change the way you viewed
07:01your relationship
07:05a little bit
07:07not
07:07not in a bad way
07:09or any good
07:09or not in a bad way
07:10it's more of
07:12how
07:14how much i truly
07:16understood her
07:17and
07:18how much i really do pay attention
07:19to what she tells me
07:22many readers enjoy stories
07:24that blend
07:25fairy tale elements
07:26with real life
07:27emotions too
07:28were there any literary

07:39i did only one night

07:47story i ever wrote
07:48was my
07:50autobiography
07:50but
07:51i uh
07:52scrapped it
07:53after
07:54finishing it
07:55because
07:55i realized
07:57i wrote
07:58how
07:59sad it was
08:00and realized
08:01it's
08:01it doesn't have to
08:02always be sad
08:06what do you hope
08:07readers
08:07who have
08:08experienced
08:09heartbreak
08:09or loneliness
08:10take away
08:11from this book
08:14that you don't
08:15always have to
08:16stay in one spot
08:17you don't always
08:17have to think
08:18about that
08:18one person
08:19it
08:19it can always
08:20just take a step
08:21into the right
08:22directions
08:22to
08:23finding
08:25finding what
08:26you need
08:27uh
08:27similar how
08:29i did
08:29and as the
08:30black deer
08:30taking that
08:31first step
08:33that really
08:34changed me
08:36yeah you've
08:37mentioned the
08:38black deer
08:38being called
08:38many things
08:39a husky
08:40a saint
08:40and more
08:41how do
08:41those
08:42identities
08:44help shape
08:44the character
08:47it's
08:49it's
08:50it's what
08:50my girlfriend
08:50calls me
08:52and i
08:53implemented it
08:54in the book
08:54like i told you
08:56she was going
08:57through stuff
08:58before i met
08:59her and
08:59and i refused
09:01to like
09:02like not
09:03listen to her
09:04and everything
09:05so then she
09:06started calling
09:07me a husky
09:07because i was
09:08stubborn
09:08the same
09:09because i was
09:10listening
09:10and i was
09:11like i'll
09:11put this
09:12on the book
09:12like i said
09:13for her
09:14and
09:15things that
09:16she told
09:16me
09:19how have
09:20your friends
09:21and family
09:21and and
09:22other folks
09:23who've read
09:23this book
09:24responded to
09:24the story
09:26they they
09:27loved it
09:27uh the
09:28illustrations
09:28was a
09:30friend of
09:31mine
09:32uh well
09:33someone i met
09:34online and
09:35then really
09:36close right now
09:36uh i really
09:37enjoy their
09:38art style and
09:39i i enjoyed
09:40the the disney
09:43kind of like feel
09:43it has to it
09:44too some of the
09:45illustrations um
09:46but in other
09:47words they all
09:48liked it
09:49at first some
09:51of my siblings
09:51you know uh
09:52around my age
09:54they didn't
09:55read the
09:56book because
09:57no you
09:57know you
09:58didn't think
09:59your brother
09:59would do
10:00something this
10:01awesome
10:04and so they
10:05read it and
10:05then they
10:06start saying
10:06to their
10:06friends and
10:07that's what
10:08encouraged me
10:08more after
10:09my girlfriend
10:10told me to
10:10publish it to
10:11publish it
10:11even more
10:14what did you
10:15learn about
10:15yourself during
10:16the writing
10:17process of it
10:17in that one
10:18night
10:20uh just
10:22how much i
10:23really pay
10:24attention to
10:25things even
10:25if it was
10:26just a
10:26moment
10:29if your
10:30girlfriend could
10:31choose one
10:31chapter or
10:32moment that
10:33best captures
10:34your relationship
10:36which one do
10:37you think she
10:37would choose
10:43oh there's a
10:44there's a few
10:45parts i i do
10:46enjoyed uh
10:49i would feel
10:50like when
10:51the deer sat
10:53next to the
10:53rose for the
10:54first time
10:54meeting and
10:55he was on
10:55the thorns
10:58i like to
10:59think of it
10:59as her
11:02explaining her
11:02pain to
11:03the deer
11:04without realizing
11:05that the deer
11:06didn't mind
11:09she likes
11:10to how do i
11:12say this
11:12we like to
11:12go into
11:13conversation
11:13which i
11:14really do
11:15like it
11:15when she
11:15talks to
11:16me more
11:17and she
11:18won't even
11:18realize it
11:20until she
11:21starts apologizing
11:22by going
11:22on and
11:23i said it's
11:24fine to
11:24keep going
11:27the book
11:28leaves room
11:29for future
11:30stories involving
11:31the deer and
11:31the white
11:32rose what
11:33possibilities
11:34excite you
11:34most about
11:35continuing their
11:36journey you
11:36working on a
11:37second book
11:39yeah i'm
11:40working on

11:43thing that
11:45first book
11:46will be the
11:47final story
