00:01A healthy result for a system that struggled.
00:05We've just managed to get around 17,569 elective operations performed,
00:12which is an increase of over 1,000 compared to the year prior.
00:16The improvement is attributed to better patient flow
00:19through the new centralised operations centre
00:21and the $100 million government investment
00:24in increasing elective surgery capacity.
00:26Critically, the number of patients who've waited longer
00:30than clinical guidelines recommend has also been reduced.
00:34We've gone from just over 2,000 patients being overdue last year
00:39to just over 1,000 now.
00:42And so we've not only caught up on the elective operations
00:46that have come in through the year,
00:47we've also managed to reduce the long waits of yesteryear.
00:52We've worked very hard at prioritising our Category 1 patients.
00:56They're patients that need to have their surgery done in 30 days.
01:00And back in January we had about 100 of those patients
01:03and at the end of June we were right down to 14.
01:06Still, nearly 40 Category 2 patients
01:09who should have had surgery within 90 days
01:12had been on the wait list for more than a year as of the end of June,
01:16along with more than 160 non-urgent Category 3 patients
01:20that should have been seen within 12 months.
