00:00It was interesting to see how some of my castmates, they'd be like,
00:04oh, well, I would have known that if I were like, all right, I shouldn't have known.
00:08Nine times out of 10, I can guarantee you that I just will never have known that.
00:12Like, I would not have known that.
00:17Virtual reality.
00:19We are here with the iconic Hilaria Baldwin.
00:22I'm so excited to have you here.
00:24You know, we're talking about Nation's Dumbness.
00:26This show is so much fun, and I guess I'm curious before we get too into it,
00:30how was this show presented to you, and what made you say yes to it?
00:34I think if there's a takeaway about me and the way that my mind works,
00:38one of the special things about this show is we learn a lot about how our minds work.
00:43Those who are on the show and then I think people who are watching the show
00:47is I don't think things through.
00:50I like just say yes to things, and I'm like, sure, that sounds fun.
00:53I mean, it's kooky and fun, and I like laughing at myself, and I'm a little campy.
00:59Do you know what I mean?
00:59All these things, just like leaning into humor.
01:02So I was like, I would love to have an experience where I'm just like laughing
01:06and being silly for a couple of weeks.
01:08I mean, then it ended up being like really hard, and my mind hurt every day.
01:13So it wasn't everything that I thought it was going to be in terms of,
01:17but it was so much more meaningful than I thought it was going to be.
01:20I thought it was going to be like light and silly.
01:21It actually like was very meaningful.
01:25Yeah, well, like you said, you know, you like to have fun.
01:27You like to poke fun at yourself.
01:28You don't take anything too seriously.
01:30Did you find that anybody there was kind of taking it too seriously,
01:33getting in their head too much about it?
01:35I think we all had moments where we did that, including myself, by the way.
01:40Like I would love to say, I always like to be like,
01:42oh, I'm the person, you can't offend me until I'm really dramatic and you offend me.
01:47Then I have a conversation with myself, and I'm like, all right, tone it back.
01:51But I had moments where I was like, I regret this because I grew up,
01:59I have learning differences, I have ADHD, I have dyslexia.
02:02And way, way, way, way back then, it was like very shameful for many of us.
02:08So we just kind of didn't talk about it too much.
02:10Like you kind of, I remember, you know, getting like this testing done
02:15and then just being like, okay, well, now you have to deal with this.
02:18Now you have to work that much harder.
02:20And now it's amazing how open people can be.
02:23And I've just started for myself being brave enough to have these conversations,
02:28whereas before I didn't want to tell people.
02:30Like when I was, you know, working on Extra,
02:33I would try to get the questions early to try to memorize them
02:37because I can't read things quickly or I'll mix things.
02:41And so now I do a lot of work of trying to understand that.
02:45And I, you know, it's amazing when you actually go to therapy for these things,
02:49how much you can improve.
02:51Yeah, definitely.
02:52Well, that's so exciting.
02:52I'm so glad that like you came into this and just, you just owned it.
02:55Like everybody just owned it.
02:56You really killed it.
02:57So far, three episodes in.
03:00Well, did, I'm wondering, because you did Dancing with the Stars last year,
03:03did that kind of give you the bug for these celebrity game competition shows?
03:08Like, do you want to do more of them?
03:09I have a lot of fun in this space
03:12because you meet incredible people.
03:15And for me, I try to grow every day.
03:19Like, how can I be better?
03:21How can I learn something?
03:23What can I learn more about me?
03:24Becoming more self-aware.
03:25I think the word, or the words, self-awareness,
03:30I think is a really important thing.
03:31And I believe as much as I feel like the public space takes you
03:39and commandeers you and mixes you all up
03:41and really has nothing to do with who you are,
03:45I think that little by little, if you stay for it,
03:48you ride the wave and be like,
03:49no, I'm still here and this is who I am and don't you do that.
03:52I think that that's a very healing thing.
03:54And so I think it betters me to be in these places.
03:57But very different from Dancing with the Stars.
03:59Right.
03:59This, Dancing with the Stars, my body hurt at the end of the day.
04:02This one, my mind hurt.
04:03So it was like just a very different workout
04:06and I wasn't expecting that.
04:07That's so funny.
04:08Well, I was going to say,
04:09I love that behind the scenes video of you
04:10and JoJo Siwa dancing.
04:12Is that just what happens when two people
04:13who have been on Dancing with the Stars
04:14end up in the same room?
04:16Yeah, I know.
04:17And I was dancing with Chase as well.
04:19We have like, oh my God, where's so much?
04:21Oh, wait a second.
04:22Wait for the John moment.
04:24Wait for it, guys.
04:26It's going to be good.
04:27But I mean, I'm always dancing and always trying to have fun.
04:30And, you know, these are long days there.
04:33They're long days.
04:35So in our moments of like hanging out,
04:39like you can either go and sit in your trailer,
04:41which is like kind of depressing,
04:42or you can go and hang out.
04:44And we have a group chat.
04:45We're all friends.
04:46We write to each other almost every single day.
04:48So I think that we just enjoyed that part of the experience.
04:51I love that.
04:52I was going to say, I feel like you and JoJo have been like
04:55people who have been misunderstood by audiences before.
04:58Did you guys get to talk about that at all?
05:00Definitely.
05:01You know, I mean, I think that she is someone
05:04who is extremely wise.
05:06And even though she is a lot younger than I am,
05:10I learn from her.
05:12And I think that she, you know,
05:15I said to her a couple of times,
05:16I'm like, you're really amazing
05:20of how she presents herself and how she talks.
05:22And again, this is not in front of the camera.
05:24This is just being a normal person.
05:27And she's just so, such a good person
05:30because it's not even how she wants to present herself.
05:32She's like taking care of other people
05:34and being thoughtful and listening.
05:35She's a good listener.
05:37And I said, wow, everything that you've been through
05:39and you're here.
05:41And she's like, you know, surrounded by good people.
05:44She's got a great relationship.
05:46And she just wants to persevere.
05:47And I feel similar for myself.
05:49Like I'm surrounded by great people.
05:51And you just have that like stubbornness of like,
05:53uh-uh, you're not going to do that to me.
05:55I'm going to continue and I'm going to be here.
05:58And those of you who want to misunderstand me,
06:00go ahead.
06:00They're literally, I'm done with trying to prove anything
06:02because it's exhausting and you're like,
06:05nothing is going to do it for you.
06:06And so then I'm going to go lean into the positivity
06:09and the good people and be like, let's go do this
06:11because that's like so not fun.
06:12And they're actually very small, even though they're loud.
06:14Yeah, yeah, totally.
06:15Well, I think that that's such a testament to who you are.
06:17Like I love following you on Instagram.
06:19You're always so fun and light and airy.
06:21And I know, you know, the last few years
06:22haven't always been the easiest.
06:24You know, how do you and even Alec like find that strength
06:27to just be positive and to, you know, be that light for people?
06:32I think a lot of it has to do with the fueling,
06:35the energy from our kids.
06:37Like we're surrounded by such like joyful little people all the time.
06:40Difficult sometimes.
06:41But like ultimately, like to see that youth and the playfulness,
06:44it's just such a beautiful thing.
06:46I think our communities, like, you know,
06:48we have amazing communities that we've grown online.
06:51And those people, it's, I may never meet them,
06:55but they give me so much strength, like my family, my friends.
07:01But then also understanding that we're all so much more similar
07:04than we are different.
07:05So I think when you're going through a hard time
07:07or somebody's mean to you or you're offended
07:09or whatever these things, it's easy to make it
07:11if you feel all alone, which is what they want you to feel.
07:15And then you realize how many people have that, you know,
07:20for lack of a better thing, Me Too experience of like, you know,
07:24in a different, you know, not in the Me Too world,
07:27but in the, yeah, I can relate to that as well.
07:30And that I think is a really important thing to realize.
07:36So by standing up every day and not letting it get me down
07:41and leaning into the positivity and turning down the negativity,
07:45I realize that I'm able to be a little bit of a beacon of light
07:48for other people who need that due,
07:50who might not have the same community that I do.
07:52Right, right.
07:53That's beautiful.
07:54And I was, you mentioned your kids before.
07:56You have such a beautiful family.
07:57Anthony Michael Hall was saying that he had his whole family
08:00out in Toronto when you guys were filming.
08:01Did you have the whole Baldwin clan out there?
08:03No, I did not.
08:05It was like, you know, I mean, it was so cute to watch him
08:08because we all stayed in the same hotel to watch his wife,
08:11who's gorgeous and funny and totally like runs that family.
08:16Oh, my gosh.
08:17She is the boss.
08:19And then, you know, their son, who's just cute,
08:23and they had their dog there.
08:24I was definitely a little jealous.
08:27I think it would have, it's hard to leave them.
08:29This was the first year that I've left my kids for projects.
08:32And so it was, but I think, I mean, I'm in my 40s now,
08:36and I'm very comfortable in relationship as mother and wife.
08:40And I think that sometimes, at least women,
08:44we can lose ourselves and we disconnect from our relationship
08:47with ourselves because we put ourselves in the back burner.
08:51So I've been trying a little bit more.
08:52I love to work.
08:53I love this space that I found myself working in.
08:56And I'm very grateful for it.
08:58And so I've been trying to lean into it,
08:59even though the balance, the juggle is real.
09:02The balance is hard.
09:03Yeah, totally.
09:04But, you know, we did see Alec in the trailer.
09:06We know that he's going to be in there.
09:08What can you tease about his cameo?
09:10And how do you think he would do on this show?
09:14I feel like it would be a mixed bag.
09:18Yeah.
09:19It'd be a mixed bag.
09:19Because it's so eclectic, the things that they ask us.
09:25And you can only know what you know.
09:27Right.
09:28And it was interesting to see how some of my castmates,
09:32they'd be like, oh, well, I would have known that if I were like,
09:34oh, I shouldn't have known.
09:36Nine times out of ten, I can guarantee you that I just will never have known that.
09:41Like, I would not have known that.
09:42I'm like, I can solidly say I did not know that question.
09:46And if the blue breeze is blowing in the opposite direction,
09:49I will still not know that question.
09:50There were a few moments where I was like, oh, you know.
09:55But very few.
09:57And I think with him, it just depends on what you're asking him about.
10:01Right.
10:01Do you know what I mean?
10:02And so, like, Alec is super smart.
10:04I think everybody on that show is super smart.
10:06That is true.
10:07Everybody was very smart.
10:08We just have our, like, niche things.
10:10Right, everyone's smart in different ways.
10:12It's more trivia rather than anything, you know.
10:14Right, right, exactly.
10:15And I feel like there's also a lot more pressure when you're in the moment
10:18to think about something.
10:19Because you've got, like, buzzers going off.
10:21You might be falling 20 feet.
10:23Yeah, no, loud noises.
10:26No, it was definitely, we're, like, afterwards, we're like,
10:28we're all trauma-ponded.
10:29We're like this.
10:30Exactly.
10:32Well, shifting gears a little bit, you know, one of those moments,
10:35I thought it was so funny when you asked if ROYGBIV was the acronym
10:38for Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
10:40I mean, I never heard that before.
10:44But that was one of those, I was like, well, again,
10:46I would never have known that.
10:47Nobody had ever told me that before.
10:50But, yeah, that was not a great moment for me.
10:52At the same time, I never thought it was.
10:54Like, you can only know what you know.
10:55Right, exactly.
10:56Well, you know what?
10:57That probably would have been where my mind went, too,
10:59right to Beverly Hills Housewives.
11:01Yeah, which is, like, way more useful.
11:05It's definitely used more in this world.
11:08Yes, exactly.
11:09Well, I know Andy Cohen, he said that he's talked to you about being on the Real Housewives
11:13of New York in the past.
11:14You know, why didn't that come to be?
11:16And is that something that you'd ever be open to doing in the future?
11:20I never say no.
11:22I never say no to possibilities.
11:27Who knows?
11:28Who knows where this little life is going to go to next?
11:33I mean, I love Andy.
11:36And I think that the more, when I entered Alex's world, it was like,
11:42I just didn't know, I didn't know which way was which way.
11:45And it was just, now I feel like I'm starting to get a handle on understanding it a little bit
11:51better.
11:51But there were moments where you just feel like you're under attack.
11:53And you're like, what?
11:54This is so scary.
11:55I want to hide under there and never come out.
11:58And so, you know, I think that in that space, holding your own,
12:02definitely my experience of going down to the Dominican Republic
12:05and shooting the show with all the ladies that I did for Amazon,
12:12that was a really good lesson as well.
12:17So all of these things, I mean, we're here to just hopefully get stronger every day.
12:23Yes, yes, absolutely.
12:24And I know, you know, we mentioned Dancing with the Stars before.
12:27You were a part of a very, very big season.
12:29We have another big season coming up.
12:31Sierra Miller is going to be on it.
12:32Maura Higgins is going to be on it.
12:34That's so exciting.
12:34You know, are you familiar with them?
12:35And what advice would you give them?
12:36I, unfortunately, this is my nation's dumbest moment.
12:41I'm not super familiar.
12:42And I'm just going to say that I have seven small kids and I get very tired.
12:47Fair, fair.
12:47So I, but I think that Dancing with the Stars is one of the most amazing experiences
12:54I've ever had in my life.
12:55And Dina Katz told me that.
12:57She's like, this is a finite period of time.
12:59So you just like soak it up and enjoy it.
13:00And for me, it was extra special in a particular way, not compared to everybody else,
13:04but extra special for me compared to other experiences.
13:06I'm not saying it was more special for me.
13:08Don't do that to me.
13:09Was because I danced before and it was cut so short and I break my hip and I couldn't
13:14walk and all of a sudden my life was like turned upside down.
13:17So my advice to them is just enjoy it.
13:20Even when you're like, my toenails just grew out to be like the regular color again.
13:24Like it's hard on your body, but it's such a beautiful experience.
13:28Enjoy it.
13:29Lean into it.
13:30Don't listen to the internet.
13:31Don't do it.
13:32Because I did.
13:32And it hurts your feelings.
13:35And just have so much fun.
13:37It is the people there.
13:38It is such a well-oiled machine.
13:40It's a very impressive set to be on.
13:43Everybody's so good at what they do.
13:44So just let them bring you for a ride and eat up every single minute.
13:48Are you still in touch with Gleb at all?
13:50Yes, all the time.
13:51How's he doing?
13:51I heard he might not be coming back next season.
13:53He might be.
13:54I think that they keep that all very like close, closed.
13:58I don't know.
14:01But I'm very grateful I got to dance with him and he and I will be buddies for life.
14:05Yes.
14:05Oh, I love that.
14:06Well, one last quick question for you.
14:07And we're going to round it back to Nation's Dumbest.
14:09Without giving anything away, how do you feel about where you landed in the show?
14:15About when you went home?
14:17I went on my journey.
14:19Okay.
14:19I went on my journey and it was what it was.
14:24And I stand by it.
14:27I love it.
14:27Well, it just means we get to see more of you and that's a treat for us.
14:31Maybe not.
14:32You never know when I'm going to graduate.
14:34That's true.
14:36Well, thank you so much for stopping by.
14:37It was so great to me.
14:38So great to chat with you.
14:39And I can't wait to see the rest of the show.
14:41Thank you so much.
14:42I really had fun.
