00:00I want to talk about sunscreen trends, trends in sunscreen, and whether you're actually seeing,
00:04you know, what we see on TikTok, people saying use sunscreen every day.
00:08Are you seeing that in the numbers, that sunscreen is no longer really a seasonal product,
00:13but something that people should be using every single day?
00:16Yeah, I mean, there are a lot of changing behaviors from a consumer perspective,
00:22especially awareness around health and also preventative health
00:27is really, truly changing how consumers behave when it comes to sun protection.
00:32And also consumers are becoming increasingly more aware of dangers of UV exposure.
00:38And we are seeing a significant behavioral shift in terms of turning sunscreen from a, you know,
00:45purchase occasion from a beach wear to an everyday routine, everyday essential routine.
00:50But the numbers are still, from a habit formation perspective, are still not there.
00:56Today in the U.S., only 12% of consumers use sunscreen every day,
01:01opposed to majority use it on an occasional basis.
01:05And when you're actually thinking about, like, when you look at perception, awareness versus the reality,
01:11there's a significant gap as well.
01:14Recently, American Dermatology Association did a survey and actually found that 16 million U.S. consumers
01:23stop using sunscreen altogether because of the misinformation online channels, like TikTok, for example.
01:29Well, I want to ask also about price because, you know, you were at Amazon.
01:34You know about the idea of a dupe here that, you know, there's sunscreens, there's the original,
01:39invisible super group, and then there's dupes out there that cost much less.
01:45How do you kind of compete with all of the other sunscreen products out there when some of your sunscreen
01:49does cost,
01:50you know, $30, $40 for just a small bottle?
01:53Yeah.
01:53I mean, we've been innovating in this industry for two-plus decades.
01:58And as you said in the beginning, we have been a category disruptive.
02:02We created the invisible sunscreen category with our unseen sunscreen.
02:07I think, yes, some brands choose to, you know, dupe our look,
02:15but I don't think it is actually duping our formulas because what matters is actually the product efficacy,
02:23the safety of the formula that you use.
02:25And when it comes to sunscreen, I think it's particularly very important that the highest ingredients
02:31and the safety and testing comes into play.
02:34You've been doing this, or the company has been doing this for a couple of decades.
02:38The founder left last year.
02:40You took over as the new CEO.
02:43There's been a lot of questions about what the future of the company is.
02:46Are there plans to go public at all?
02:49I mean, I've just landed.
02:50It's been almost eight months.
02:52And I am very much aligned with our investor company who's invested in Supergroup back in late 2021 in terms
03:02of...
03:03That's Blackstone.
03:03...what's our objective, yes, what's our long-term value creation objective for Supergroup is.
03:09Strategically, our focus is actually building a sustainable, scalable global brand
03:15where we continue to drive mission of helping consumers use sunscreen every day.
03:21Currently, you know, my focus in the next few years is to continue to build that business momentum and growth.
03:28But you have a lot of experience.
03:29I mean, you ran Amazon's health and beauty business for a lot.
03:33So you have the perspective of large-scale sales.
03:36What gets Supergroup to even larger-scale sales?
03:39Is it a wider variety of products or just a wider variety of users of the existing products?
03:45Yeah, I think from a category perspective, as I said, the penetration of everyday use is very low.
03:51There is a significant opportunity for, I think, all brands, not only Supergroup,
03:56is to really drive the mission of everyday usage of sunscreen.
04:00Because one in five Americans, unfortunately, experience skin cancer in their lifetime.
04:05So the dangers and the risks associated not using sunscreen is very real.
04:09So my focus is, from a Supergroup perspective, continue to drive penetration of new consumers
04:16whilst we are also driving strong loyalty and repeat with our existing customers.
04:21Again, over the past two decades, we've built a very loyal and strong customer base.
