00:00The multifaceted nature of game development often means motion capture and voice artists
00:04have limited context for their scenes, as much was true for the mocap performers on
00:09Claire Obscure Expedition 33 involved in the ending, but the game's director's reaction
00:15may have given them a clue. Maxon's Cazorla, performance capture artist for Verso and Renoir,
00:21spoke about performing the final scenes for Behind the Voice.
00:24I remember Guillaume Broche, the game's director, didn't give us much information for Verso's final scene,
00:31and I remember Guillaume tearing up and feeling very emotional. The direction he and scene partner
00:37Estelle Darnot, who played Arlene, received boiled down to estranged lovers finally reunited after a
00:44long time apart. Obviously there's a lot more to it, but that was all Sandfall could share in order
00:50to get the actors into the right headspace. We were like, alright, what's going on here,
00:55because we're not saying anything, Cazorla continues. That was very special, because after,
01:01we learned that was the ending of the game. Seeing how it affected Guillaume and how that scene was
01:06important to him, it made it special for us. I'll spare you the spoilers, but Renoir and Arlene
01:12embrace in a way that really drives a dagger through your heart at the story's climax.
01:17Whatever other guidance Broche could have given, him tearing up was all the cast needed to understand
01:23the scene's gravitas.
01:24I'll see you next time.
