A Platypus is one of the world’s most extraordinary mammals, famous for its duck-like bill, webbed feet, beaver-like tail, and otter-like body. Native to eastern Australia and Tasmania, it is one of only a few egg-laying mammals, known as monotremes.
Platypuses are excellent swimmers, using their webbed feet to glide through rivers and streams while hunting insects, worms, freshwater shrimp, and other small aquatic animals. They can detect the tiny electrical signals produced by the muscles of their prey, allowing them to hunt even with their eyes, ears, and nostrils closed underwater.
