00:11I mean, the WNBA, give me your overall sense here
00:15heading into that All-Star Game,
00:17Kaitlin Clark and the storyline and the saga.
00:19You and I have chronicled it.
00:21We've talked about it.
00:22What do you make of the whole thing
00:24and how the thing has really come to a head there
00:25at the All-Star Game?
00:28Well, I thought Kaitlin Clark came out gutting.
00:30I mean, she had about three or four logo threes,
00:32shot the ball extremely well early on,
00:34kind of cooled off a little bit later in the game.
00:36But the league needed that game to have some juice behind it
00:40because it's not going to be a lot of defense, right?
00:42So you look for storylines.
00:43So Kaitlin Clark getting going early was fantastic.
00:48Record-breaking crowd over 19,000 people, I should say,
00:52at the United Center.
00:54So it was a good night for the WNBA.
00:56Listen, Big Seals, the league is doing well
01:00because of their stars, because of Kaitlin Clark,
01:03because of Paige Beckers, because of Asia Wilson, right?
01:07The league is doing well.
01:09It's the commissioner that's the issue.
01:11And that's the issue that I think everybody's had
01:14at Big Seals.
01:15It's come out.
01:15I said it to you weeks ago.
01:17I said she's not going to make it through this season.
01:19Well, they're already saying there's people reports
01:21saying that she's not going to make it to 2027.
01:23She's dismissive.
01:25She's divisive.
01:26She had a press conference last night.
01:28No one asked her about Kaitlin Clark.
01:29We know about the Dan Patrick situation.
01:32I mean, for the first time in year 30, Big Seals,
01:36that league is making money.
01:38I mean, they're about to prick money.
01:40And this lady, single-handedly, could get in the way.
01:44They've got to find a way to either get her under control
01:47and get it going the right way and be the spokesman for the league
01:50or move her aside and bring someone else in
01:53to continue to build up that league.
01:56Tell me this, then.
01:57So they're successful in spite of themselves,
02:01is what you're saying here and management.
02:03When does the NBA and Adam Silver,
02:06I heard some noise last week with him making noise.
02:10J-Way, when do they get involved in this?
02:12Because, look, every owner knows and wants to make money.
02:16And like you said, for 28 years, J-Way, that thing lost money.
02:21It was hemorrhaging money.
02:23Now they're making dough.
02:25When do they step in and say,
02:26hey, we've got to put a new figurehead in there,
02:29and we've got to get another commissioner in there.
02:31And maybe who would you think would be that person
02:34that would take that role from her
02:37and put someone in there that would move the league forward?
02:42Honestly, I would look at a former player.
02:44I know that sounds crazy.
02:45Get an executive team around someone like a Sue Bird or a Tarazi,
02:49someone that's been around the game,
02:51a Cynthia Cooper, a Teresa Weatherspoon,
02:53or even have some kind of leadership council
02:55of former WNBA players that could be that liaison
02:59between the commissioner and the players
03:01because that game is very much about giving the game back.
03:04I'll say this right now, Big Sills.
03:06You don't think Adam Silver is involved in this now behind the scenes?
03:10I mean, listen, at the end of the day,
03:12when you come down to a business,
03:13one thing you don't do, you don't play with people's money.
03:17And if the WNBA messes up,
03:20they're going to mess with the NBA's money.
03:23They're not going to handle that well, Big Sills.
03:26So that's why I think Adam Silver is maybe behind the scenes
03:29trying to maybe help Kathy.
03:31But if they don't figure that they can get it done,
03:34they're going to bring someone else in there
03:36because at the end of the day,
03:37NBA's making money, WNBA's making money,
03:40and they're going to allow the commissioner to ruin it for everybody.
03:44And you know what?
03:45The other storyline here is, J.Y.,
03:47it's been a really good year.
03:49There's been some compelling stories outside of Kaitlyn Clark.
03:53Am I right?
03:54Well, it's been a great story.
03:56Valkyries in year two,
03:57you can look at the performance of Olivia Miles,
04:00who I said should have been the number one draft pick over AZ Fudd,
04:03although AZ's playing well.
04:05Dallas is playing well.
04:06Jessica Shepard's having a career year.
04:09But there's one team that's not playing well,
04:11and that's the New York Liberty.
04:12Now, last night,
04:13John Quill Jones got named WNBA MVP of the All-Star Game.
04:17I will maintain this, and I've said this.
04:19It's not Sabrina Inescu.
04:21It's not Brianna Stewart.
04:22It's not Satu Sabli.
04:24But the guy, the lady that stirs that drink is John Quill Jones.
04:28If Double J plays the way that Double J will play,
04:30then Liberty will find a way and win the WNBA championship.
04:34But if he shoots threes like Bill A. Beer,
04:37that ain't going to happen.
