04:35Jeff.
04:54the 29.
05:05And now out on the field, here comes Los Angeles.
05:08And last time able to get three.
05:10That's not what they wanted.
05:12They wanted six, but they got at least something.
05:14They mustered something out of the drive.
05:16They'll take it.
05:17I like the way you've described it.
05:19Not ideal, but they'll take it.
05:21Anything to put some points on the board.
05:23But this time on offense,
05:25they don't even want to see the field goal kicker trot on the field.
05:27They want that ball in the end zone.
05:29Yeah, they'll be going for six.
05:31A lot of tight ends just use their size and their strength,
05:33try to occupy some space and kind of body people away
05:36and catch the football.
05:38But not this guy.
05:39He's a refined route runner.
05:40Makes me wonder if he took some dance classes
05:42in his background with his foot.
05:44Look at his tie for ones, and it's intercepted.
05:47Picked off at the 38.
05:51And he takes this one back into the end zone,
05:55and the Cowboy defense has a touchdown.
06:04Around the NFL, they're in the second quarter at Lambeau.
06:07It's the Lions that have grabbed the early lead.
06:10That one tight to this point,
06:12and you'd have to imagine it'll stay tight throughout.
06:24And the Rams getting set to go now.
06:41After the pick six, they go right back to the air.
06:46And lucky to get away with one there.
06:48That one nearly picked.
06:50Second down.
06:52Pretty fortunate there.
06:54The interception that ended the last drive,
06:56and then, boom, the first pass here almost picked on this drive.
06:59Yeah, I think you could definitely call him the question.
07:01It's decision-making here in the first half.
07:03Certainly not the best of decisions there.
07:05Lucky that one wasn't picked.
07:06And he's able to get this one up to the 45-yard line.
07:11The good pick up there of 20 yards.
07:14I know many people like to throw to the tight end,
07:17maybe in a little flexed-out position
07:19because he creates mismatches with his size.
07:21But slot receivers do the same thing with their quickness,
07:24their speed, and their route-running savvy.
07:36On first down, it's Gurley.
07:40And taking it across midfield and inside the 45.
07:4511 more yards that go around.
07:47A first down as well.
07:48I'm okay with the call there.
07:50In fact, I actually like it.
07:51I know they're down a couple of scores.
07:53But the running game worked in that situation.
07:55I would continue to go in that direction.
07:59Forced out to his left.
08:01Looking left side.
08:02It's complete.
08:03He's got it.
08:04And he'll get it down here to the 43.
08:07Just a yard on the catch there.
08:09It'll be second and nine.
08:10The goal of a wide receiver screen
08:12is get enough blockers in front to create a wall
08:14and let him pick his spot to run the football.
08:16How about the defense there, swarming to it
08:19and not allowing that to happen.
08:21Did not let him get downfield.
08:22And the hit jarred it loose.
08:24It's incomplete.
08:27Let's face it.
08:27If you want to get back into the game,
08:29these are the kind of throws you've got to hit.
08:31He's wide open right there.
08:32Got to be able to get it to him, don't you think?
08:34And those are the throws that haven't been available to them
08:37every time he's dropped a pass.
08:38Yeah, that's a big miss.
08:40And incomplete.
08:41The contact made the ball roam free
08:43and brings up four.
08:47And now out on the field, here comes Los Angeles.
08:51And down on the scoreboard,
08:53certainly needing to avoid what happened
08:55on the last drive, punting the football.
08:57Sense of urgency has to take over for them here.
09:00They know the score.
09:01They know the situation.
09:03And by the way,
09:04the punter no longer exists for their offense.
09:06That's how they have to treat this drive.
09:08They need points.
09:09Big time.
09:10Nothing open downfield.
09:11He keeps it himself for 11 and a first down.
09:15Man, defensively, that hurts.
09:16They got him out of his rhythm.
09:18They had him hemmed in.
09:19But somehow he was able to tuck it away
09:21and get away for a gain.
09:23They got a man over the middle.
09:24It's Woods.
09:26Five yards on the catch there.
09:28Brings up second down.
09:29In recent years,
09:30the slot receivers really gain stature in the NFL
09:32because they can do so many things.
09:34Yes, they can line up wide like your normal wide receiver.
09:37But to have that kind of courage and toughness
09:39to run routes in the middle of the field
09:41and become dependable targets for their quarterbacks
09:43and move the sticks,
09:44those guys are worth their weight in gold.
09:46The Rams on third down.
09:49Just one for three thus far.
09:50This is third and four.
09:52We know today's NFL is really built around the guy
09:54throwing the football.
09:55But these short runs,
09:57they still pay dividends
09:58because they can take their toll on a defense
10:00and they can add up as the game goes along.
10:03They control the clock.
10:04They control the ball.
10:05And that way, you often control the game.
10:08Would it be safe to say that as precise as routes
10:10are supposed to be run in the NFL,
10:13maybe they're not quite as precise in college ball?
10:15That's accurate, yeah.
10:17And I think we saw a college route in the NFL there.
10:20Just find the soft spot, find the dead zone,
10:23and find the first down.
10:25And that's what he just did.
10:27Here we go!
10:29They'll drop to Crowe.
10:31Able to fight through one tackle.
10:33Dancing to his left.
10:35And getting this just shy of midfield,
10:38they'll spot it at the 49.
10:40Nothing open downfield.
10:42He keeps it himself for 11 and a first down.
10:45Partner, as a quarterback,
10:46sometimes you just got to know
10:47when the clock has gone off in your head,
10:49it's time to go.
10:51Tuck it and get all you can.
10:53Now a play fake here on first down.
10:56And it pops free.
10:58The collision there jarred the ball loose
11:00and brings up second down.
11:03You get a tight end like this,
11:04and you know he's used to dishing out punishment,
11:06but here, he's the one that has to absorb the contact.
11:09And as a result, unable to hold on to the football.
11:13And he will find his man on the outside.
11:16And he'll be brought down at the 45-yard line.
11:19Six yards is the pickup,
11:21and that'll lead to a third down.
11:22Not a big window to throw.
11:24Coverage wasn't too bad there.
11:26Yeah, they had him under wraps pretty well,
11:27but somehow able to muscle his way open
11:29and catch the ball.
11:31Looking to throw.
11:33Flush to his right.
11:34He may try and run for this.
11:36And he's going to have the first down yardage to the 35.
11:40Give him 10 that time,
11:42escaping the danger,
11:43running with it,
11:44and picking up a first down.
11:46On third and short,
11:47not only did he get away from the rush
11:48and pick up a first down,
11:49he picked up a whole lot more than that.
11:51And how did he get it done?
11:53Evaded the rush.
11:54Kept his poise.
11:55And then how about him directing traffic
11:57as he moved downfield
11:58to pick up extra blockers.
11:59A really nice run.
12:01A big hitter there.
12:02A first down gain of 26 yards.
12:05When big runs occur,
12:07sometimes there's a sense
12:08that things were pretty easy,
12:09and that one carried him down inside the 10.
12:11But getting into the end zone now,
12:13that won't be easy at all
12:14because you're going to face different defenses
12:16and not as much real estate to work with.
12:19Will they be able to run it,
12:20or will they have to throw it
12:21in order to try and score?
12:22And that gets him three yards closer here
12:24as it brings up second and goal.
12:27Let's go!
12:28Turn out 38!
12:29Cut!
12:30The play-action fake.
12:31They'll look to throw.
12:33And his throw is incomplete.
12:36Gerald Everett is tied in,
12:38the intended receiver,
12:39and it's third and five.
12:41Well, one thing that I've liked defensively
12:42is that they've shown them
12:43a lot of different looks here in the first half.
12:45They've come after him.
12:46They've sat back.
12:47I think that's what you need to do
12:48to keep an offense guessing.
12:49And they certainly have kept him on their toes.
12:51That's why they haven't had much success.
12:53And this is caught.
12:55He's got it.
12:56Touchdown, L.A.
12:58Gerald Everett, his sixth touchdown.
13:07And now out on the field,
13:09here comes Los Angeles.
13:10And that last drive,
13:12it was all about the ground game.
13:14Ground and pound.
13:15And I don't care.
13:16And the Cowboys' pressure gets there this time.
13:19for the sack.
13:20David Irving.
13:22He's the one to get him.
13:23And that's sack number seven for him on the year.
13:31Now on second down, this is Gurley.
13:36And he showcases the spin.
13:38A pretty good game before he's taken down.
13:41And now a timeout called by the Cowboys' defense.
13:45It's just their first,
13:46so they'll have two remaining here
13:47before we get to halftime.
13:49Here we go.
13:50One, two, three, three, three, three, four.
13:53On third down, he'll drop to throw.
13:55Looking deep downfield.
13:57He wifles one that's intercepted.
14:00Picked off, Byron Jones.
14:02And they will finally get him
14:04as he's all the way down near the 40-yard line.
14:09He has been interception-prone here in his rookie season.
14:13How patient can they be with him?
14:22The Rams' offense now making their way out to take over.
14:26They have the ball here for the inaugural drive
14:28of the second half.
14:29Pretty big deficit, though.
14:31We'll see what adjustments were made in that locker room.
14:34And I never want to make something more important
14:37than it actually is, right?
14:38I don't want to create more hype than what is there.
14:41But you're going to do that?
14:42I'm doing it, though.
14:42This is a really important drive.
14:45And we often talk about teams scripting plays
14:47to start a game.
14:48A lot of them script to start the second half, too.
14:51And they're scripting something that they expect
14:53to get them into the end zone and back into this game.
14:55We'll see if that script is a good one for them.
14:58The intended receiver, Tavon Austin,
15:00at his third and short.
15:02The man's getting a little loose with the football there, right?
15:04Interception before.
15:05Almost had one here.
15:07He's got to start taking better care of it.
15:08Yeah, really should have been back-to-back drives
15:11with interceptions.
15:12He's lucky there.
15:13Let's go!
15:14Off the play fake.
15:16He'll look to throw.
15:17Flushed out right.
15:20And he couldn't hang on to it through the contact.
15:24Incomplete.
15:34And the Rams now coming out on the field.
15:37And they're coming off a three and out, my friend.
15:40They're going to get a look at that play sheet
15:42and go to a spot that they haven't gone before.
15:45Time to shake things up a little bit
15:46to try and get this offense moving.
15:48Okay, so how do you do that?
15:49How do you shake things up?
15:50You look at what you've called before,
15:52realize it hasn't worked so well.
15:54Go to something else.
15:54And maybe you try and find one of those special players
15:57for one of your better players.
15:58And maybe try and hit something big
16:00and get things going in the excitement area.
16:02Bindt time to his left.
16:04He finds an opening past the 40.
16:06And he takes this one all the way across midfield
16:09into enemy territory down to the 40-yard line.
16:13Big yardage there on the scramble.
16:15It gets him a first down.
16:17Partner, it's often that man coverage is easier
16:20for a quarterback to run against.
16:22You get your receivers going downfield.
16:24Those guys are staying with him.
16:25And oftentimes, they have their back to the quarterback,
16:28which opens up a lot of space and room.
16:30And they don't even know that he's taking off with it.
16:32What a big-time pickup on that play.
16:35They got 29 yards that time.
16:38And at this stage, down in the second half,
16:40looks like they just wanted to find a way
16:41to get it in the hands of their playmaker, and they did.
16:44I think you're exactly right.
16:45I don't think the coordinator's looking at us.
16:47And no escaping this time as he'll go down.
16:50They got him for a sack.
16:52It's interesting, partner, that most defenses
16:54try and guard the 35-yard line actively
16:57because they think the way kickers are nowadays,
17:00about a 52-yard field goal, they're kind of giving up points.
17:03But you get even deeper into territory,
17:05you get into the red zone, they're going to guard it even more,
17:07which means more pressure, more blitzing.
17:10Firing quickly here, and that's complete.
17:12And he'll get it here to the 10-yard line.
17:15Eight yards on the completion, but now they face third down.
17:18When you execute a drag or a crossing route really well
17:21and give them a chance to let it develop a little bit,
17:25you can gain some significant yardage
17:26hitting your tight end on that one.
17:30And this is going to be intercepted.
17:33Picked up by the linebacker, Jalen Smith.
17:37Gosh, you add up last week.
17:45And now out on the field, here comes Los Angeles.
17:49And three interceptions in this game.
17:51I would have to think, I wasn't a quarterback,
17:54but number four is kind of, oh, you're like, oh, man, I can't throw four.
17:58No, and what's interesting is, what do the coaches decide to do now?
18:01Having thrown three, do you alter your offensive strategy?
18:04Do you take the ball out of his hands and maybe turn to the running game?
18:07Or do you have that supreme confidence that he's going to turn things around?
18:11We'll see what they do.
18:13They'll run it now, out of the gun.
18:15Pushing forward for three up to the 48.
18:31Out of the gun.
18:33They'll look to throw.
18:35And incomplete there.
18:37A nice hit.
18:38Jars the ball free and brings up third down.
18:43Another wayward pass.
18:44You know, things started out poorly in this game.
18:46And, to be frank, they just really haven't gotten much better.
18:49And all that does is embolden the secondary.
18:52They feel good about what's going on.
18:54And they just play better and better.
18:56And give them seven yards on the play.
18:58And they do pick up the conversion on third down.
19:01Well, partner, I know this type of running back.
19:04I mean, this size, this intensity usually gets better as the game goes on.
19:09I can just tell you from experience.
19:10The first few quarters, you're eager.
19:12You come running up there, and I'm going to tackle this guy.
19:14By the fourth quarter, you're coming up and thinking about it.
19:17And D-line wearing down fourth quarter.
19:20Yeah, that's not a guy they want to see consistently.
19:31So, second and ten here.
19:34Touch it.
19:35Touch it.
19:37Come on, let's go.
19:38Touch it.
19:39They'll set up to throw.
19:42Quick hitter here.
19:43It's complete.
19:44And he'll go down here at the 35-yard line.
19:47And they'll get nine there as that sets him up better for third down.
19:51When you see zone defense and you know you've got a drag route on as your primary call,
19:55you've got to be really careful as a passer about how far you let your guy go
19:59because he might wander into some tough coverage.
20:02They're going to look to throw.
20:04And that is incomplete.
20:07Perhaps they overthought this one a little bit.
20:09They've been running it real well on this drive.
20:11And it was third and short.
20:13Okay?
20:14They decided to throw the football.
20:16Incomplete.
20:17Yeah, they might have thought just a little bit too hard about that play selection.
20:21They're running with Gurley.
20:23And I'm not sure he got there.
20:25Did they stop him?
20:27They did.
20:28Sean McVay's gamble does not pay.
20:43They'll try and start this drive in the air.
20:48And his pass is intercepted for the fourth time today.
20:52Picked off at the 39.
20:54And his guys are going to take over at the 39.
20:59On the NFL scoreboard, they've gone to the fourth in Cincinnati.
21:03It's the Bengals that have moved back in front now in a seesaw fair.
21:07Giovanni Bernard leading the way on the ground.
21:10He's up to 95 yards rushing thus far.
21:12He couldn't quite hold it.
21:14Got hit.
21:15Ball pops out.
21:17Incomplete.
21:18Brandon, at least there's one bright side to that incompletion.
21:21What's that?
21:22It wasn't an interception.
21:24Wow.
21:25You're a nice guy.
21:27That was kind of savage.
21:29But correct.
21:30No pick, just incomplete that time.
21:33Time for a break.
21:34This one, all over but the shouting.
21:37We'll finish it after this.
21:39So it's Rams football here as we get your reset.
21:42And let's see what they've come up with offensively after having time to talk it over.
21:47He'll drop to throw.
21:50And he will go down.
21:52A Cowboys sack.
21:54David Irving in there to get him.
21:57And that's sack number eight for him on the year.
22:00They're going to need to get up and set in a hurry.
22:09As expected, they're going for it to keep the drive alive.
22:13And my goodness, another interception.
22:17Picked off by the former first round pick, Kevin Johnson.
22:20And he takes this one back into the end zone.
22:24And the Cowboys...
22:28Here's a Los Angeles offense as they get set to take possession.
22:33They've lost this one.
22:34Their offense has struggled.
22:36Do they try to put together something here at the end just to take into next week?
22:40Yeah, sometimes teams want to do that and coaches want to.
22:42I remember one time I was on a team and we were losing late in the game like this.
22:47And you knew it was lost.
22:47It was over, right?
22:48And the coach called a running play and pretty much said to everyone,
22:53I want to see something executed well before we get out of here.
22:57And that was the message to the team.
22:59Just something to build on.
23:00Just something to build on.
23:01Get it done.
23:02And maybe we can look at that and say, we'll get better as we go forward.
23:05And taking it across midfield and inside the 45.
23:10That one goes for 13 yards and it moves the sticks.
23:14Hey, left, hey, left.
23:16Hey, left.
23:18Back to throw now on first down.
23:21He's going to dump it off to Gurley.
23:23And he'll get it inside the 40 to the 39.
23:26It's a gain of five on the play.
23:28And that'll bring up second down.
23:31Everyone's got to be able to catch the football.
23:33Doesn't matter what position you play.
23:35But if you're on offense, be aware.
23:37A ball may come your way.
23:51Uses the stiff arm.
23:53A fourth quarter score from the Meadowlands.
23:56And give that one to the Texans.
23:59It's a ball.
24:03I'm off, I'm off.
24:05Get off of here.
24:06Get off, get off.
