02:24with you because you're the guest all right all right come on give us your
02:28unpopular opinion my unpopular opinion is the fact that hoochie daddy shorts look
02:33good as hell whenever a nigga is in shape okay so we're giving these a thumbs up
02:41or a thumbs down and I'm haters gonna hate
02:43boo I'm sorry give me the great sweat pants
02:49it's male lingerie I want to see a swang you know you can see a swang in them shorts too
02:55if he likes that lay up to your neck let it fly I need to see the side me busting
03:01out the
03:01yeah okay I just want to see all that I don't know I'm hating right okay just me then I'll
03:12take
03:12male lingerie any day watch out for that line okay next what who we got who we
03:16got Maya what's up y'all I'm Maya Carmichael from the beautiful beautiful South Duval
03:22County stand up we out here ayo um I want black girls to have a soft life and that's on
03:29theory
03:31yeah I am okay come on Chelsea no no you want us to be oppressed so bad I promise I
03:37promise I'm just
03:38saying what if I want to go hoard I'm just asking that's still a soft life is that soft yeah
03:44soft is
03:45what you define it as is this a generational thing because I don't know if I identify she
03:48want to be a strong whatever whatever put me at peace is soft if you a ho and that put
03:53you at peace
03:53that soft but the pictures I'm seeing are all ah that's what they like to do my name that's
03:58good to mind they business this is our business you know what you want to do okay you know what
04:03come on hey there we go there we go yeah very rare very rare okay next up who we got
04:11huh I think
04:12I'm next uh I'm Kathleen I'm bringing it from the six as usual I'm Canadian if you guys have seen
04:19me
04:19today I've said that like a million times but that's okay anyway any Torontonians no okay um
04:27my unpopular opinion is that even though Michael B Jordan is my future second ex-husband
04:33she has a husband like right now yeah that's why I said second ex-husband um I am team Lori
04:40Harvey in this breakup the way people were talking about Lori when she has just dated a regular amount
04:47of dudes and if she breaks up with them that's okay that's allowed the vitriol that Lori got I
04:54gotta be team Lori even though MBJ is my man I mean I feel like it's all fake like do
05:01we think that
05:01they were really together so I'm not against anyone but like who cares it was fake it was not it
05:08was fake
05:08they look beautiful but it's fake beautiful gowns I say the more she continue to date the more she's
05:15going to stay relevant I'm looking forward to the next relationship okay okay okay okay okay next
05:25okay um me my hot take is I want y'all to start posting your partners on Instagram one because
05:32I'm nosy one but two because I want to see who's loving black women I want to see black people
05:37loving
05:37each other not everybody said no wait a minute you in my business why yes I'm being nosy but I
05:46want to
05:47know about you being in love you pay our bills I'm trying to pray for y'all y'all don't
05:53want to share
05:53nothing but negativity show me your man y'all sometimes a lot of us don't want to show our
05:59mans because the moment that we post them everybody like oh I know him he was just at your house
06:05last
06:05night I want to be in love and I want my heart to be safe and I just want to
06:10be dumb until I decide to
06:12get past you know what it is though I feel like men always mess up when you post them right
06:16oh that's
06:16why we not posted you said all right I never mind I'm not gonna show him either whatever oh no
06:23I
06:23mean it's full Easter egg energy like until we get married then what not even when I had a kid
06:29yeah when I get married yeah before that we're playing like what is this okay boom all right my
06:36last one I'm real unpopular here so good luck with this one um okay my unpopular opinion is that
06:44I didn't even say it I can read I'm out here reading shit let me say it and then defend
06:51it come on
06:53okay but I said objectively ugly as in it's still we're still wearing it I'm wearing it right now but
07:00objectively the xenon fashion which we love is not the mood she's right she should say it she should
07:12the fashions of the 2000s of Y2K they're back for a reason and also the things that you're wearing
07:20now that you're like that's so ugly crop tops are so cute in 20 years come at me when someone
07:27says
07:27that's ugly fashion comes back around being ugly a little bit is the point so we're supposed to be
07:33ugly for fashion yeah yeah some of it but you and Mike are fashion business no I don't even know
07:39what
07:39that is let the kids get a hold of this two piece in 20 years give me 90s give me
07:4480s even like bad
07:45like wearing a skirt over your jeans that was never that's Y2K fashion that's one top one part yes it
07:53is so ugly we survived so much we're better than that let's move on let it go it looks bad
08:00I don't
08:00like it Chelsea's right thank you okay all right so now y'all got a sense of what we do
08:06here who we
08:07are our opinions both popular and un and now we want to get into some real conversation all right
08:13like this is what we do on the podcast we talk we joke we vibe and in the spirit of
08:18this event we
08:19want to talk about glow-ups we want to talk about what that means for us what we're doing and
08:23so just
08:24to refresh y'all this is the actual definition of a glow-up oh that's a lot of words you
08:30can
08:30read it okay but boom that's good good for that slide but the point is is that we also want
08:40to
08:40show you some of our gloves because we're here again it's a safe space all right so in honor of
08:45unbothered turning five we're going to show you a couple pictures of us five years ago you see the
08:50material now still killing it objectively yeah you know and then we're going to tell you a little bit
08:56about what we think about glow-ups so we want y'all to think about what you guys think too
09:01we got that
09:02mic over there so we're going to be hitting it over to you and making sure we can have a
09:06full
09:06conversation so hit that powerpoint okay yeah here i am okay okay here's here's my it's another
09:15unpopular opinion i think but i don't even know if i believe in the concept of a glow-up and
09:21here's why
09:22i think that we are now living in a social media society and society in general where you are constantly
09:28expected to get better and also physically as we age we're supposed to look better i'm supposed to look
09:33better five years from now than i do now i was supposed to look better than i did five years
09:38ago
09:38and you know what look at that waist five years ago i'll look better than i did back then and
09:43that's
09:43okay though no i'm not trying to be self-deprecating i'm saying that it is okay if you glow up
09:49in a
09:49different way or if you're not like this completely better different person more fit whatever in five
09:56years that's all right too okay why i always got to be glowing up i'm tired i don't want to
10:01glow up
10:02anymore should we change the name of the event not the not your man not the glow down
10:08exactly like we're already here the merch was already perfect exactly you had weeks to say
10:15something right like should we go home whatever i know it's just a no glow yeah okay there we go
10:21no glow new merch out tomorrow all right who got next come on maya
10:33just a small step just a small step unlike kathleen i don't know what she's talking about
10:40okay i don't know what that what that is about but but for me is internal and then it shows
10:46on
10:46the outside for me so i had to get my mind right and it showed on the outside so i
10:51don't let anybody
10:52put me on a timetable i'm gonna grow and glow when i decide to do so so that it sticks
10:56for me
10:57so i don't care about five years i don't care about 10 years all i can do is say okay
11:02i'm here
11:03now where was i five years ago that's better than i was five years ago so i did something a
11:08small step
11:09means more than just you know reaching those ultimate goals you a bad chick you're gonna reach
11:14it maybe not right now but you're gonna reach it come on pastor car michael we said the same thing
11:24baby boom okay
11:26i know i think that's fair and again true spirit of maya like taurus energy like that's it
11:31shut it down that's all she did okay and then let's come on yeah
11:36yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah but one thing about my good sister it was always giving fame
11:42always it was always giving fame that part you know what i captioned this picture i said what kind
11:47of sun you use that was the caption it was really giving something to me okay hi y'all
11:52i'm nate komonibo culture critic and uh yeah yeah yeah and i'm from houston texas any houston in the
11:59house not three people okay that's fine that's okay it doesn't matter okay but for me the glow up
12:05is also like my very internal but i think it's about claiming space and taking that space five
12:10years ago i was in that chaotic space in my life where i was like i'm just gonna wake up
12:14and do
12:15whatever right life is gonna take me wherever i'm gonna blow like the wind i guess i have this job
12:19i
12:19guess i'm dating this person i guess i live here i guess i gotta cut my hair i cut my
12:23hair because
12:24somebody messed up my hair at the barbershop right but after that i shaved my head and i kept
12:28shaving it obviously i have hair now but that's because of intention i set the intention if i'm
12:33going to be bald i'm going to be bald for as long as i want to be bald then i'm
12:36going to grow my hair
12:37out if i want to work this job i'm going to get the job job and do whatever if i
12:41want to date this
12:41man i'm gonna date this man and i'm gonna be the best version of myself possible so it's all about
12:47like speaking those things and not being afraid to claim them and hold them and even i think a step
12:52further telling people about those things that you want because sometimes you're like if i talk about
12:57this it's going to get messed up if i tell anyone about this i have to take responsibility if it
13:01doesn't work out um and so now i'm like yeah i'm dating this man god please don't let him play
13:06me
13:06don't let whatever please please i'm praying but i'm like yeah me and my boyfriend yeah me and my job
13:11right but i'm very excited about it and so i want to live in that pride and that happiness
13:16so i'm just taking that space i'm having a good time yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah and they used to
13:25say
13:25that she would never mention a man oh yes i'm in a relationship yeah yes and that's why y'all
13:32not
13:32gonna see my man i want to see y'all's man wow really let me just put that out i'm
13:37not showing
13:38you i'll put him on my close friends but the street's not gonna see him yeah you argued a
13:44whole ass point out here but okay yeah that's fair because again i literally run this shit and i do
13:50no social media took me 10 years to find a photo of myself from five years ago this one is
13:55my head
13:56shot y'all but my blow-up energy is mostly like i know who i am i know who i
14:02was i know who i am and
14:03who's i am like my grandma always said so i don't need a glow up i am the glow like
14:09that's the whole
14:13story like i and i think some days i feel like a hundred some days i feel like a thousand
14:18but i'm
14:18still at a hundred yeah like and the thousand days just mean catch up so that's my energy even though
14:25it sounds wild and absurd because i never show it but that's what i'm living so i don't need to
14:31tell
14:31y'all you you see it you see it that's what it looked like yeah yeah okay lala come on
14:38tell us
14:39about about you
14:47listen listen you know she's known for the bob for the bob for the bob for the bob
14:5410s 10s 10s 10 listen come on come on honey no no no no let me tell you something you
15:05know she's known for the bob
15:06how say your name bob and they're calling you bob
15:12so let me tell you first of all i was never ugly i was just broke okay
15:20i need to repeat it repeat it repeat it one more time one more time one more time for the
15:24people
15:24all right so a glow up for me is inward and outward i specifically chose this picture because
15:32that was my job like i was on the job and literally saying everything intentionally
15:39about what i wanted to do everything i wanted to be this is everything that i claimed for myself at
15:45that
15:46time okay that person right there i was not comfortable with myself i had a low self-esteem i was
15:55always seeking validation you know today i am so opposite of that but i love looking at pictures
16:03like this because i dreamt of these days and these days and now i'm living a dream that i saw
16:10for myself
16:11yeah yeah don't make a whole crap on this stage that's why we're here we bring you know listen
16:19we might have to though because when was that point that you were like but this is it this is
16:24me i
16:25can do this i don't have to be someone else i don't have to try to do other things when
16:30you just shed
16:31that persona of what you thought you had to be and just you know what the funny thing is i
16:37still feel
16:37like this girl even when i'm not made up you know what i mean it's not makeup is more i
16:44mean glow up is
16:45more than makeup and all that every morning i look ragged let's be clear you know what i'm saying
16:50it's not about the outer appearance like literally that moment for me was when i left my job when i
16:57started living my dreams when i started being like you know what none of this matters i'm about to take
17:02every opportunity that comes my way without fear you know jumping out there and doing something that
17:08you're afraid to do because nobody else believes this possible is a glow up for me and then and then
17:17being successful at what other people didn't see for you is even more yeah i think glow up for me
17:23so
17:24it was the moment where i left my job it was rocky along the way but i said i'm still
17:29doing this
17:30you know and time still happen today but at the end of the day i'm still here and i'm flourishing
17:37i'm
17:37thriving i'm that girl come on come on i'm i'm still here here here yeah come on yeah come on
17:51yes
17:52i think what you're saying is so important when we talk about like no like i was it i am
17:57it i will
17:57be it right at any moment and i think for a lot of us it comes with saying no to
18:02something right like
18:03you said like you left your job right you had to release some things and i think when we were
18:08talking about this we had to talk about how you got to release some things to be your best you
18:12you
18:13do so i want to talk a little bit about that my you were talking a little bit about releasing
18:16some
18:16things whether it's relationships work whoever friendships sometimes you got to release that to be
18:23your best self that you already know you are exactly so for me um i don't intentionally release
18:28anybody i just glow up and they fall off so it is what it is so um i'm never intentionally
18:36being
18:36like i can't do you unless you're just that very toxic person that i just cannot stand um i'm just
18:41glowing up and as i do that people just are like oh you changed i'm in my 20s i'm supposed
18:46to babe yeah
18:47i'm not stagnant i'm sorry that you are i mean hope the next bus comes around for you but it's
18:52not this bus
18:53okay so that was very prominent with my relationship with my dad i know a lot of children have issues
18:57with their father but he's the type of man who he would do something and he would try to really
19:01brush it under the rug and like wait a month then be like hey baby girl i'm like you're not
19:06safe
19:07this is not this is not for you not even your daddy not everybody everybody so i had to make
19:14i had to
19:14put an ultimatum to him i said daddy i love you i will always love you but at the end
19:18of the day
19:18i feel like if you don't start checking yourself we're done i don't i will never speak to you again
19:23because i had to protect myself because people coming in and out of your life is not it's not
19:28good for you especially when they're not healthy for you so he's straightened up you got his act right
19:32you know how to he got act right now so you know i love him i will always love him
19:37and we i fucks with
19:38him now i mean my every time you talk i'm like you are in theory younger than me you know
19:4625 25
19:47do not fact check that in theory maya is younger than me but you're so mature and you've got this
19:53incredible wisdom and it takes both of those qualities to be able to see your parents as adults
20:01as human beings yeah instead of as your parents right yeah somebody who you can take care of them
20:07and not them taking care of you so at what point did you realize like i'm fed up and i'm
20:13the adult now
20:13yeah yeah i was sick and tired i was sick and tired of being sick and tired of being sick
20:17and
20:18tired i had to have a conversation with myself and say is this the roller coaster that you want for
20:21yourself one and two do you want unhealthy relationships with men that are not your father
20:25no i don't want either one of those things so i had to make a decision for myself i chose
20:29me
20:29and he chose me too thankfully for him you know what i'm saying so i just honestly feel like that's
20:35that's the motive in any relationship you're gonna have to really choose yourself and i feel like you
20:41know is there a point for you lala in any relationship with mother father man with your
20:47man or whatever that you just were sick and tired and you had to get up and go all the
20:52time um honestly
20:55family members everything like that dating it's one of those things where we always tend to put other
21:02people first especially if you're a good person you know but what i've realized that when you don't put
21:08yourself first you can't truly help other people so oftentimes me cutting them off is actually helping
21:15them you know because i'm eventually you know when you get your stuff together because i cut you off
21:20i'm going to come back and see if you ready to get back on a train to you know success
21:26because that's
21:27where i'm going you know and so with that i always cut people off including friends or ex-boyfriends
21:35boyfriend like to protect my peace and keep me going to where i'm going because you ain't going
21:39to knock me off my block while you know that's okay so are we letting people get back on the
21:45train
21:45no are we unblocking because honey ex-boyfriends no i don't i don't agree with that no especially
21:54because you know we're serial breakuppers how many times we done get back with a dude multiple times if
22:00you done broke up with him more than twice it's done okay so no they can't get back on the
22:05train
22:06for parents i have a soft spot absolutely thank you for bringing me into this world but i will give
22:11you a six month suspension okay that's not probation listen yeah yeah i love it i love it no i
22:20think that's
22:20very fair though i mean with parents i think it's it's one of those things again like you said where
22:24it's
22:24either back and forth and you feel like you're the child or the parent hopefully you feel like the child
22:29but a lot of times you feel like the parent in relationships a lot of times you feel like the
22:33parent too yeah and you feel like you have to do a lot of like mothering and they got a
22:41lot of maturing
22:42to do when you're just trying to live your life so i want to talk a little bit about romantic
22:46blow-ups
22:47and why everyone has an opinion on what we do as black women with our bodies because it's no one
22:53else's
22:53choice but awkward yeah i want to make that very clear so let's talk a little bit about what we're
22:59doing with our body yaddy yaddy in life and where are we going with them come on my give us
23:05some tea
23:05hey it's me again no but for me um i feel like you think you know you this is what
23:12i want this is
23:13what i want and then you kind of get into it it's like this ain't what i want at all
23:17so this is not
23:20it he's not the one so like yeah i know i just you send a text i'm just playing you
23:27better than me
23:29you ghosting people chelsea huh you ghosting them huh oh that's right what yeah yeah no i keep it real
23:38from the jump like i'm to be honest i'm for the street so she's my roster i'm not kidding you
23:45i
23:45have like a full roster and so as long as we keep it 100 with me i'll keep 100 with
23:50you yeah that's it
23:51yeah but people try to dim the light on the whole face i just really consider it finding myself i'm
23:57dating a lot of people to see what i like if he ain't it i'm gonna throw him back to
24:00the streets and
24:00i'm gonna read another one in i mean that just is kind of what that is and i honestly feel
24:05like
24:05please don't shit on the whole face because none of us need that i think everybody should experience
24:09a whole phase yeah because to me if you don't like next thing you know you might find yourself
24:15getting bored and then you're wondering you know like well what if i would have dated other people
24:21you know so i think the more that you date you ain't got to have sex with everybody thank you
24:26you
24:26know what i'm saying but if you do decide to get it in you know what i'm saying but at
24:30the end of the
24:31day i feel like a whole phase is necessary before you all the way locked in boom yeah like as
24:36the
24:37great salsa santana said it's just meet and greeting you know that's what we're doing just meeting and
24:41greeting yes prophet santana yes he does speak the truth yeah i actually had a whole phase a couple
24:49years ago i survived it but it taught me i'm not for the streets let me tell you some of
24:54us were meant
24:55to love one person i'm so i can't entertain multiple men at once what's your favorite color
25:00how many siblings you got again i don't know i don't know i don't know right but it taught me
25:06a lot
25:06of things it taught me to take accountability for my actions i think that a lot of times we date
25:10as people everyone has a victim mentality right oh i broke up with this man because he's trash
25:15he did this and this and that he probably is trash 95 percent of the time they're trash right
25:19whatever but five percent of the time what did you do what was your role in the situation
25:23for me i felt like i'm one of those people like if you know me i don't have to tell
25:27you you know
25:27what it is you know what type of person i am i don't have to tell you when i'm in
25:30a bad mood you
25:31should be able to read me you know my vibe and a lot of these men can't read right so
25:36they'll just
25:36be looking at you like what's going on like are you okay yeah some of them some of them but
25:44they can't
25:44really read your emotions and so i learned that in the past i would just be like oh this person
25:48doesn't
25:48get me i'm done with it right but i wouldn't tell them how i felt and so through being on
25:52the
25:53streets i had to communicate a lot hey if you want to go on a date let's go on a
25:56date hey i don't do
25:58this but i do do that blah blah blah blah blah blah and so on so forth right and i
26:01think that as women
26:02as people who are dating regardless of who you're dating you need to be clear about your expectations
26:07and if it doesn't work out it doesn't work out but it's on you if you don't tell them what
26:12time
26:12it is i think communication is super important yeah you know a lot of times we lack communication we're
26:17desensitized to communication because we so used to dming people you know instead of having real
26:23conversations men will literally see you in person and then slide in your dm you look good today
26:30and it's like well dang you know even when it comes to having conversation i be on the phone and
26:36it's like
26:37uh so what was your day would you eat like honey what else you got to talk about let's talk
26:45about
26:45something productive you know so yeah it's look what you and then when i don't like it i'll tell
26:51a dude look honey i'm tired of carrying this conversation on my back i'm getting weak so i'm
26:56gonna have to go ahead and let this go you know i mean i think that's wow my cards agreed
27:01with you too
27:01i think that's fair and i think that's clear not everyone has that emotional maturity and is ready
27:07to step outside and maybe not get the answer they want because people don't have that kind of energy
27:14like the same energy that's up here all right same energy that's out here okay okay so all right
27:18we have reached my favorite part of this podcast called the don't at me all right now if y'all
27:24are
27:24not clear this is the part of the conversation where we really tie a bow on it we really want
27:31to make
27:31sure y'all understand the energy of the moment and in case the title wasn't clear you can't add us
27:37okay nothing nunca non nine no heart emoji do it all right and we're going to turn this over to
27:47y'all
27:47i want to hear one or two of y'all's don't at me's okay before we get out of here
27:52now does any brave
27:54soul i see you orange you was not in okay okay it's the queen of advice so we're gonna get
28:08her
28:08don't at me and she's gonna just give us a little energy you got questions that don't at me things
28:13that don't make sense we gonna make it make sense for you boo come on um i know i'm bald
28:17so don't
28:19look at this and we love it okay so don't at me but um can we stop asking what lace
28:39because i don't
28:39need gps it's right there oh okay it's it's literally the dots okay thank you okay wow wow
28:50she's saying that she could see the screen doors but you can follow the handle no i'm kidding she's
28:55right and she should say it hello right there what you said so basically don't ask what lace if you
29:01could see the screen door yeah yeah all right good thing i ain't got a lace on today
29:10not injecting our hair i was like what like okay yeah we know that's your real hair hi ladies oh
29:20this mic is hot i like that yeah okay um so i i see on the board behind you when
29:26did you feel like you
29:27shed your baggage to glow up yeah well sometimes the baggage will shed you for the better now can i
29:35testify real quick can i testify real quick can i get a collection plate so right so i'm from south
29:41florida i'm from miami florida 305 all the way live and um i'm one of those crazy individuals i love
29:48to
29:49do improv comedy that is one of my things that bring me joy and i was a part of a
29:54team that was really one
29:55of the like one percent all black improv teams and i played with uh um i was on a team
30:06with another
30:07woman who basically wasn't feeling my shine come to find out later and on some non non-improv related
30:16stuff got mad at some things that i did for me for my birthday and basically booted me out of
30:22the group
30:22oh okay so fast forward i had to take time to heal i took the quarantine to heal and everything
30:30like
30:30that fast forward i'm here now she's still down there i'm over here i'm getting back into my improv bag
30:39and my community has grown tenfold just by shining the way god meant for me too
30:49and baby there does not have to be one spotlight on the stage yes i exude that main character energy
30:59but honey the thing about improv is that you are always supporting your team it's never really about
31:05you it's about the team and when your team's not looking out for you honey let that shed be okay
31:13let that be okay let let let them wear your snake skin you don't need it anymore
31:21let them wear it so yeah sometimes the baggage will shed you and you will be blessed for it
31:26boom and don't at me yeah thank you thank you thank you amazing y'all all right all right you
31:36got you
31:36got a quick one quick one quick one it'll be short hi guys i'm yeah hey friend okay um since

32:09stick
32:10together and i feel like i respect your art but you're gonna respect my time yeah so if you're late
32:17you owe me 20 dollars yeah yeah and i mean that wholeheartedly yeah black women should be lifting
32:27each other up and i understand that the brightness on your videos is non-existent
32:34but i appreciate your artistry and you should appreciate us
32:41what are you there's some girls that i respect them and they can do that because they do good
32:47hair but if fair it's like gps if you can see the dots what are we paying you for and
32:54if it lifts
32:54two days later then why did i get an install i got a suggestion for everybody to solve that okay
