00:00I really think that OnlyFans is like a crazy weird phenomenon of the 2020s that
00:04I will look back on and be very confused by.
00:07I want to talk to you about some of the themes in the show around sex work and power.
00:12Do you ever get tired of that being the first thing people go through?
00:15I do. I do get extremely tired of people asking me about sex work.
00:19One, it's because I actually wasn't a very successful sex worker.
00:23Two, it's because I barely spent any time in that industry at all, again, because I was not that successful.
00:29If you want to have a conversation about porn, why do you have me on?
00:33There's so many actual porn stars that are doing it today that you could just interview instead.
00:39I don't understand why people think that I'm going to be an expert in it
00:44when I actually was super unsuccessful in it and I wasn't popular in the industry at all until I was
00:51on Euphoria.
00:52Yeah, and you're like, I don't need to be a spokesperson for the entire industry.
00:55Yes, exactly. And that's just something that really does become like,
00:58holy shit. Like when I was actively working as a porn star, not a single person interviewed me.
01:04In episode two, we see Maddie has to give up her client because of the stigma that was attached to
01:10OnlyFans.
01:11But she's kind of saying like, no, like the norms are changing. There's like this transition.
01:16Do you feel like that's true?
01:18It's true that OnlyFans and like sex work has become more normalized, but it's literally only because of capitalism and
01:27the economy getting worse. It has nothing to do with like empowerment or power or anything.
01:34What it actually 100% has to do with is just the fact that we live under capitalism and the
01:40economy is horrible.
01:41That's like why people are turning to it.
01:43I mean, Cassie says OnlyFans means that she would be the one in charge. Do you think that that's true?
01:50If you look like Cassie, I guess.
01:53People have like the weirdest like ideas and like fantasies of sex work, like being like so
02:04empowering. And like, we've seen all these news stories where they're like, oh, OnlyFans model makes
02:09700 billion dollars in a month. And everyone's like, whoa, I literally just think that these things are a bit
02:18of smoke and mirrors. Actually, it's really like hard to say if it would give her any power.
02:25I don't know. I mean, yes, like obviously Cassie's extremely attractive, so it probably would lead to her making a
02:31lot of money.
02:32I guess for me, it just feels crazy as fuck to like see somebody living like Cassie turn to sex
02:43work, you know, and just be like, holy shit, like that's where we're at in society.
02:47I guess that's like a theme of the show that we see, right, is like who is the one who
02:51actually is holding the power.
02:53Yeah, yeah. I really think that OnlyFans is like a crazy weird phenomenon of the 2020s that I will look
03:00back on and be very confused by.
