00:01Standing in for stars on the big screen, stunt women train hard to pull up the moves that make movie
00:07magic.
00:07Requiring enormous strength from head to toe, stunt women must know how to jump, dive, fall and fight in any
00:13scenario.
00:14Defying fear and facing harrowing challenges, they are the true badasses of the entertainment industry.
00:27Sydney, you are one of the coolest women I know. I mean, you're a stunt woman. How did you even
00:31get into this?
00:32I wanted to do stunts since I was a little kid and I took up gymnastics. I met some people
00:37that lived down here in Los Angeles.
00:39And they were like, hey, you know, like if you wanted to get into it, like you just got to
00:42move down here.
00:43Then the next week they had gotten me my first job.
00:45That's so awesome.
00:51So we're going to go over how to get over some of these obstacles, like a real chase scene.
00:55The first vault that we're going to do is called safety vault. One hand on and the opposite foot.
01:00Yes! The next one I want to teach you is the speed vault.
01:03So a speed vault is like the safety vault, only you're just not going to touch your feet this time.
01:07Yeah.
01:08How many women are in stunts?
01:09There's quite a few, you know, like there's definitely more men in the business,
01:13but every year there gets to be more and more that want to get into it and all that. I
01:16just think that's great.
01:19We're actually going to need to use the wall right there. So get your foot on the wall like this.
01:24Oh my God.
01:25Basically, you're just taking a step up the wall, okay?
01:28Ready to go?
01:31Yes!
01:32Okay, so now we're going to come back down and we're going to try and link them all together.
01:35Do you think you could do that?
01:36Wow.
01:37Okay.
01:37Push is going to look like this.
01:45Okay.
01:45Come on, Allison. You can do it.
01:48All right.
01:48Good.
01:50There we go.
01:52Oh my gosh.
01:52First try.
01:54Allison, you want me to do anything?
02:02This is going to prepare you for your car slide that you're going to do today.
02:05I'm doing a car slide.
02:06You're doing a car slide.
02:07Okay.
02:07All you're going to do is you're going to run up.
02:09You're going to choose a leg.
02:10You're going to get it up in front of you.
02:12You're going to aim for the middle of the block here.
02:13And you're just going to slide across on your butt.
02:17Oh, that's pretty good.
02:18A lot of times when we're doing chase scenes, you know, I always have bad guys running and
02:22jumping over my car.
02:23So I thought it would be fun to do that with you today.
02:25All right.
02:25Let's go.
02:26Let's do this.
02:26Yes, we've got this.
02:27It's the same thing that we did before.
02:29You're going to run, you're going to lift up that left leg, and you're going to get your butt onto
02:32the car and you're just going to look forward and just slide.
02:35Yeah.
02:36Yeah.
02:37Woo!
02:37Oh my God.
02:39Okay.
02:39I know you can do the same thing.
02:45Yeah.
02:52And the next thing we're going to be doing is high falls.
02:55We're going to be starting from up there, and you're just going to jump into this foam
02:58pit here.
02:59I'm terrified.
03:01I'm not going to lie.
03:01Okay.
03:03How much of this is mental versus physical?
03:06A lot of it is mental.
03:07There's like some things that I'll do where I'm going out, I'm like, I don't know how I'm
03:10going to do this.
03:11Once they call action, you're just like a whole different person.
03:14You just do the stunt, you get it over with, and then you're just like, wow, like I want
03:17to do it again.
03:20I think you can definitely do this.
03:22You just have to break past that mental barrier.
03:24I know you're scared right now.
03:25This is where the mental part comes from.
03:26Yeah.
03:27So just look at me, keep your eyes on me, and do that, okay?
03:29Okay.
03:34You've come really far today, and now I'm going to make you do something that you might not
03:38want to do.
03:39This is going to be a roof gap, or a simulated roof gap.
03:41So the high fall was just an appetizer?
03:44Yes, exactly.
03:44This is like the main event here.
03:46Okay.
03:47All you're going to do is you're going to take a step, you're going to drive that knee
03:49up, you're going to jump, you're going to aim for that, you're going to put your feet down
03:52and touch your hands, and you're just going to run off.
03:54What do you think?
03:56I'm really, really nervous, but I want to try it.
04:03Today was an incredible experience.
04:06I knew that stunts was of course very, very physical, but I didn't realize until today
04:11the amount of mental strength it requires.
04:16Making myself do just basic stunts were so challenging, but it was so rewarding.
04:22It was so invigorating, and now I totally get the adrenaline rush and the desire to keep
04:28doing it again and again.
