00:00Being able to take calculated risk is kind of what motivates and drives you to experience more.
00:05Calculated risk is a powerful tool that you can bring with you in everything that you do.
00:10Yeah, it feels a little bit stronger up here, kind of like a head crosswind.
00:15It just feels like it's about 5 miles per hour, but it's a little bit gusty,
00:18so maybe I'll be able to get a lull so that I can get this off.
00:22Yeah, there's a bit of a crosswind over here.
00:24You know, if it's windy where you're at, obviously, you don't need to jump.
00:28Definitely your call.
00:36I'm Claire Marie, and I'm a professional base jumper.
00:39I've been base jumping for almost 11 years now.
00:42There are so many different aspects to base jumping that I love so much,
00:45but one of the biggest would be right after your feet leave the edge, you're completely calm.
00:50There's no nerves. You're not thinking about anything else.
00:53It's just you're completely 100% in the moment, and it's the most peaceful thing I've ever experienced.
01:00But as you start falling faster and faster, you start hearing the wind in your ears,
01:04and the faster you fall, the louder it becomes.
01:12But even that doesn't take away from how peaceful it is.
01:15I just jumped off that.
01:18I've learned a lot of lessons through base jumping that transfer really well over into normal day-to-day life.
01:24I think one of the biggest lessons is to trust yourself and to make sure that you're educated enough to
01:29make the right judgment call for yourself.
01:31Being able to do something dangerous but calculate the risk and decide for yourself that you feel comfortable doing it
01:39is massively empowering.
01:41Woo!
01:42Yeah, girl!
01:44Yeah!
01:44Oh, you're so rad!
01:47Oh, that was so much fun!
01:49Oh, yeah!
01:50Being outdoors and being in nature is one of those things that just kind of energizes you.
01:54You get to see so much more than you would if you're at home, on your computer, watching TV.
01:59You know, there's so much that we can explore.
02:01There's so much that we can see.
02:03And being in nature can really challenge you.
02:06And anytime you're challenged, you're growing.
02:08One thing about base jumping is the more effort and energy you put into it,
02:15whether it's hiking to an exit point or doing more research or being super meticulous about what you're doing,
02:23the more you put into it, the more you get out of it.
02:25It's kind of like anything in life, really, whether it's your job or your relationship,
02:30the more effort and energy you put in, the more you get out of it, the better it is.
02:35There are a lot of obstacles that you face when you're following your dreams,
02:39whether it's someone else telling you that you can't do something,
02:42it's your family trying to convince you otherwise.
02:44You know, there are a lot of factors that try to limit you.
02:47But ultimately, it's about following your passion, finding what your dreams are,
02:51and really charging for it and going for it.
02:54You know, as soon as I realized that, I was able to kind of let go and kind of just
02:57do my thing.
03:00There are a lot of people that live inside of their comfort zone,
03:04and I feel like once you push yourself out of your comfort zone,
03:08you learn all kinds of new things about yourself,
03:10whether it's what you're capable of, what you like, what you don't like.
03:15I think that people are capable of a whole lot more than they think is possible.
03:20It's one of my goals to motivate and inspire other people to find their dreams
03:24and to follow them and to live passionately.
03:27And so if I can just impact one or two people, then I've done my job.
