01:11The Government of Venezuela released an updated official report detailing the figures on the damage, losses and measures taken after
01:17the earthquakes that struck on June 24.
01:19According to the official report released on July 22, 2026, the death toll has risen to 5,398, while the
01:27number of injured remains at 16,740.
01:31Authorities also reported that 6,462 people have been rescued and that 128,324 families have received assistance.
01:41And 23,335 people are in temporary camps, while 17,907 families have lost their homes.
01:50In addition, 156 buildings have been damaged and 190 have collapsed.
01:55We believe efforts have included the distribution of 10,964,199 tons of food and 44,557,208 liters of
02:06water.
02:07Well, 44,298 people have received medical treatment.
02:13A total of 2,278 international rescue workers are assisting the country alongside 30,189 deployed personnel and 31,745
02:23volunteers.
02:24Finally, authorities also reported the establishment of 107 temporary camps and the recording of 1,463 aftershocks.
02:43On Wednesday, Venezuela's Acting President, El Cid Rodriguez, met with the United Nations representatives to discuss key points of the
02:50Earthquake Recovery Plan.
02:51The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Venezuela, Gianluca Rampolla, reported that the international body is working in full coordination with
02:58Venezuelan state institutions to provide a high-level technical response.
03:02In this scenario, Acting President Rodriguez thanked the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Venezuela and the multilateral organizations represented for
03:11the efforts and cooperations in contributing to the humanitarian aid plan and providing support to those affected by the June
03:1824 earthquakes.
03:27The Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace of Venezuela, Diostado Cabello, stated that the national government is continuing its efforts
03:34to recover the bodies of the victims of the double earthquake.
03:45We are launching an initiative to ensure that every family member who has been waiting for their missing relative can
03:52be reunited with them.
03:53And, of course, here comes the campaign. Here comes the campaign against using machines. Don't bring in the machines now

05:29Criminal networks are once again operating with total freedom in Honduras,
05:33and the problem of extortion has returned. Public transport operators say that in some neighborhoods they have to pay up
05:41to seven different criminal groups or else risk their lives.
05:44Gerardo Torres-Elaya reports from Tegucigal, Honduras.
05:51A public bus driver in Honduras may end up paying as much as 7,000 lempiras a week, about $300,
05:58in extortion fees to a criminal network.
06:00We spoke with a driver with over 20 years of experience who explained how the situation is becoming increasingly dangerous
06:07by the day.
06:08For security reasons, we have concealed his identity.
06:11At a bus terminal in one part of the capital, a fare collector, a young man was killed.
06:23He fell inside the bus after being shot, a victim of extortion.
06:32Along the route where we work, we have seen many cases of workers being murdered.
06:38GEN.
06:45Whether they were drivers, fare collectors or assistants.
06:54We have always paid the extortion money during the time I have been in this line of work, and I
06:59have been doing this for over 28 years.
07:04There have been situations where we have had to pay up to seven different groups, each requiring a weekly fee.
07:10The total could range from 3,000 to 7,000 lempiras a week.
07:21The current government decided to disband the anti-extortion unit, which was specifically tasked with confronting the gangs and criminal
07:29syndicates involved in extortion.
07:31Authorities promised to create a new unit.
07:33But unfortunately, six months into the administration, there are no visible results.
07:38And the situation appears to be spiraling out of control.
07:41This is part of the broader effort to build up criminal investigation capabilities.
07:50The state of Honduras is proposing the creation of a national anti-crime agency, specifically one targeting extortion and terrorist
07:59organizations.
08:13This new entity is a specialized division tasked with pursuing groups dedicated to extortion, as well as those now classified
08:22as terrorist organizations.
08:24These new agencies operate under the coordination of the National Defense Council.
08:36Faced with such an adverse situation, some transport workers have decided to pay extortion, resign to their fate, in order
08:44to save their lives,
08:45while others have been forced to stop working because it is impossible to make a living when the majority of
08:52their income goes toward paying criminal organizations.
08:59They rake in billions of lempiras every week.
09:02Several transport companies have pulled out because of this.
09:05These are the risks involved.
09:10We are afraid, personally.
09:15I tell the guys working with me never to skip those payments.
09:18Their lives are worth far more than the 100 or 200 lempiras they might otherwise take home.
09:28In just a few months, extortion has become unbearable, and insecurity is on the rise.
09:33Meanwhile, the population that does not own a car, the vast majority, has been left without options following the ban
09:40on ride-hailing apps.
09:42People are exposed to various criminal groups that use violence to ensure timely weekly payments.
09:48The authorities in action is both inexplicable and suspicious.

10:27The tariff measure was formalized by the Office of the US Trade Representative,
10:31seeing alleged Brazilian policies harmful to US companies.
10:34The products affected by Trump's tariffs have not been officially published,
10:38which exacerbates the situation following the first 50% tax increase in July 2025.
10:44These tariffs allowed the US government to investigate foreign practices deemed allegedly unfair in order to maintain its trade measures.
10:56The Brazilian Workers Party launched the national campaign Brazil Will Not Give Up,
11:01with the goal of defending sovereignty in the face of new US tariff impositions.
11:05The campaign seeks to broaden the debate on the impact of tariff measures on the Brazilian economy
11:10and to identify measures to protect jobs and domestic industries.
11:14The party asserts that the attacks on the Brazilian economy were provoked by the Bolsonaro family
11:19and accuses other political actors of being willing to put their personal interests ahead of those of the people.
11:34Social and political organizations in Paraguay launched a campaign calling on the government
11:39to consider the country's position in the most recent United Nations vote related to Cuba.
11:45The promoters of the initiative noted that since the return to democracy in 1989,
11:50Paraguay had consistently supported General Assembly resolutions rejecting the US blockade against the Caribbean island,
11:57a position that changed in the most recent vote where Paraguay joined a small minority of nations opposing the measure.
12:05In this regard, participants in the campaign argued that President Santiago Peña's administration
12:10is responsible for the change in the nation's historic position and announced that they will deliver a letter to the
12:16President
12:17and collect signatures to call on the country to return to its previous position.
12:37Chebron has asked a U.S. Federal Court to order Ecuador to pay compensation of approximately $224 million
12:44as part of a legal dispute related to claims of environmental damage in the Amazon.
12:50The case involves Ecuadorian communities that alleged harm linked to the operations of Texaco Petroleum,
12:57a company that was later acquired by Chevron in 2011.
13:01A court in Ecuador issued a multi-million dollar judgment against the company,
13:06but the decision was overturned years later by a U.S. court.
13:09Chevron argues that the Ecuadorian judgment was based on irregularities
13:13and is seeking enforcement of an international arbitration awarded that awarded compensation in its favor in addition to the payment
13:21of interest.
13:23The Ecuadorian government will have the opportunity to respond before the court before a ruling is issued.
13:29In the meantime, the case remains under review within the international legal processes.
13:40Southern Europe is facing a new wave of destructive wildfires as extreme heat and strong winds continue to fuel fast
13:48moving flames across Italy, France and Spain.
13:51In Sicily, where temperatures have claimed above 40 degrees Celsius, hundreds of residents and more than 20 patients from a
13:59medical clinic were evacuated as firefighters battled multiple places.
14:04In this context, Italy's Interior Minister confirmed that one firefighter lost his life while responding to the fires.
14:10Meanwhile, in southern France, thousands of hectares have already burned, forcing hundreds of people from their homes and campsites.
14:18In central Spain, new wildfires near Toledo trigger evacuations in several communities as emergency crews continue fighting another massive place
14:27north of Madrid that has already scorched 32,000 hectares.
14:35The wildfire emergency is also intensifying in France and Spain.
14:39French authorities say the fires have burned more than 3,500 hectares in the southwest and along the Mediterranean coast.
14:46Around 700 residents were evacuated from the town of La Porche, while another 3,500 people were relocated from a
14:54nearby campground as a precaution.
14:57In Spain, a new wildfire near Toledo prompted evacuations in several communities around Madrid and forced one town into lockdown.
15:09So they actually asked us to pack a bag. There was no evacuation order at the time, but to pack
15:14a bag and, if necessary, should the situation change and they came to warn us all to evacuate, to do

17:43risk their lives on this journey.

18:24health authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.
18:27In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Ministry of Health reported nearly 2,500 confirmed Ebola cases, including 999
18:35deaths as of Monday, while Uganda has also recorded 20 confirmed cases with two fatalities reported.
18:42The outbreak caused by the Bundibukyu virus was declared on May 15 in Ituri province in eastern Congo.
18:49Since then, it has spread to several other provinces, including North Kibu, South Kibu, Hotel and Tishobo.
18:55Health authorities continue monitoring the situation as efforts remain focused on responding to the outbreak and limiting further transmission.
19:23Iran and Iraq can strengthen relations through a high-level talks aimed at boosting economic and political ties following the
