For decades, scent remained computing's final analog frontier. Now Osmo has done what many thought impossible: digitized smell.

By training AI to decode the relationship between molecular structure and human perception, the New Jersey startup built the world's first olfactory intelligence platform, turning scent into searchable, programmable data.

00:00Dogs have been trained, who have sharper senses of smell than we do, to detect COVID, cancer, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's.
00:07And so every one of those diseases has a signature.
00:11For Osmo, fragrance is the commercial work paying for that longer-term research.
00:16And the reason is, is like, well, we have to fund ourselves, right, in order to do that.
00:21And the act of making fragrances actually generates data and understanding,
00:24which is strengthening our platform to make even more ambitious bets in the future.
00:30For Alex, that motivation is personal.
00:33His father died of brain cancer, a condition that some evidence suggests has a unique scent.
00:38What we need to uncover is perhaps those are also the same molecules in someone who has brain cancer, like
00:44my father had.
00:44If you have a disease that's developing, there's going to be something that's going to change about the scents that
00:50are leaving your body.
00:51And nobody knows the details of what that is, but we know that dogs can detect it.
00:57What Osmo is, is an organization, a group of people designed to unravel these mysteries, kind of one by one,
01:04in a way that is responsible and resilient and designed to last over time.
