00:00What's going on, everybody?
00:01Welcome back to another video.
00:02It is no surprise that the job market sucks in 2025
00:05and people are not happy about it.
00:07I myself have made posts and video about it,
00:09but it can be tiring just listening to me on these topics.
00:12Let's see what you guys have to say about it.
00:15Okay, this one says entry level.
00:17Five to eight years of experience.
00:21Requires a master's degree.
00:23This is Burger King.
00:25Okay, bet, janitor for Microsoft.
00:27I can do this.
00:29Reference letter from Bill Gates himself.
00:33Oh, I'd love to be in New York, that's for sure.
00:36Five dollars an hour?
00:38Am I gonna live in a shoebox?
00:40You know what, I'm just gonna be a coach for summer camp.
00:42Must be LeBron.
00:45I think that pretty much sums it up.
00:46You're either getting paid way too little
00:48or the requirements are just insane.
00:50You have to have a master's degree or a PhD
00:52for just an entry level job.
00:54And honestly, that makes no sense.
00:56But when you're in a job market when there's a lot more demand
00:59than there are jobs available, it's gonna make it a lot more competitive.
01:02And so employers are feeling like they have a lot more power.
01:05They can pay you less and ask for more in this type of job market,
01:10which is not good for the end consumer,
01:11especially because prices and inflation are causing everything to be more expensive.
01:15I'm a recruiter and I work in the life sciences industry.
01:19I posted a position yesterday on LinkedIn for a data scientist role.
01:24The role is remote.
01:25It filters out anyone that doesn't live in the US,
01:28has knockout questions for people just to make sure that they meet the qualifications for the role.
01:32So active applications, I log in today, over 600.
01:38Taking a look through all of the applications, every single person is qualified.
01:43I have to go through and reject over 600 people for a job that these people probably will deserve
01:50because our market is crashing.
01:53I've never seen anything like this in the 11 years that I've been recruiting.
01:57The job market is awful right now.
01:59Yeah, that is not uncommon.
02:01If you go on LinkedIn right now and you go look at jobs and you filter remote jobs,
02:05anything remote, remote jobs within the past day or two that they've been posted,
02:09it's already going to have like 1500 applications for almost any role in tech.
02:14That means your chances of landing a job on that one are almost nothing.
02:17I have been telling people, especially if they do not have any experience,
02:20that they should not be applying to remote jobs at all.
02:23It's just way too many people.
02:24It's about 80% of the people want to work remote,
02:27which are only 20% of the jobs.
02:29A lot of jobs are going back in person.
02:31They're wanting to ensure that they're getting their return on investment
02:34and they feel like the best way to do that is have them in the office.
02:37So if you live in a metropolitan area and you're only applying to local jobs,
02:41you're going to have like a 100% better chance of landing a job than you do
02:45if you are only applying to remote jobs.
02:47Bro, I feel like you have a better chance of finding your dad that left 10 years ago,
02:52than to find a job in 2025.
02:55Like I swear, bro, nobody wants to hire me.
02:58It's like, why even say y'all are hiring in the first place
03:00if y'all won't even take a second to look at my application.
03:04Finding a job nowadays is like dating.
03:06You're out here shooting your shot by putting in all these applications
03:09only for these companies to end up ghosting you.
03:12Not even a simple email saying that I wasn't selected.
03:15These companies just go completely ghost on you.
03:17That is definitely one of the struggles right now in the job market.
03:21A lot of people are applying to hundreds, if not thousands of jobs,
03:24and they just aren't even receiving an email back.
03:26And I remember being in that exact place many years ago.
03:29It's extremely defeating.
03:31Like I was thinking, do I just give up?
03:33Do I just stop?
03:34Because it doesn't seem like anybody's interested in my resume or what I have to offer.
03:38And that can be a very tough place mentally to be.
03:41If you're like this guy and you're not getting any interviews at all,
03:44that probably means that your resume is not good.
03:47And I say that in the most loving way.
03:49If your resume is not optimized for the skills and the keywords and all these different things,
03:53then your chances of being filtered out are really high.
03:56So your resume never actually gets in front of a human where they can review it
03:59and see what you have to offer and see if you're a good fit for the position.
04:02Here's the real dirty truth about getting a job in data analytics in 2025.
04:06Five years ago, you could get a job as a data analyst just by knowing Excel and a little bit
04:10of SQL.
04:10And 10 years ago, you could get a job as a data analyst by just saying,
04:13I love data and being a real breathing human being getting into 2025.
04:17Everything has changed.
04:19There's been a huge increase in the number of data jobs available,
04:21but there's also been a huge influx of people trying to break into data.
04:25And it's not that data jobs aren't in demand anymore.
04:27It's just that the demand doesn't exactly match the supply.
04:30Companies are looking for senior level talent that really have some experience and can take
04:34their companies to the next level.
04:36But there's an influx of entry level talent hitting the job market.
04:39People are having to train harder, even volunteer as a data analyst and get experience
04:43to even get hired to get experience.
04:46And the best way to get experience as a data analyst is in your current role,
04:50whether you like it or not.
04:51All right.
04:52So I actually agree with almost everything that she was saying.
04:54Many years ago, it's a lot easier to get a job.
04:56There were tech job opening everywhere, but not enough people to actually fill them
05:00because not enough people were in data at that time.
05:02As tech companies and just the need for data professionals grew,
05:05we saw a huge influx of people into the data world.
05:08And now I would say we're a bit oversaturated.
05:11In 2025, most of that is because of a slowing economy.
05:14We have a lot of companies that are just freezing hiring or they're even laying off people.
05:18And I absolutely agree with what she said at the end.
05:20That's actually how I got my first job.
05:21I was working at a nonprofit in a completely different role.
05:24I knew nothing about data, but they had a data opening.
05:27And I just happened to know the people who had that role.
05:29And I was like, hey, I know how to use Excel.
05:31And I got that job.
05:32And that kickstarted my career and kind of love for data.
05:35And then I just progressed as the years went on.
05:38Data analysis is dead.
05:39There are no more jobs in data analysis.
05:41You're wasting your time if you're applying to data analytics jobs.
05:44These are all things I've heard over the past six months or even a year.
05:47And it may seem like that just because of how bad the economy is
05:49and how bad the labor market is.
05:51But I want all of you to remember that this is cyclical.
05:53There are market cycles.
05:55This happened in 2008.
05:56This happened during the dot-com bust.
05:58Happened all throughout history.
05:59To remember that what goes down will come back up.
06:02This also includes the demand for data analyst jobs.
06:04The Bureau of Labor still predicts that data analyst jobs will grow by over 20% to the year 2030.
06:10While it is hard to get a job during this time, focus on upskilling yourself.
06:14Learn new technologies.
06:15Learn new skills.
06:16Be ready for when the market recovers.
06:18This also happened during 2020 during the pandemic.
06:20I've had job offers literally rescinded during that time period.
06:23And quite literally less than a year later during 2021, the tech market was booming.
06:27Tech is very versatile.
06:28And I don't see the demand going down anytime soon.
06:31So focus on what you can't control.
06:33And don't worry about what you can't.
06:34Fall out for more content.
06:35I think that is something that a lot of people don't think about.
06:37That there are good markets and then there are bad markets.
06:40And we've seen that even since, you know, the big tech boom kind of in the mid 2000s.
06:44We've seen these big cycles of hiring and firing and hiring and firing.
06:48And right now, just in our current economic conditions with how the economy is going,
06:52it looks like we are in a not hiring season.
06:56That is not to say that it will not pick up later on though.
06:59And so if you are investing in yourself and you're taking courses and you're learning things
07:02and you're trying to, you know, shift over to the data side of things in your current role,
07:05because I guarantee you a lot of the job seekers that are out there right now who can't get back
07:09into data or can't break into data are going to go and they're going to do something else.
07:13And then in a few years when hiring picks back up and there's a huge demand for it,
07:17there aren't going to be as many people lined up for those jobs.
07:20That means if you are upscaling and you're learning AI and you're learning SQL and Excel
07:23and Power BI and AWS and Azure and all these skills,
07:26there are going to be jobs down the line when the economy picks back up.
07:29I don't know who needs to hear this, but you need to stop judging people who are on the job
07:33search.
07:33You need to stop saying things like everybody's hiring or the job market's not tough.
07:38Unemployment is at an all time low or even worse.
07:41Why don't you just go get a job at Home Depot or McDonald's?
07:44Guys, I've been in recruiting for coming up to a decade and I've never
07:47seen job seekers struggle as much as they are right now.
07:51In fact, other than the last few years, over the past decade, it has been a candidate market.
07:56Most companies I've worked with have struggled to find good quality candidates,
07:59but in this market, they are not having that issue.
08:02Especially for corporate positions, they are getting thousands of applicants.
08:06That's why we're seeing longer rounds of interviews.
08:08That's why we're seeing more assessments.
08:10That's why we're seeing companies be really, really picky.
08:12And it's why we're seeing lowball offers going out right now.
08:15I personally haven't heard anyone say that we're in a good market, except for the government.
08:19This guy's in Canada, but in the US, our government, all they say is unemployment is low.
08:25Inflation is being maintained.
08:27I'm like, okay, there's some issues with how you're collecting your data or what you're actually looking
08:32at because nobody is saying that the economy is good right now.
08:36What's good is the stock market.
08:37It's reaching all time highs, but that is not a reflection of the economy as a whole.
08:41And he is absolutely right.
08:42When companies feel like they have the power, they have thousands of applicants.
08:45They can have them do more assessments.
08:47They can have more rounds of interviews.
08:49They can offer them less money.
08:50And in the end, that is not good for the employee.
08:53Even if you get the job, you may be making the same or less than a previous job,
08:57but you're supposed to be grateful for it because they offer you a job in this economy.
09:01Overall, 2025 is shaping up to be not a great year for hiring just in general,
09:06but in tech, especially if you are out there and you are looking for a job,
09:09I don't recommend looking at remote jobs right now.
09:12They are so oversaturated.
09:13So many people from around the world, not just where you live from around the world can apply
09:18for them.
09:18So I would be looking at local jobs.
09:20I'd be optimizing my resume.
09:22I'd be reaching out to recruiters and I'd be doing this like it was a full-time job.
09:25I have been in your shoes before desperately trying to get a job and randomly applying to jobs.
09:29Just never panned out for me.
09:31I got very few interviews.
09:32And then if I did get interviews, it was for jobs that I didn't know anything about.
09:36I had no real chance of getting that job.
09:38I don't know why I got the interview, but in this job market, that is what I recommend.
09:42Let me know what you think down in the comments.
09:43I am very curious to hear what you think on the job market and just the economy as a whole.
09:47If you liked this video, be sure to like and subscribe and I will see you in the next one.
