00:00On June 20th, remand prisoner Faisal Abdullah lost his life.
00:04Nearly a month later, the family is still trying to establish the circumstances leading to his death.
00:10For instance, they were first informed that he had died in hospital, only to hear later that he had died
00:16on the way there.
00:17The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia, or Suhaqam, has called for an inquest into his death.
00:23Faisal, age 28, was charged on February 6th with three drug-related offenses and detained at the Seremban prison.
00:31He was reportedly sent to the hospital for a spinal injury on April 11th.
00:36His family claims he was sent back to prison on June 4th, despite being seriously ill and unable to move
00:42without assistance.
00:43During their final visit, they described him as weak, in pain, and visibly distressed.
00:48He died two days later, with the exact cause of death still pending for the medical tests.
00:54Lawyers and rights groups say the family's questions can only be properly addressed through a coroner's inquest.
01:01They are also renewing calls for stronger legal safeguards and greater accountability in cases involving death in custody.
