00:00Analysts have warned that delays in naming a new opposition leader to replace Hamzah Zainuddin could deepen tensions between PAS

00:10Mazlan Ali of University Technology Malaysia said the Islamic Party's reluctance to expedite the replacement suggested it had no issue

00:18with Hamzah continuing in the role.

00:20He added that the situation opens the door to prolonged disputes and could widen the rift between PAS and Bersatu

00:27within Perikatan Nasional.

00:28On Friday, Past President Abdelhadi Awang said a new opposition leader would be named before the Dewan Rakyat convenes for

00:36its next meeting in June.

00:38However, Bersatu President Muhyiddin Yassin said PN could not afford to wait until just before the Dewan Rakyat convenes in

00:46June to name a new opposition leader as this could tarnish its image.

00:51Meanwhile, analyst Chin Yiman said the situation could expose weaknesses within the coalition.

00:56He also said the situation created the impression that PAS was disregarding the sensitivities of its partner Bersatu.
